Zoya MatteVelvet Winter/Holiday collection

Today I’ll be reviewing the new (and available now) Zoya MatteVelvet Winter/Holiday 2015 collection. Let me preface by saying that these shades are completely different than the last collection…in case you were wondering! Zoya says, “The best-selling, MATTEVELVET finish returns this holiday season with six new shades. Each nail polish perfectly opaque, matte color with that extra special ZOYA MATTEVELVET fleck finish everyone loves.” Let’s take a look at what you’ll be wanting!

The Zoya MatteVelvet nail colors to slip into this Winter/Holiday season. From left: Aspen, Amal, Honor, Iris, Sue and Yves.
The Zoya MatteVelvet nail colors to slip into this Winter/Holiday season. From left: Aspen, Amal, Honor, Iris, Sue and Yves.

I’ll start with Aspen. She’s a clean, crisp, snowy white with the prettiest diamond pearl fleck. So hard to capture but believe me, she’s gorgeous!

Aspen, 2 coats, is described as: Aspen (ZP814) - a sparkling arctic white with a micronized diamond pearl fleck.
Aspen, 2 coats, is described as: Aspen (ZP814) – a sparkling artic white with a micronized diamond pearl fleck.

Next is Amal, a classic crimson ruby-red. So perfect for the holidays!

Amal, 2 coats, is described as: Amal (ZP816) – a classic crimson red with a ruby-red pearl fleck.

Honor is one of those essential greens for your holiday nailwear!

Honor, 2 coats, is described as: Honor (ZP819) - a true emerald-green with a tone on tone emerald pearl fleck.

Iris is the perfect name for this regal amethyst purple.

Iris, 2 coats, is described as: Iris (ZP817) - a deep amethyst with a fuchsia pearl fleck.
Iris, 2 coats, is described as: Iris (ZP817) – a deep amethyst with a fuchsia pearl fleck.

Sue, she’s a delicate champagne gold with oyster pearl fleck. The sheerest of the bunch, so 2-3 coats will do the trick.

Sue, 2 coats, is described as: Sue (ZP815) - a soft champagne gold with a multi-hued oyster shell pearl fleck.
Sue, 2 coats, is described as: Sue (ZP815) – a soft champagne gold with a multi-hued oyster shell pearl fleck.

And last is Yves. A deep sapphire blue.

Yves, 1-2 coats, is described as: Yves (ZP818) - a deep sapphire that's midway in between indigo and royal blue with a blue pearl fleck.
Yves, 1-2 coats, is described as: Yves (ZP818) – a deep sapphire that’s midway in between indigo and royal blue with a blue pearl fleck.

Conclusion: I always love the MatteVelvets and these shades for 2015 are all gorgeous. I can’t pick a favorite! But I DO love how Yves and Iris look on me. I want you to know they are all easy to apply and fairly quick drying. You can (although Zoya advises against it, see below) apply a gloss topcoat for a shiny look and it really brings out the hidden treasures of sparkle within. They suggest to apply a thin coat of the Matte Velvet Topcoat to retain the velvety appearance. They also suggest no base coat is needed. I will have to mention that I did leave Yves (the deep blue) on my bare nails overnight and experienced slight staining. That will go away, but I think a base coat on this one would have not allowed stains. Do not let this minor issue steer you away from experiencing lovely Yves!

NOTE: MATTEVELVET nail color by Zoya is not intended to be worn with a base coat, glossy top coat or speed dryer. Due to the unique matte formulation, color is not as long-wearing as traditional nail color. A completely clean, dry surface yields the best results for matte nail color wear. To extend wear, apply one coat of the Zoya Matte Velvet Topcoat over your favorite matte shades after polish is completely dry. AVAILABLE NOW!

First review for indie polish Mosi Mei!

I was recently contacted by Candace, founder and ceo of the indie polish maker, Mosi Mei in regards to reviewing their products. I am so thrilled she did! I was immediately delighted to see the square-shaped bottles, high-end packaging and attention to detail. The company has a lot to offer and that’s including nail treatments such as base coat, top coats and matte which I tested along with the first four shades. I have many more coming so stay tuned. For today I’ll be sharing some fall appropriate shades. I’m going to preface the first four shades with a rundown of the basic nail treatments. Let’s take a look!

Mosi Mei offers four nail treatments. From left: Base Coat, Shine topcoat, Glass topcoat and Matte topcoat.
Mosi Mei offers four nail treatments. From left: Base Coat, Shine topcoat, Glass topcoat and Matte topcoat.

Descriptions of the treatments:
SHINE – A high shine finish.
I am the perfect top coat to add strength and a chip resistant top layer to any nail hue. I dry quickly and help keep MOSI MEI nail hues on 2x3X longer. You only need to apply 1 coat of SHINE top coat and you are ready to go!
formula: créme finish: high shine type: clear

GLASS – A ultra high shine, gel-like wet look finish. I am the perfect top coat to any nail hue for a mega unique wet look effect. Formulated to be used with nail hues for a 2-3X longer lasting and chip resistant finish. Quick drying and lush looking. Look no further for your perfect top coat. Oh, and I do dry clear – don’t be fooled by my pink tone. You only need to apply 1 coat of GLASS top coat and you are ready to go!
formula: créme finish: ultra shine type: clear

BASE – A solid and grounding base for all nail hues. I am the perfect foundation to add strength and long-lasting staying power that help nail hues last 2-3X longer.
You only need to apply 1 coat of BASE base coat and you are ready for your favorite nail hue!
formula: créme finish: satin type: sheer

MATTE – A velvety luxe finish.
I am the perfect top coat to any nail hue if you want a matte, sleek and urban luxe look to your nail hue. You can apply me to metallic, satin, and gloss nail hues and I will change their appearance to a smooth velvet finish.  Formulated to be used with nail hues for a 2-3X longer lasting and chip resistant lifespan. Quick drying and sleek. You only need to apply 1 coat of MATTE top coat and you are ready to go!
formula: créme finish: matte type: sheer

Now for the fun part! Here are the first four shades in this series:

Perfect fall shades, from left: Feisty, Tough, Creative and Edgy.
Perfect fall shades, from left: Feisty, Tough, Creative and Edgy.

First up is Feisty. And this red wonder is so glossy, it’s blinding!

Feisty is a blood-red creme bordering on a crelly. Only needs two coats, highly pigmented and glides on like a dream. She's seriously breathtaking!

Next up is Creative. If you love purple with shimmer, this one’s for you!

Creative is the perfect name for this shimmery purple with it's satiny finish. Note: I wanted you to see how nicely the Matte topcoat works and it's on the pointer finger. The Shine topcoat is on the ring finger while the middle and pinky show you how it looks alone.

Want the perfect patent leather black? Here is Tough!

Last is Edgy… a shimmery brown.

Mosi Mei says, “Mosi Mei is whoever you are, wherever you are, never defined by one style and always inspired by color, we think everyone is a Mosi Mei!” And MM lacquers come in a wide range of formulas and finishes including cremes, glitters, satins, metallics and effects. They “…make what we love, with love…because passion and creation are what we live for, no exceptions.” MM says they exist “to share our love for color and everything it does for the spirit.” I can’t agree more. Imagine a black and white world with no texture and color. Indeed, that my dears, is why we paint!

Some cool facts Candace told me about Mosi Mei! “Although we are fairly new we have been featured on Hautelook, and in Wantable boxes for a few different months, and have some press coming out in the coming months as well. We will be in quite a few subscription boxes next year and are excited about some retail locations we will soon announce.” I see big things for this amazing company. Indies rock!

Conclusion: I am thoroughly pleased so far with not only the nail treatments, but the range of shades, finishes, packaging and high quality formulas. The cremes are glossy as heck, and the formulas are excellent in every way. Easy to apply and fast to medium drying, 1-2 coats. What more can you as for?!

Deborah Lippmann Roar Collection for Fall ’15 is wild!

The Deborah Lippmann Roar (Limited Edition) Collection: Fierce. Passionate. Empowered. I’ve had the great fortune to be working with the Deborah Lippmann PR group and today I’ll be sharing the Roar Collection for Fall 2015, available now. There are four polishes in the set, (also available individually), three cremes, Respect, She Wolf and Miss Independent, and one glitter, Can’t Be Tamed. I love the range in this collection…from earthy to glitzy, you can’t go wrong with any of them. Let’s take a peek!

Roar bottles, from top left: She Wolf and Can't Be Tamed. Bottom from left: Respect and Miss Independent.
Roar bottles, from top left: She Wolf and Can’t Be Tamed. Bottom from left: Respect and Miss Independent.

These four polishes are described as: “From the discerning She Wolf and the boardroom dominating Miss Independent, to the brick-red that demands Respect and glittery bronze that Can’t Be Tamed, this collection is for the bold woman who has something to say and won’t stop until she’s heard. Embrace your strong and expressive side with these new full coverage shades: She Wolf, Respect, Miss Independent, and Can’t Be Tamed, previewed at the Badgley Mischka A/W 2015 runway show.”

She Wolf isn’t as shy as you might think for a taupe natural polish. She’s glossy and so easy to apply, you’ll think your cheating!

She Wolf is a dreamy creamy 2-coat formula. A gorgeous taupe for fall!

Respect demands all eyes on her. Nothing beats a great red and this one has an edge.

You have to give props to Respect! It's a sexy red, but this 2-coater is highly pigmented and buttery smooth to apply.

Can’t Be Tamed is a wild one with its gold glitter and sweet honey base.

Can't Be Tamed is gorgeous with it's tiny gold and bits of holo glitters in a honey jelly base. One coat is great as a gradient topper (here over Miss Independent) or only 2 coats for a full coverage mani.

Conclusion: I’ve never been disappointed with any DL polish I’ve used. I highly recommend each one of these. The cremes are a joy to apply, highly pigmented and all 2-coaters. The glitter, Can’t Be Tamed may seem timid upon the first coat, but totally becomes opaque with the 2nd. Love all four of these!

SquareHue October box features the 1990s!

If you love monthly subscription boxes for cosmetics, and you want gorgeous, high quality polishes, AND, want to support a good cause while you’re at it…check out SquareHue! Phew, that was a long sentence. This month’s Decades Collection box features the 1990s and I couldn’t be more pleased with the color choices. It’s an extra treat that these all fit into the fall feel we’re all ready for. Let’s see what October box brought us!

SquareHue Decades Collection 1990 for October 2015 box. From left, Y2K 1999, a high gloss gun-metal shimmer. Desert Storm 1991, a high gloss sandy nude creme. And Vogue 1990, a high gloss ruby with golden shimmer.

Vogue 1990. Ahh, when Madonna took corsets where no woman had gone before. The Material Girl would be proud to wear this stunning polish!

Vogue is such a gorgeous jewel toned ruby-red with a faint metallic shimmer. It is super pigmented and super glossy!

Desert Storm 1991. It was a tense time all around the world while we watched the war nearly 24/7 on TV. Hats off to the brave men and women who wore the sand and brown camo and risked their lives for freedom. Whether you’re a patriot or a dove, the Gulf War was a difficult one to watch. I love that SquareHue included this one.

Desert Storm is a sandy nude creme, extremely glossy and very opaque. 2 coats.

Y2K 1999. Well, it literally took 1,000s of programmers punching all those 0s and 1s for years in anticipation of the possible Y2K computer glitch. The only thing I worried about was “will the ball drop”? LOL The planes kept flying, the cell phones still worked, and we still got email the next day. While Prince partied “Like it’s 1999” and we rang in the new century, the Y2K scare was just that, a scare.

A sampling of BOii Cosmetics “Girls Around the World” polishes

This is my first experience working with the indie cosmetic company, BOii Cosmetics (Made for girls, inspired by boys). Today I get to show you part of the newest collection, “Girls Around the World”. The collection showcases colors from around the world, and I have Indian Girl and Japanese Girl! The collection will be available for purchase this weekend. I might add, these two colors are perfect for fall. I can’t wait to see what the other ‘places’ look like! Let’s get started.

Here are two of the new collection from BOii Cosmetics, "Girls Around the World", Indian Girl and Japanese Girl. Shimmery beauties :-)

How they arrived, too cute!

I love the packaging of these "Girls"~ Cute little fobs on these shimmery bags!

Indie creator, Kumari Brathwaite, creates beautiful cosmetics as well. “Boii cosmetics was started in 2012 by two sisters living in New Jersey. We initially became interested in creating nail polishes as a hobby, but was inspired by our awesome mom to evolve our hobby into a business and a career. Since then we have transitioned from nail polishes to now offering eye shadows and lipsticks.” Products include: Nail polish, nail art, face, jewelry, candles, bath and body.

Here is Indian Girl!

Indian Girl from the Girls Around the World Collection is a shimmery metallic deep gold polish. Very opaque and nearly a 1-coater. Not to mention a perfect shade and finish for fall!

Here is Japanese Girl!

Japanese Girl is a deep cherry shimmer metallic. It reminds me of a bing cherry shade. Vampy and also very pigmented. 2 coats.

Conclusion: I found the polishes dried fairly quickly, even as well-pigmented they were. The formulas were easy to apply, no flooding or thickness issues. No strong odors and the colors are really beautiful. Indian Girl is unique for a gold, it’s warm and shimmery, and very little streaking for a metallic. Japanese Girl is a beautiful deep red/burgundy with tons of shimmer. I do have some shades like it, but no dupes that I know of! I highly recommend these!

First up is Estelle. A lovely Royal blue metallic. Fabulous formula and I love everything about it!

"Estelle can be best described as a blue on blue liquid metal with a blackened base."I used two easy coats.

Zoya makes lots and lots of purples. And of all the purple Zoya polishes I own, I have nothing else like this jewel called Giada!

"Giada can be best described as a purple liquid metal with a hint of fuchsia pearl." I only needed one coat! This purple is amazing!

Ember, it’s so hot, it’s cool!

"Ember can be best described as a deep, fiery red liquid metal with enough blue to be wearable for all skin tones." Again, absolutely perfect formula, one coat. It was so hard to make up my mind which of these was my favorite, but this is most surely a contender.

Aggie is one of the chameleon chromes that I can’t get enough of!

"Aggie can be best described as a gold holo flip liquid metal with bronze micro glitter. Sheer enough for layering with 1 coat or fully opaque in 3 coats!" I needed only two coats for full opacity.

Cinnamon is a delicious brown metallic.

"Cinnamon can be best described as a classic bronze liquid metal, originally designed for Zang Toi NYFW Fall/Winter 2015." What a gorgeous brown! Two coats here.

And finally, a bold metal, Tris.

"Tris can be best described as a blackened, brushed nickel liquid metal." I used two coats.
