Some 2015 seasonal faves from Indigo Bananas

Andrea from Indigo Bananas sent me a beautiful selection of polishes from each season so I could show you the diversity of her products. Well, I ended up with seven, even though there are only four seasons. 😉 You know it’s like a potato chip, once you have one, it’s hard to stop! I was going to break up the post into two, but oh well, I couldn’t wait to show you. And she is having a grand sale right now. She’s going to be moving and rather busy (I know how she feels). Details below. In the meantime, let’s take a peak at what I have for you today. This should hold you over until her new collection comes to fruition!

From left, Land of Green Ginger from Spring 2015. And 3 creme neons from the summer 2015 Neon The 10th Element collection, the pink is named after the collection, Neon The 10th Element, then Carbon Dallas and Phlogiston Paradise!

Let’s start with The Land of Green Ginger. This really pops for a pastel! See how that slides off the tongue? Popping pastel!

The Land of Green Ginger from the Spring 2015 collection is a cool minty teal green, buttery smooth teaming with glass flecks. Two coats here. It is described as: "Land of Green Ginger is a light, mint green creme packed with gold & gold to green colorshifting glass fleck (large size) shimmers, and scattered holo. Very flattering green! This polish is quite a bit lighter than Immortal Game, and a mint color, so quite a bit warmer than the medium teal of Immortal Game, in addition to having a different mix of shimmer."

Nest up will be three gorgeous neons from the Neon The 10th Element collection. Starting with a brilliant pink named after the whole collection!

Neon The 10th Element is a brilliant, eye-popping Neon pink, and named after its collection from Indigo Bananas Summer 2015 release. It is described as: "Neon is the 10th Element - and is the brightest color in this collection. Eye searing hot pink. This color is bright hot pink with no yellow cast."

Next up is Carbon Dallas. I love bright watery blues like this!

2 coats of this brilliant blue neon creme from Indigo Bananas Neon the 10th Element collection, Carbon Dallas. Of the three neons I'm presenting today, I left this one in it's natural state, they all dry satiny/semi matte, so you can see the finish. It is described as: "a blue/light blue neon creme that is semi-matte/satiny finish with two coats recommended."

Purple AND Neon? Yes please! Here is Phlogiston Paradise from the Neon The 10th Element collection.

Phlogiston Paradise from the Neon The 10th Element collection is a super opaque brilliant purple creme, 2 coats, as with all these. Just for a fun I included an accent nail using Hole In The Sky by Indigo Bananas. Somewhat because it looks cool. Plus if you ever saw (and appreciate the quirkiness of the film, The 5th Element) you can relate the "hole in the sky" reference. Stumped? Message me, LOL Anyway, it is described as: "Phlogiston Paradise is a purple creme; it leans more blue than other purple colors and is more violet-toned than royal purple-toned.  Swatch as pictured is two coats with top coat. As a neon, this polish will try semi-matte and not totally shiny. A top coat is recommended but not needed; the polish will become shiny with a day of wear if shine is a concern."

For the last three seasons, we have some Summer, Winter and Fall faves. Starting with Hole in The Sky from Summer Rains collex!

This one is GLORIOUS! Hole in the Sky from the Indigo Bananas Summer Rains collection in 2-3 coats. Great formula with tons of depth. It is described as: "The base of this color is a purple, but it is blue-leaning. The red to green shimmer and flakies in it give it a more purple cast. It photographs very blue in some lights (fluorescent) and with some cameras.  At an angle the flakes & shimmer shift green, and the polish will appear bluer. The linear holo effect is subtle (in order to not wash out the shimmer), but should be present in the sun and direct light.  Please apply three thin coats for ideal holographic effect (holo pigment is more linear when applied in a very thin layer)."

Everyone needs a teal holo, especially a linear! Here is Shrieking Teals from Fall.

Indigo Bananas Shrieking Teals from the Fall 2015 collection in two amazing coats. It is described as: "Shrieking Teals is a vibrant green leaning teal linear holographic. The holographic rainbow is slightly more subdued in this polish because of the vibrant color. Top coat affects the color of this polish a little bit - the polish is a deeper teal shade, it is shinier, and the holographic effect is a bit more pronounced but less linear. Multiple thinner coats tend to give stronger and deeper holographic effects. **Important notes**: The pigments in this polish have the possibility of staining. However, the staining is temporary and on the nail surface and can be removed or fades on it's own. To remove such stains, the fastest method is with cuticle remover on top of the nail and light scrubbing. A base coat prevents staining. Top coat is recommended for this polish for increased shine, and a slightly stronger holo."

And the last one is from Winter 2015, Night Gathers. Beautiful!

Gorgeous and sultry Night Gathers from Indigo Bananas Winter '15 collection. Two coats here! It is described as: "Night Gathers is an inky blue leaning black linear holographic polish. Two coats for full coverage, top coat recommended and does not affect the holo flame. Multiple thinner coats tend to give stronger and deeper holographic effects compared to a single thicker coat."

Conclusion: Loved all of these. The cool thing about neons, are they are bright and cheery. The coolest thing about these are you need no undies, no tighty whities! LOL They pop on their own. I highly recommend all these. No go shopping!

Here is the info on the Anniversary/ (3 years old on 2/1!) Clearance/Moving sale (also posted on Indigo Bananas Facebook page)!
“Indigo Bananas will be closed from Feb 9 – end of the month (we may open sooner but this is the latest it’ll be closed to). We’re relocating to a new state, so it’s time to have an Anniversary & Clearance/Moving Sale! (Indigo Bananas turns 3 on Feb 1st!)
No discount code needed, nearly all items in the shop are 10-40% off starting now (ends Feb 7 end of day). Most polishes are 30-40% off, however, and it stacks with gift certs & shipping promos. (The IB shop will be closed Feb 8-end of month at the latest).
Items in the discontinued section will not be restocked until further notice. Restocks, and a new release, in early March include: Winter 2015 Game of Thrones inspired collection, Fall Holos, and then Spring ’15 pastels, and neons will be restocked first week in March (with new releases). Older colors will be restocked at a later date. Indigo Bananas is part of the Creme a la Mode box and the next one is set for early March, so that color is the next one out for us!
Shipping will be going out asap, same day on weekdays, and shipments CANNOT be combined once you get a tracking number, since I’m on a time crunch – sorry! 🙂
****SHIPPING RATE CHANGES****
Shipping rates went up Jan 17, and I’ve adjusted them in the shop to match. Some rates are cheaper, some are more; mostly international is up. Shipping costs now cover a large weight range (8oz-32oz are the same for example!), so that’s why at some order weights it may seem less and sometimes more. Generally international is WAY up, US priority is WAY up, US first class is up for small amounts, and down for around 12-16oz.
IB has new shipping promos as a result:
* US free shipping over $50 (down from $60) (it’s actually way cheaper for me to ship first class)
* Canada – $5 flat rate above $100
* Mexico – $5 flat rate above $125
* Rest of World – $10 flat rate above $125

SquareHue 07.15 1960s box review…It’s really hip to be square!

I’m slowly getting back into the swing of things with my swatching and blogging. I managed to grab a few hours before the big move to swatch these and a few others. For some reason, my swatch “non-dominate” hand’s middle digit wants to keep chipping, just millimeters at a time, still frustrating! But now that all the packing, painting, etc is done for now and we are in Texas, my nails can breathe a sigh of relief and I can allow them to regain their original length. Sorry for the odd lengths. I couldn’t bare to trim them any further. 😉

I’m excited I got the Decades Collection July box, 1960, before we left. These three polish colors are wonderful for summertime. Let’s get right to the groovy images!

This month's The Decades Collection box featuring the 1960s is far out! The in-your-face fuscia Tune In is a satiny fuscia neon. It dries matte but looks amazing alone or with topcoat. Same with the highlighter neon Turn On. It's a brilliant 2-coater matte, and no white undies required. The purple/blue duochrome with brilliant blue flash shimmer makes this set complete, and oh, so glossy!

Let’s start with Tune In, a neon pink matte.

Tune In is one of those brilliant deep neon pinks that make you love, well, pink! Hard to tell by my photo here, but I put a coat of clear topcoat on the ring finger, but even matte, this color jumps off the nail.

Turn On is also matte, but it’s a brilliant neon yellow/green and I LOVE it! The photo makes it look more yellow, but on the nail it has a bit of green cast.

Turn On is a matte SUPER highlighter yellow/green that can make the most pale look tan! Wow, my camera couldn't even handle the brightness. Great formula, no white undies needed.

And last but not least, Drop Out. This glossy duochrome is opaque in 2-3 coats, and oh my, that blue flash is crazy!

Baroness X Nail Lacquer new collection, NeoElectro trio is coming soon!

First, let me get a tiny bit of business out-of-the-way. As you know (if you follow me on Instagram, and you should 😉 We have been planning a big move to Texas from Missouri. Now that has happened as of Monday, I’m slowly getting back to a bit of my regular posting routine. Sorry if it seems my blog presence has been a bit spotty in the past month. After living in the same home for 17 years, moving, fixing, sorting, purging and packing was more daunting than I imagined! But we’ve accomplished this phase (moving into our daughter and her hubby’s home while we househunt) and we are super pleased to be here! I’m getting caught up with my posts, which the next few are swatches I had already done before our trip and now time to post! I also trimmed the length of my nails down to keep them from breaking too badly during the move. Thank you for your patience.

Now for the important schtuff! lol This is my first experience with indie brand, Baroness X Nail Lacquer and I couldn’t be more pleased with this cute collection, NeoElectro. Owner, Demi Lee, also has a lot of other gorgeous polishes on her site as well. These formulas are all top notch, and really unique. They are set to release on July 29th, just around the corner. Let’s take a look!

The Neo Electro collection from left: FluoroFizz, Electric Sparks and Neon Bubbles. Each set comes with a set of Flair Free Mani Bombs and 4 hair ties! These are healthy minis in 8 ml size, which cost $18. The full size set (15 ml) size set is $27 and you can purchase full size individually for $10 ea.

First up is FluroFizz and I’ll share with you images both in direct sunlight and a well-lit room.

FluoroFizz is a gorgeous neon pink jelly filled with Spectraflair in the base and the glitters are a mix of matte and holo black glitter (the large circles are holo and some of the smaller glitters are as well. It loves the sun!

Next up is the brilliant Electric Sparks. This one really has kaboom!

Electric Sparks in the sun is gorgeous! I say gorgeous with a singing voice! lol On the ring finger you'll notice I painted one coat over white for an in-your-face highlighter effect. Or you can wear it slightly toned down with 3-4 coats over the bare nail. Easy to apply, easy to remove.

Electric Sparks in indoor natural light. You can still see the glitzy sterling silver flakies even without direct sunlight. Stunning!

And a macro shot of Electric Sparks because it’s just mesmerizing!

Macro of Electric Sparks. So simple but complex to describe. The highlighter yellow/green jelly base contains various small sizes of silver flakies. This gives them the appearance of having a golden hue, especially in the sun. It stunning! This is the nail with one coat over a white base.

And the third in this little collection is Neon Bubbles. How cute is this one?!

Neon Bubbles, even the name is fun! Here she is in full sunlight. I didn't try her alone, but this is one coat, smooth as silk. over a deep fuscia gloss. NB is filled with neon micro glitters of pink, aqua, yellow, green, and black. I think I got them all, oh and holo glitter.

Thanks so much for reading! All in all, I’m super impressed and highly recommend these polishes. Go check out Demi’s other collections while you are at it. Lots and lots of pretties!

3 of the Boardwalk Collection from Virago Vanish, I’m in love!

Oh wow, this is what summer neon polishes should be folks! Pigmented, non-staining, one-coater, no white undercoats. These babies from Virago Varnish have it all. I have 3 of the 9 available shades in this stunning collection. I’ll say it right away, GET THEM!

Wowza! I have three of Virago's Boardwalk collection for summer 2015 and are these beach babes bright! From left, Tsunami Mommy, Summer Highlighter of My Life and Paradise Pool.
Wowza! I have three of Virago’s Boardwalk collection for summer 2015 and are these beach babes bright! From left, Tsunami Mommy, Summer Highlighter of My Life and Paradise Pool.

Here are the swatches and descriptions!

For Tsunami Mommy I did a fun dry brush of the three shades over a glossy black on the accent nail

Virago describes Tsunami Mommy as, "Watch out for this mommy! Tsunami Mommy is a bright pink neon lacquer that will have onlookers gazing at your nails. A white base is not needed to achieve full opacity. For long-lasting neon manicures, we recommend the use of our Clutch Base Coat and Lambent Top Coat." Seriously folks, this is a hyper pigmented one-coater and NO white undies! It does dry satiny so if you want a glossy look you should use a clear topcoat.

On the Summer Highlighter… accent nail I dotted with Tsunami Mommy and Paradise Pool!

Neon yellow in one coat, no white undies? Yes please! Virago describes this beauty as, "Your future will be as bright as a highlighter wearing this lacquer. Summer Highlighter Of My Life is an extremely bright and opaque yellow neon crème nail lacquer. A white base is not needed to achieve full opacity. For long-lasting neon manicures, we recommend the use of our Clutch Base Coat and Lambent Top Coat."

For Paradise Pool I did a fun dry brush of the three shades over a glossy black on the accent nail.

Fabulously pigmented Paradise Pool! Virago describes it as, "Ready to take a dip? Why not into Paradise Pool? Paradise Pool is a bright pool blue neon lacquer. As with all Virago Varnish neon lacquers, a white base is not needed to achieve full opacity. For long lasting neon manicures, we recommend the use of our Clutch Base Coat and Lambent Top Coat." Morgan Taylor Hello Pretty! collection…last duo is Electric Pop

The final duo set I have to show you today is the Electric Popelectric pop box, which includes two seriously poppin’ shades. The neon pink is called Pop-arrazi Pose and the super bright purple is Anime-zing Color!

Wow! This duo is brilliant! Electric Pop includes a hot pink neon creme called Pop-Arazzi Pose and a sassy nearly neon purple called Anime-Zing Color!
Wow! This duo is brilliant! Electric Pop includes a hot pink neon creme called Pop-Arazzi Pose and a sassy nearly neon purple called Anime-Zing Color!

Both of these shades are quick drying, easy to work with, take 2-3 coats and dry to a satin finish. Adding a glossy topcoat is optional. Both are great for nail art!

I wanted you to see how these neon shades dry from the Hello Pretty! Electric Pop duo. Both are serious neons, the pink Pop-arazzi Pose more than the purple Anime=zing Color! They are both beautiful whether you leave them satin or add a glossy topcoat. Both take 2-3 coats depending on your technique. I used 3 coats for the pink and 2 coats for the purple.

2nd installment for Morgan Taylor’s Hello Pretty! duos, Cupcake Cute-Ture

Today I’d like to share the second of three beautiful duo sets, available NOW at Loxa Beauty. Cupcake Cute-Ture is a mouth-watering set containing a shimmery mint green and a shocking neon coral creme. Let’s take a look!

Cupcake Cute-Ture is an adorable set with a shimmery oriental green called Do You Harajuku? and a nearly neon coral called Manga-Round With Me.
Cupcake Cute-Ture is an adorable set with a shimmery oriental green called Do You Harajuku? and a nearly neon coral called Manga-Round With Me.

I LOVE neon corals and this creme did not disappoint. Typical perfectly creamy formula for MT lacquers, Manga-Round With Me is a tan loving, brilliant coral. It really gave my camera fits trying to balance my skin tone with that neon!

Manga-Round With Me applied perfectly in two coats, is slightly satin in finish and a brilliant neon coral creme. I have to say, I'm in love with this one!

Now, this is unusual for Morgan Taylor formulas, but this pretty little mint number, Do You Harajuku?, did not want to cooperate. It’s on the thick side, streaky on the first two coats but finally settles down on the third. I highly recommend letting each coat dry a good 5 minutes and it’s all good.

Do You Harajuku? requires three coats and this gorgeous shimmery mint is on the thick side, making it a bit of a challenge to apply evenly. The outcome is stunning but application did vex me! lol

It made a gorgeous base for a little “Cute-Ture” nail art!

Lovely shade of pale green mint with a hint of shimmer. Do You Harajuku? may be a bit of an unforgiving formula straight, but all it's all good when you add nail art. The neon coral creme Mango-Round With Me in the Cupcake Cute-Ture duo teams up beautifully!

Morgan Taylor Hello Pretty! Duo sets

Konnichiwa! As we dive right into Summer 2015, Loxa Beauty provided me for review three adorable duo sets from the Morgan Taylor Hello Pretty! collection. Today I’ll be sharing with you the first set of the three, “Bubblegum Yum”! High pigments, neon and bright cremes are the perfect pair.

The Bubblegum Yum duo is everything girl and pink with amazing formulas all around. The set includes Look At You, Pink-Achu! and Tokyo A GoGo.

Inspired by Japanese street style and pop anime culture, these polishes will have you saying, “Arigatō”! First of the Bubblegum Yum duo is Look At You, Pink-Achu!

From the Bubblegum Yum duo here is Look At You Pink-Achu! is a Barbie pink creme on the neon spectrum. A formula on the thicker side but 1-2 coats will do ya, very pigmented! It dries to a satin finish so I added a coat of clear topcoat.

I loved both formulas and Tokyo A GoGo really jumps off your nails!

The other stunner in the set is called Tokyo A GoGo. A highly pigmented, slightly thick and easy self-leveling pinky purple orchid neon creme...oh so fun and captivating!

And for some kawaii (cute) fun, I used both shades for this pop art polish.

A little fun using Tokyo A GoGo with some nail art and accented with Look At You Pink-Achu!

So far, Morgan Taylor’s formulas are fab and I can’t wait to show you the rest!

Summery dry marble with China Glaze Electric Nights

Good morning to you on this fine Memorial Day 2015! The sun is teasing us, in and out, in and out. After days and days of clouds and rain, I’ll take what I can get! I’m just thankful for the week we spent on our beach vacay where the sun shined bright and warm every day. We are busy packing up the house and doing a bit of paint and touchups around here. But neither rain, or moving or a little stress can keep me from my mission of bringing you a bit of lacquer inspiration. So this is just a quick post to share with you a bright little mani I came up with this weekend.

I know, I should have photographed a mini tutorial, but it's SO been done before! I promise the next one I will.
I know, I should have photographed a mini tutorial, but it’s SO been done before! I promise the next one I will.

I used two China Glaze shades from the 2015 Electric Nights collection. Here I used the brilliant neon orangey red, Red-Y to Rave and the neon grapey purple, Violet Vibes. I got them from a 3-pack I purchased from my Instagram girl, “nailpolishaddictsale“. She has lots of cool inventory so check her out!

Basically, I started with a single layer (which you can’t see here) of Glow With the Flow from the collection. Then dropping little dots of both of the other colors onto the nail and while wet, I drag a super fine brush across and marbling around the two until the colors run into each other. Be careful not to blend too much. You WANT to tell one shade from the other. Then top off when dry with a clear topcoat of your choice.

Have you tried this with any of the CG Electric Vibes? I’d love to see!

Three gorgeous new cremes from Madam Glam

Some of the many things I love about indie polish companies is their constant vision for thinking outside the box, pushing their own limits and constantly adding to their inventory of wonderful shades and finishes. Madam Glam is one of those companies that continue to bring it all to the table. Today I’ll be sharing some super glossy cremes. All perfect for the office or a beach party! Let’s see what we have!

From Left, Falling For You, Underground Queen and Rose Pethal. All three amazing formulas on these cremes.

First up is fast becoming one of my favorite shade types for spring and summer. Even without a tan, it makes you seem like you have one! Here is Falling For You. I think of this one as a bleached neon type of shade. Either way, it works for me.

Falling For You is described as: "Soft Baby Pink. It's like the beginning of a romance : soft, simple, amazing! The perfect pink for every romantic out there." I reached full opacity in two smooth coats, super glossy! It's quite bright without being a true neon, so no flat finishes here!

Another glossy pale peachy pink is Rose Pethal. Very neutral as far as nudes go and I think it would work on many skin tones.

Rose Pethal is described as: "Soft Pink Romantic yet playful, this light Pink is a must have for everyday occasion. So simple and so stylish!" I reached full opacity in this smooth applying creme in two coats. Super glossy as well!

And last for this post is a rich grey that is super glossy and a dream to apply. Underground Queen is a perfect grey on its own or as a moody base for nail art.

Underground Queen is described as: "Gunmetal Grey You always think outside the box? Then this shade is perfect for any season and occasion. Sophistication to another level!" As with the other two cremes I shared in this post, this applied totally opaque in two coats and dries super glossy!

Today I have the first of 3 installments featuring the new collection of Ultra Chrome Flakies polishes. The original baker’s dozen contained 13 UCFs in the last release and now they are holofied! So original names but blasted with holographic sparkle! Plus 4 new shades 2/reg + 2/holo. I’ll share 3-4 polishes in each of these posts so I don’t overload you with too many graphics! And just like the new spring collection I just shared (a total of 10) these too will be available for pre-order on March 6th. Here we go!

Ultra Chrome Flakies (H) You know ILNP (I Love Nail Polish) LOVES polish when they can create such massive collections! Each one a winner.

I’ll go ahead and start with the first two of four brand new UCFs (Ultra Chrome Flakies), Ice House and Ice House (H)!

Brand new shade called Ice House. And it's a frosty blue flakie with color shifts from mediterranean blue to aqua/teal to purple, with a bit of bronze and purple. Here I painted one light coat of CND Vinylux Reflecting pool from the 2015 Garden Muse collection. On the accent finger straight up 2 coats of Ice House on the bare nail!

You know IH has to have a holographic sister, Ice House (H)! Here she is.

Ice House (H) is the holographic version of it's sister, Ice House. It's even more sparkly with all that holo thrown in. I painted one thin layer over black. I with the sun had been out the day I shot this. It's blindingly gorgeous in the sun.

Get out your pens and paper, bookmark this post and head to ILNP to order on March 6th!

What is your vegan/cruelty free policy?
ILNP absolutely does not test our products on animals nor do we purchase materials from suppliers that do. We make a conscious effort to avoid purchasing animal/insect derived materials like carmine and guanine/pearl, etc. as there are plenty of synthetic alternatives that perform the same or even better.

Are your nail polishes 3-Free?
Yes! All ILNP nail polishes are 3 free! They DO NOT contain Toluene, Formaldehyde, or Dibutyl Phthalate.

What does 3-Free mean?
3-Free means that our nail polishes do not contain Toluene, Formaldehyde, or Dibutyl Phthalate. These 3 ingredients were previously used in most nail polish formulations until recent studies found them to be potentially harmful or irritable to humans. While these chemicals aren’t illegal to use in nail polish (although California law requires special labeling if used), most large brands have already moved to 3-Free formulas at the urge of educated consumers as well as organizations that campaign for safe cosmetics.”
