Born Pretty Store swatches to share!

I have received a few items from the Born Pretty Store, and since they were arriving separately in my mailbox, I wanted to wait until they all arrived and post them all together. So I have quite a selection of items for nail art so grab a coffee and have a seat. Here we go!

I’ll start with the best…and work down ๐Ÿ˜‰ Yeah, some were what I call “close” but no cigar. At least not for me. I think my favorite item from this menagerie was the Cat Eye Gel polish. It came with a special magnet that you hold over the polish before its cured, creating a mesmerizing cat eye effect. Now I want it in every color! I give this one 5 stars because the magnet was easy to use, the gel had a good strong amount of magnetics to create a stunning look. Color is BP-08 Jade Cat Eye.

Here is Born Pretty Professional UV & LED Soak Off Color Coat gel polish, Cat Eye in the color Jade. 2 coats.

And to follow-up, here is the same Cat Eye Gel BP-08 Jade with a BP gel holo flakes top coat #03 on top! Love this!

BP gel topper 03 over Jade cat eye gel, BP-08.

You know I absolutely love flakies and powder pigments. They are so transforming and really perk up a mani. First, here some holo flakies in BP 39677, a silver holo.

BP 39677 holo flakies are easy to work with. Can be used over regular polish, mixed into a sheer color, topped with water base top coat or used with gel polish.

And a great silver flakies powder, not to be confused with the super fine metallic chrome pigments, but a bit chunkier. These can be used loose, or burnished in (rubbed into a waterbase top coat or gel no wipe top coat) You’re only limited by your imagination. Go chunky and sparse or rub in a lot! BP silver flakies powder BP 39745.

Her is another pretty gel top coat with holo flakies in color #BP 01 over a rusty red!

This one gets an A for what it could have been. The gradient from red to purple/pink is gorgeous! Nail Foil papers are not for the faint of heart. It takes patience, and I have to admit I’ve worked with better. This one gave me a run for my money and would NOT rub in smoothly, but rather created more of a burnished metallic look. Still pretty, but I have hope for a more fluid look. BP nail foil redpink 38895.

BP nail foil redpink 38895 over a burgundy nail polish.

I had such high hopes for this nail art stamping plate. (BP stamping plate L015) You know of love cats, and this one definitely needs more practice, or maybe the etched images are not etched deep enough. I tried several different polishes that I KNOW have worked great in the past with other plates. Nope, none of them worked right and only gave me partial stamped images. I think this is one of those plates that really does need stamping polish to perform. And those cats are so dang cute! I seriously wanted to sling this plate across the room! LOL But I mushed on. Finally I decided to try a black gel polish and that worked but looked somewhat blurry. But hey. I’m not here to sing the praises of every product I test. This one, cute but I’d give it’s performance 2 stars out of 5. That makes me sad. I’m not finished with it yet. I’ll keep trying because hey, it’s full of cats! LOL

Manis and lacquers

Neptune’s Bubbles mani inspired by Cult Cosmetics lacquers!

I was thinking about the cool clear ocean this morning, naturally while I was looking for some nail art inspo. I pulled out a few faves from my Cult Cosmetics collection and BOOM! A bubble mani featuring some cool blues. One of the quickest ways to take your mani from “meh” to “Oh My! is with nail dotting tools. Say hello to my undersea mani I call, Neptune’s Bubbles! Not that Neptune has anything to do with our ocean. But the blues, it’s all about blue! Did you know?…”Neptune’s atmosphere is made up of hydrogen, helium and methane. The methane in Neptune’s upper atmosphere absorbs the red light from the sun but reflects the blue light from the Sun back into space. This is why Neptune appears blue.” It’s a gassy planet, but hey, it’s blue!

I'm pretty stoked about how my seaside mani turned out. I called it, "Neptune's Bubbles"! Over each nail I used the iridescent flaky topper called Hollywood Forever. Pinky nail is dark and shimmery House of Blues, middle finger is a creme, Catalina and pointer finger I used The Roxy. The accent nail (my inspo for Neptune's Bubbles) I used all four with a dotting tool.

Here are the polishes used in today’s mani.

โ€ข House of Blues, sorry, no link to this beauty. I couldn’t find it on the web site so it may be discontinued. If you do find it let me know! It’s a gorgeous cobalt blue shimmer, and a one coater. Just like the two cremes here, each only require one coat and super glossy.

โ€ข Catalina, described as, “Catalina is like a vacation to your favorite island. On a warm day, feel free to wear this bright and dreamy blue – and nothing else!”

โ€ข The Roxy, described as, “The Roxy is the new language of LA sass! This vibrant, feminine hue can take your mani from gentle to intense, depending on your mood. Name inspired on the renamed venue in Sunset blvd . Name inspired by the legendary nightclub on the Sunset strip. Bob Marley & the Wailers, The Ramones, RHCP and Gwen Stefani are some of the amazing musicians who played at The Roxy.”

โ€ข Hollywood Forever, described as, “Hollywood Forever is a light-shattering polish for next-dimension nails. Its opalescent glow and shining shades go on like magic over any base color.”

Gee, now I’m thinking of some other color combos for this cute look. How about you, have you tried a bubble dotted mani? By the way, these are available now for $12.50 ea, and Cult Cosmetics also carry polish kits, nail art tools and more!

Cult Cosmetics lacquers are premium, 5-FREE, Vegan, cruelty-free single coat polishes and makeup products. None of their polishes are animal tested and they are made in California, USA.

CND Vinylux Fall 2015 Contradictions, pt. 2

Continuing my feature of these eight fabulous shades for fall 2015, Contradictions is a fun transitional set. Today I’ll be sharing two more polishes, Grommet and Rouge Rite.

Rouge Rite is one of those essential reds, not a bright red, but a moody, juicy red.

Rouge Rite is a gorgeous red creme that applies like a dream, completely opaque in two smooth coats. It was a fabulous base for this plastic wrap nail art using Grommet.

Fall 2015, Contradictions Collection by CND Vinylux coming your way!

I know, I know. It’s 90 degrees out, the sun is shining…not even dog days yet. But still, we all love taking a peek at fall collections right about this time. And the new CND Vinylux fall collection for 2015, Contradictions, will not disappoint. This warm and cozy bunch features 8 polishes in the Weekly Polish System lineup. The Shellac version contains six. I will be bringing you 2-3 shades at a time, just to tempt your autumn appetite.

CND says, "Turn up the contrast with the new Fall 2015 Contradictions collection from CND. Textures and tones collide for an unexpected elegance: leather and lace, street and chic, metal and pearl." For starters, today I chose a light and a dark shade from the Weekly Polish collection with a little block color nail art thrown in. Naked Naivete and Couture Covet.

I LOVE this blushing nude Naked Naivetรฉ on its own, but to kick it up a notch, I paired it with this luscious teal cream called Couture Covet from the fall collection Contradictions. Color blocking is always fun with contradicting shades!

The Naked Naivetรฉ recquired 3 coats for this look. You might get away with two and it’s super creamy and self-leveling. Couture Covet is a smooth 1-coater.

Keep watching here as I bring you more combos from the collection. โ€œThis seasonโ€™s trends celebrate an unexpected clash between gritty street elements and elegant details for a dynamic combination of glamour and grunge,โ€ says CND Co-founder and Style Director Jan Arnold. โ€œNails evoke an edgy narrative with blackened pigments and heraldic ornaments. Enhanced almonds in purple and red are deepened and oxidized with smoked pearl and steel finishes.โ€

SquareHue Decades Collection 1930s

The month of April brings is the 1930s from the SquareHue Decades Collections monthly subscription box. And boy is it bright and happy! Each month subbies get three full size polishes related to the changing themes. For 2015 SquareHue is featuring a different decade. Fresh on the heels of the 1929 stock market crash, folks going from feast to famine experienced many changes. They found new strength in themselves and community, and fun and fashion shared the spotlight with new technologies and pastimes. And just like changing fashions, the world’s focus was centered around recovery, staying afloat and avoiding another war. On a lighter note, let’s take a fun look at the colors inspired by that decade.

What brilliant shades to brighten the memories of the past! The tomato soup orangish red is called Boardgame. That lovely freen with blue notes is WPA. and that grapey purple is Tomorrowland.

I love the attention to detail SquareHue gives to its labeling. You know exactly which month and collection your bottle belongs to.

First up is what I would definitely call a tomato red. Not in the orange family but you can definitely see it in this glossy red creme called Boardgame.

Boardgame is a brilliant orangey red creme gloss. The formula is on the thin side but super easy to apply and very forgiving. 2-3 coats to a perfect finish. In the 1930s, families were still trying to recover from economic turmoil, and the introduction of inexpensive board games became the norm for family fun. Games like dominoes, card games, and the first editions of Monopoly and Scrabble soon occupied playtime for kids and adults alike.

Next up is WPA. It’s a great creme, not quite as glossy as the other two, but a cool medium toned green.

WPA is a 2-coat freen creme. It's a great formula. WPA of the 1930s stands for Work Profress Administration, part of the "New Deal" getting people back to work.

And lastly we have that gorgeous grape, a slightly dusky purple called Tomorrowland. The formula is much like WPA, and is opaque in two coats.

This is Tomorrowland. I love this kind of purple. And the formula is super smooth. In the 1939 Worlds Fair, the Tomorrowland exhibit gave us a glimpse I to the future.

Just for fun, I did a dry marble accent nail using all three shades. A culmination of the hopes and dreams of the 1930s.

Here is a combo dotticure and dry marble using all three shades. I love that none of the shades are related but seem to compliment each other in this nail art.

A tropical look with Born Pretty water decals!

With summertime approaching, a great and easy way to accent your beach look is with palm tree water decals from Born Pretty Store. The online store sent me a few items for review and if you know me by now, I’m always thinking of palm trees, sandy beaches and the ocean. Let’s take a look.

These cute Palm trees, leaves and branches come on one sheet, plenty of sizes and pieces to go around for several manis, item Number 16606. Order at the Born Pretty Store here!

These decals are easy to prepare and apply. Just cut the ones you wish to use, remove the protective plastic top sheet, place in a small bowl of tepid water (I use a 1 ounce medicine cup), soak for about 10-20 seconds, pat dry and slide the decal onto your finger. I use tweezers to place on my prepared nail. Add topcoat and voila!

This mani is Shamrockin’ using shades from Cult Cosmetics!

St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner and what better way to celebrate than with a bit ‘o the Irish feel than with a Shamrockin’ mani?! Now, I have to admit, I don’t have a drop of Irish in me. Not that I know of. But most of us have grown up celebrating the day anyway. I did some simple nail art using a dotting tool for some rudimentary shamrocks. I used a fine lining brush for the rainbow and added a few dots of gold to complete the look. No blarney, I did it in 15 minutes! Let’s take a look.

The mani at the end of the rainbow! Here is a cute nail art idea for you for your St. Patrick's Day mani. I used 2 coats of that pale minty green Venice Beach, 2 coats of Palos Verde and the gold accents I used the gold micro glitter bomb polish (not a glitter topper, a polish, called Whiskey A Go Go by Cult Cosmetics.

A simple Mardi Gras inspired mani with 3 ILNP Ultra Chrome Flakies!

Actually, although I am a day late for the actual Mardi Gras day, folks in New Orleans and most likely beyond are still celebrating. So I thought I’d share with you my super simple Mardi Gras nails using ILNP’s Ultra Chrome Flakies. Of course the three mainstay colors of MG are purple, gold and green. Granted, Mardi Gras is all about celebrating, excess, thinking outside the box and blingy overkill in fashion. But after all that preparation, a simple nail art that still delivers the shine and looks amazing is just the ticket!

Well, I may be a day late and a dollar short, since the true Mardi Gras was technically yesterday. But folks are still celebrating, you can bet on it! I used three MG shaded flakies from the Ultra Chrome Flakies from ILNP. The green one is Open Fields, the gold is Rapture and the purple is Metropolis. All are available in the ILNP.COM store! The accent nail used all three over black. 2 coats on the others over a bare nail, followed by a clear topcoat.

Manis and lacquers

CND Vinylux for Game Day. Are you ready for some football…manis that is?

Allow me to “kick off” with a little back story! When I was in high school…like eons ago, I was a loyal “WHS Husky”. Our school mascot was a fierce canine as was our football team, and our colors were black and orange. Yeah, can you hear me yawning? Don’t get me wrong. I adored my alma mater, our mascot, our fabulous campus and MOST of my teachers. ๐Ÿ˜‰ But honestly, our school colors were the colors of Halloween! But, going to football and basketball games were always proud and memorable events. We donned our school colors, wrapped fuzzy black and orange angora thread around our steady boyfriend’s class ring and spent countless nights shouting “Go Huskies” ’till we were hoarse. By the way, I personally do not have a preference this year since my own home pro team didn’t qualify…again! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Have I painted a proper picture for you?

Speaking of painting, it’s a great time to be a pro football fan and you’re going to want to paint your nails with your team’s colors or even attempt some nail art. Man, I wish we were more adventurous with our manis back then! We are literally just around the corner from the Big Game! Time to grab some polishes representing your favorite team, whether they’re from Seattle or New England.

Whether you're rooting for New England (colors on the left are "Hollywood" and "Midnight Swim") or Seattle (colors on the right are Lush Tropics and Indigo Frock) you'll find the perfect combination of shades with CND Vinylux Weekly Polishes from Loxa Beauty. www.shoploxa.com

Score one for New England with a super simple mani!

Your New England inspired mani can be as simple as this one using striping and dots, and a little star. I used Hollywood and Midnight Swim. For the accent finger I used a shimmery pigskin brown topped laced with some white striping tape.

Seattle touches down at the goal post with a fun dotticure.

For my Seattle look I used Lush Tropics and Indigo Frock. I used a white striper polish for the goal post and the same brown shimmer for the tiny football!

Aren’t these colors fun? Let me digress a bit before sending you off to the big game. You know when you begin those last four years of secondary education, you rarely have a choice just because might have a distaste for the school’s colors. I’m just glad we got to wear black graduation robes instead of bright orange! Potential college recruits do have a little more variety in their futures. Whether your future grad gown is pomegranate or puce, you do tend to identify with your alliances by the colors they embrace. When you become a pro football fan, it’s no different. How you identify with your team may be even more intense. By this time you don’t care what your home team’s colors are. You might paint your face, wear frighteningly unattractive headgear, and now you find yourself freezing your buns off barbecuing from the back of your SUV in a parking lot! See? Now our allegiance has REALLY matured! LOL

As always, CND polishes are quick drying and easy to apply. Brushes are super nice. I used two coats of each shade. Here are the polishes from CND Vinylux that might score big in your playbook.
