Nail art gems, when you want to bling it up a notch

You know, there are times when a girl has just got to add a little something to her mani. That’s why I love the convenience of nail art gems and addons. They take a pretty but plain manicure to pretty amazing in minutes. Today I wanted to share with you a cute collection of gems I received from Born Pretty store.

Pretty iridescent hearts for a mani with heart!

Pretty iridescent hearts for a mani with heart!

My method of application is pretty straight forward. For multiple small to medium gems, I first add a coat of topcoat then add on the pieces. I will have already determined where they should go. For singles as you see on the other fingers, I simply apply a dot of the clearcoat where the gem will go and using a pair of nail art tweezers apply the gem. Polish used for this pretty pink mani is called “My Heart Keeps Skipping” by Spell Polish, a wonderful indie brand you should check out! Heather’s polishes are amazing!

These nail art gems in two sizes of iridescent hearts are perfect for any romantic mani.

Born Pretty homerun! Edited, read to the end.

Born Pretty homerun!

I have to admit I was a bit nervous about ordering nail polish that I’d never heard of or seen reviews. But these beautiful shades had me intrigued and judging by the gorgeous green I swatched the other day, I felt this would be a winner too. I wasn’t wrong! I can’t be certain but I think the name of this brand is BK? It’s all in Chinese so I can’t say for sure. No color name, just 24. But its gorgeous! Not what I’d consider a full size bottle as you can see here.

The color and texture reminds me a lot of Zoya Pixie Dust in Arabella. No, not a total dupe, but close enough. It doesn’t have that micro silver glitter in it but it shines on its own just fine. The formula is perfection and dries fast. Girls, this is ONE coat! Now I want to order more! Ya like? UPDATE!
If you are considering doing blog reviews for this company, I want you to be aware of something. Communication with them has become increasingly spotty. They ask for product choices that you’d like to test and review. They send you items at their cost for this purpose. It started out fine from my first order. Fast forward to today, May 17, 2014, I have been volleying back and forth for 2 months. I sent them, at their request, items I’d like to review next. A full week later I get an email an item is out of stock. This is from their NEW ITEMS listing. So I go through the site, choose again, email. Wait two weeks for response. Etc, etc. Without giving you every ridiculous detail, either someone is “posing” as Alice, my previous contact, or she’s not making it into the office very often. I got an email this morning to give her a detailed choice of the last item replacement. I did. I never had this trouble ordering for myself with my own money or points. So, for you bloggers out there who are considering reviewing products for their blogger program, get ready for frustration. I want to be perfectly honest about this because I know that a lot of my readers are bloggers themselves. It’s not always easy dealing with a company in a foreign company. There are language and translation barriers. Culture differences at times and communication is most always somewhat delayed. But this is over the top. I’ve always been kind and understanding with BP store, but I think it’s time to convey the fact that this is bugging the tar out of me. I even chose a nail polish from their site for review, as the three polishes I bought before were nice. She emailed me two weeks later, they can’t send polish overseas. SAY WHAT?! Bogus. So there. This is off my chest and we will see where it goes from here. Have any of you had these issues with your contact? Let me know.

Born Pretty store haul!

Born Pretty store haul!

First I want to say thank you to a sweet lady, Sophie, aka MoonBeautyBar on YouTube, for my shopping spree at the born Pretty Store at http://www.bornprettystore.com.

This Singapore-based shop has a lot of really cool polishes, cosmetics, nail art accessories, jewelry and more. Just to get my feet wet, I picked out a few pretty polishes, some nail gems, and a few pieces of costume jewelry to use when I photograph for my blog.

I will be reviewing the polishes soon but just looking through the bottle, they are super pretty! The one on the right is actually a textured polish.

I probably wouldn’t wear the rings out much as they are really inexpensive and I’m thinking without a good layer of clear nail polish on those puppies, Id see some color turning. But I love the stretchy mock diamond bands. They fit on any finger! Thank you so much Sophie!

UPDATED NOTATION: I will have to say it took a full month to arrive after ordering, but I think it’s because the store was closed for week in celebration of a local holiday. Communication with the company is exceptional. But you will have to pull out your patience cap if you’re ordering from the USA. I have found they do not get in any hurry to ship your order and the “ships in 24 hours” promise is just a metaphor. :-/

Update if you’re a blogger who is wanting to review for Born Pretty, my experience. This has no bearing on their products. Just my frustration with the program:
