Born Pretty Gel, Foils and Oil!

Well, this was a fun package I received in the mail today. Some gorgeous gel polishes, shimmers and Cat Eye, a dozen metallic foils and some tropical scented cuticle oil. Every single item is a winner. Let’s take a look!

First, a denim blue frosty Magnetic Cat Eye gel polish, BP 05. I thought it was going to be more of a midnight blue, but this works for me! Applied over black gel polish to really make it stand out. It is item #41515

BP 05 Magnetic Cat Eye Gel is a gorgeous deep denim blue, here I used a round magnet for this special effect. Cure after applying magnet and voila!

How about a lovely golden shimmer and red shimmer duo from Born Pretty’s Soak Off Gel Polish line?! Perfect together at a great price. This is item BP Soak Off Gel polish set #41492.

A 2-pack of BORN PRETTY Red Sparkle Gel and Gold Holographic Glitter Soak Off Nail Gel Polish. A beautiful duo!

I am SO loving these super thin, easy to apply nail foil, gold leaf variations, gold, silver, and two oil slick variations. 12 pots and a tiny bit goes a LONG way! I applied them over BP 05 Cat Eye gel! Item #3966

Set pf 12 Nail Art Foil in Gold, Silver, oil slick red/orange/gold/teal and oil slick gold/red/orange/fuscia Set! Easy to apply over nail polish then top coat, or over any stick layer then top coat with gel as I did here over BP Cat Eye Gel BP 05. Item # 3966

And last but not least, an amazing cuticle oil pen, item #39329 in the scent of Coconut and man it smells amazing. Not fake or plasticky, but like real coconut. It isn’t overly oily, but feels just right. It also comes in Pineapple, Peach, Lavender and Almond.

An amazing Nail Cuticle Oil 2ml Fruit or Flower scented, in a handy metallic pen. I used Coconut here and it smells amazing, not too shiny either so great for photographing nail swatches. I am loving this stuff!

Glitter Lambs Loose Eyeshadow pigments find another use!

Well, leave it to me to repurpose all things cosmetic! I saw Glitter Lambs new eyeshadows and highlighters, and they are satiny soft and easy to blend, and it occurred to me they might rub nicely into gel polish. I was right! They impart either a metallic, color changing effect, or just add a hint of a little extra something! I used these over gel polish and no wipe top coat. You can see on Jamie’s Glitter Lambs Etsy page or web site how pigmented and highlighted they really are on the skin. Some items may be temporarily sold out. Let’s take a look at my swatches! Remember, these are actually meant for eyeshadow and highlighters, but work well as nail pigments!

Glitter Lambs Bioluminescent loose eyeshadow rubbed into a 30-second cured no wipe top coat, over Madam Glam Tomboy gel polish! Just…wow!

GlitterLambs 24 Karat Eyeshadow, Gold Loose Eyeshadow Pot. Shown swatched over white gel polish on left side shows a true gold metallic look and over black on the right gives a metallic goldish green effect. “24 Karat” is a gold loose eyeshadow pigment.

Aquarium Eyeshadow Pot by Glitter Lambs. “Aquarium” is a sheer shimmery light green with a light gold shift loose eyeshadow pigment.
Here it is used as a pigment over white gel polish, is much more iridescent than pictured! I also tried it over black but the effect is too subtle to capture.

Arctic (with Blue Flash) Loose Eyeshadow/Highlighter Pot
Glitter Lambs “Arctic” is a white loose eyeshadow pigment that has a blue flash when applied to the skin. Can be used as a highlighter as well. And of course, being the part-time alchemist that I am, I tried it over black and white gel polish! Over white it has a delicate blue shimmer and over black it’s a gorgeous blue metallic!

Glitter Lambs Buttercream (Gold Flash) Loose Eyeshadow/Highlighter Pot. “Buttercream” is a white loose eyeshadow pigment that has a gold flash when applied to the skin. Can be used as a highlighter as well. Applied here over white on left (in the right light gives a delicate gold flash pearl), and over black a deep antique gold metallic.

Classy is a creme colored with gold flash eyeshadow that can also be used as a highlighter. Here I applied it like pigment over white gel polish (with no wipe topcoat light cured for 30 seconds as with all these) and you can’t really see in this photo, but in light and full sun you can see a soft golden sparkle. Beautiful!

Foxy Eyeshadow Pot, Loose Eyeshadow Pot, a Deep Reddish berry shade. I used it over black polish here but can also be used for a lighter effect over white!

Glow loose eyeshadow by Glitter Lambs is a dreamy golden shifting pigment, and over black polish becomes a coppery bronze!

Glitter Lambs “Licorice” Glitter Eyeshadow Pot, Holographic Loose glitter at GlitterLambs.com. Glitter Lambs “Licorice” is a black holographic .008 cosmetic glitter that has a slight rainbow prism shift to it. Sprinkled over black topped with gel topcoat before curing for a dimensional textured holo black look!

Phantom (Purple Flash) Highlighter Pot by Glitter Lambs. “Phantom” is a white loose eyeshadow pigment that has a purple flash when applied to the skin. Can be used as a highlighter as well. Over black becomes a metallic deep purple!

Platinum Silver Loose Eye shadow Pot. Glitter Lambs “Platinum” is a silver loose eyeshadow pigment. Glitter Lambs Loose Eyeshadow Pigments can be applied with the finger for a more intense color or you can use an eyeshadow sponge-tip applicator. This richly pigmented silver is sure to be a head turner. It’s A BEAUTY! Amazing soft metallic silver over white or black polish!

Glitter Lambs “Zombie Apocalypse” Glitter Eyeshadow Pot
by GlitterLambs.com. Glitter Lambs “Zombie Apocalypse” is a black glitter powder in a .002 size. This is an extremely small tiny cut glitter and almost like a powder.. You will only see the rainbow prism shift in this glitter in natural/outdoor sunlight.
If it’s overcast outside then the glitter will look like just a black glitter with no holo.
Indoors this glitter will look black. ONLY THE SUNLIGHT OUTSIDE WILL BRING OUT THE SCREAMS IN THESE ZOMBIES! An edgey textured effect sprinkled over any wet topcoat! If you use gel topcoat, sprinkle on wet then cure. Over regular topcoat, sprinkle over wet, and optionally top again with matte or glossy topcoat.

Tahitian Sun polishes adds sparkle to your fingers and toes!

Two sparkling summertime metallics from Tahitian Sun. Metallic Silver and Metallic Gold. Those bottles!!!!

Okay, I’m a sucker for flashy polish bottles and Tahitian Sun custom polishes really hit home with my beach lovin’ heart with their sandy bottle tops with real starfish embellishments. Wow!

Tahitian Sun went full on with creativity and the beachy tropical theme reflects as well with the bottles and caps. I love the sandy lids with a real mini starfish on top!

And now for the fun part. Here are two of their sparkling metallics. Metallic Silver and Gold. And a luscious berry shade, Raspberry.

Tahitian Sun Metallic Silver is a silver glitter metallic Nail Polish in a super opaque metallic finish, 0.5 fl oz / 15ml bottle with flat brush and 2 inch sand-like cap topped with a mini starfish. 1-2 coats of this sparkler!

Tahitian Sun Metallic Gold is a sparkly gold Nail Polish in a glitter metallic finish, 0.5 fl oz / 15ml bottle with flat brush and 2 inch sand-like cap topped with a mini starfish. I used 3 smooth coats here.

Gorgeous Tahitian Sun Raspberry! 2-3 coats, here is two. I also added a gel-like top coat. There is a slightly textured glossy finish due to the ton of holo within. A good heavy duty topcoat will smooth that right out.

Tahitian Sun Raspberry is a heavy holo raspberry red in a jelly-like raspberry base.

Toxic Free Ingredients (5-FREE)
All of our products contain “No Toluene, Dibutyl Phthalat, Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin, or Camphor”. We take pride in being a toxic 5-Free alternative.
Toluene. The least harmful of the toxic trio, toluene is a volatile organic compound (VOC) that is found in paints, thinners, and inks. Despite giving nail polish its ability to dry quickly, toluene is still a harmful chemical. The ingredient is also classified by the California Department Of Public Health Occupational Health Branch California Safe Cosmetics Program as cancer-causing.
Dibutyl phthalate (DBP). DBP is a carcinogen found in paints, plastics, and pesticides that stops nail polish from being brittle. It is classified by the European Union as a suspected endocrine disrupter and Health Canada has linked it to liver and kidney failure in children.
Formaldehyde. Similar to DBP, formaldehyde is also classified as a known human carcinogen by The International Agency for Research on Cancer. It allows nail polish to harden and chip less, but can lead to fatigue, skin irritation, and immune dysfunction in users.
Formaldehyde resin. While similar to formaldehyde, no link between cancer and formaldehyde resin has been found. The resin helps strengthen nails, but is a skin allergen and immune system toxicant that can cause dermatitis.
Camphor. Camphor is created by distilling the bark of a camphor tree. Although natural, inhaling or having large exposure to camphor can be toxic, create irritation, and cause seizures in children.

Here are the swatches, starting with the metallics/holos!

Merida in 2 coats. I LOVE this one! I love them all but I have a soft spot in my heart for scattered holos and have been dreaming of a rich deep green scattered holo by Zoya forever! It is described as a brilliant lush evergreen scattered holo. Smooth application with an elegant 2 coat coverage.

Finley, 2 coats. I’m SO glad Zoya continues their fabulous scattered holos! It is described as a deep royal purple scattered holo. Smooth application with an elegant 2 coat coverage.

Alicia, 2 coats. It is described as a linear holo with a touch of gold. Smooth application with an elegant 2 coat coverage.

Britta in 1 coat! It is described as a berry metallic with a red and purple fuchsia flash. Densely pigmented, smooth application.

Troy in 1 coat! It is described as a liquid pewter with a foil finish and an edgy touch of black and gold. Densely pigmented, smooth application.

Ash in 1 coat! It is described as a vibrant cherry with a red and gold metallic shimmer. Densely pigmented, smooth application.

And the cremes…

Courtney in 1 coat! This is beyond perfection! It is described as a deep red beet root shade with a full coverage, and smooth application.

Noah in 1 coat. A bit thick but good application, very pigmented for a nude. It is described as a mid-range taupe evenly balanced between yellow and grey, with a full coverage and smooth application.

Tara in 1 coat. Oh man, love this shade! It is described as a purple plum with a balanced tone between red and purple. Deeply saturated, full coverage, smooth application.

Wyatt in 1 coat, great formulas these cremes! It is described as a true racing green with a deep pigment, full coverage, and smooth application.

Mallory in 1 perfect coat. Ahh, it practically applies itself! It is described as a full bodied, Prussian blue with deeply saturated color.

August in 2 coats, just slightly more sheer than the rest of the cremes in this set. It is described as a full coverage gray like a fine, expensive leather with mid-ranged, balanced tone.

CONCLUSION: Every formula was perfect. The thinnest of the thicker cremes was August. My favorite shades of the cremes…a tossup between the deep reds of Tara and Courtney. In regards to the formulas of the metallics and holos, every single one was perfect. My faves were Merida, Finley and Ash. But don’t back me into a corner, I love them all!

Baroness X Dreamscape Part II shines!

I have been dying to get this review out to my lovely readers for a couple of weeks now. I received this set right at Christmastime and I was also recovering from being sick most of December. My sweet hubby just has double carpal tunnel surgery the other day, well, on our anniversary! Needless to say, we are healing up nicely, my company has departed and the dust has settled in our house. 😉 I’m so excited to finally share these four gorgeous polishes with you. The Baroness X Dreamscape Part II collection is a simply put, “DREAMY”! Let’s take a look at these fabulous indie creations!

The Dreamscape Pt. II collection is a set of 4 iridescent shifty micro flakies and thin metallic shard glitter polishes. Opacity: use 1-2 coats as a topper over any color you’d like, looks best over black or complimenting darker colors. From left/rear: Dynastic, Phantasmic, Surrealistic and Etheric.

The formulas are smooth and glide nicely over any basecoat (and it is recommended that you use a deep, dark or black underneath to really show how these babies pop). They dry fairly smooth and I recommend a thin topcoat. They wear really well. After swatching all four of these, I wore one of them for full week, plus a couple of days. Although easy to remove, I had very little tip wear and no chipping. On with the Dreamscapes!

First up, Etheric!

Etheric seems like it was made for a glossy black undercoat. Shown here is one thin coat over Chloe & Bella “Blackout”.

Etheric is described as: “Etheric is a glass flakie polish with fuschia glitter shards. The flakies are a larger size which promotes a strong multichrome effect. Facing forward you can see a bright teal and it shifts over to blue, purple and then fuschia. You can wear this on its own but it looks great over black or complimenting colors.”

Dynastic is a dynamo!

Dynastic shines golden with clever green/gold shifts over a deep blackened mahogany red by OPI, “I Sing in Color”.

Dynastic is described as: “a glass flakie polish with bright red glitter shards. The glass flakies are a larger size which promotes a strong multichrome effect. Facing forward you can see gold and it shifts over to green and blue. You can wear this on its own but it looks great over black or complimenting colors.”

Phantasmic is like peering into the Caribbean!

Phantasmic gives off a mermaidy sheen…a really fluid shade shifter. Here I used one thin coat over “Poison Ivy”, a deep blackened green shimmer by Wet ‘N Wild.

Phantasmic is described as: “…a glass flakie polish with green glitter shards. The glass flakies are a larger size which promotes a strong multichrome effect. Facing forward you can see a turquoise blue and it shifts over to a deeper blue and violet. You can wear this on its own but it looks great over black or complimenting colors.”

And Surrealistic is stunning!

Surrealistic simply glows over black polish! Here I used one coat over “Blackout” and topcoated with “Crystal Clear” by Chloe & Bella.

Surrealistic is described as: “…a glass flakie polish with blue glitter shards. The glass flakies are a larger size which promotes a strong multichrome effect. Facing forward you can see a pink leaning purple and it shifts over to orange/amber or gold. You can wear this on its own but it looks great over black or complimenting colors.”

A silvery trio from SquareHue Decades Collection

I especially love this month’s installment of the Decades collection from polish subscription company, SquareHue. The collection focuses on the decade of 2000s, and this silvery trio commemorates a couple of key memories the whole world shares in one way or another. Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and the terrorist attacks of 9/11/01. A bright light that helped ease the pain of those times was Idol, a program that allowed us to keep our mind off a changing world. And as I pen this entry tonite, the world has been put on alert once again. Unfolding as we speak, terrorist attacks have occurred all around Paris, France. Never Forget is still on our tongues. But I don’t write this to bring you down and rekindle painful memories. I mention it because we can’t forget we don’t live in a perfect world and we can’t bury our heads in the sand. And we must continue on and hold our heads up high. We can be positive and be kind, helpful, hopeful. There is still a lot of beauty in this world. We appreciate companies like SquareHue. Not only do they bring beauty and color into the world. They contribute daily to the rescue of trafficked and kidnapped individuals. That is hope my friends.

Never Forget 2002, is a silver foil metallic one-coater. It dries to a satiny finish. I applied two lines of Hurricane to represent the Twin Towers.

Idol 2002 is a simple silver micro glitter topper in a clear smooth base. One coat here over Never Forget.

Hurricane 2005 is a metallic pewter that dries to a medium satin finish. One coat! Katrina seems like it was yesterday.
