Diving right into the April polish subscription box from SquareHue, the moment I opened it I was out of breath! The April Adventure Collection brings us Skydive Interlaken. Three finishes, three knockout shades. Let’s suit up and take a look!
Eye popping shades for April! From Left, Monch…an eye-searing matte yellow. Eiger…a pink duochrome gloss (I’d consider it more of a pink with flashes of blue). And a glitter within a purple crelly, Jungfrau.
Monch is so brilliant, not even the sun can compete with this shade. Wear it matte or shine it up even more with a topcoat. I don’t know why but yellow this shade screams for black! So I had fun with some dots and dry marble.
Monch in 2 coats. I read that some folks had some streaking and stringy formula issues. I had NO issues at all. Dried fast and very matte and I didn’t even need a 3rd coat.
Eiger is a super glossy pink with flashes of blue shimmer. I don’t seem to get a duochrome effect, but it’s sure gorgeous!
It took 3 thin coats and was easy to apply. I love pinks like this with that hint of shimmer.
Last but no way least, a super surprise this month is a pale purple crelly/glitter, Jungfrau. Hey, did you know that Jungfrau is a group of mountain peaks in Switzerland? Me neither. I really must get out more! lol
Jungfrau in 3 easy coats gives you great depth and dimension.
Conclusion. I read a couple mini reviews and a couple of reviewers had a couple of problems with Jungfrau and Monch. I had 0 problems, 0 defects! the Eiger took a bit longer to dry but the glossiness is worth it. Jungfrau is exactly how I like my crelly/glitters. And Monch, well. She’s a standout as far as yellow polishes are concerned. I’m super pleased!

Today I’ll be reviewing the new (and available now) Zoya MatteVelvet Winter/Holiday 2015 collection. Let me preface by saying that these shades are completely different than the last collection…in case you were wondering! Zoya says, “The best-selling, MATTEVELVET finish returns this holiday season with six new shades. Each nail polish perfectly opaque, matte color with that extra special ZOYA MATTEVELVET fleck finish everyone loves.” Let’s take a look at what you’ll be wanting!
The Zoya MatteVelvet nail colors to slip into this Winter/Holiday season. From left: Aspen, Amal, Honor, Iris, Sue and Yves.
I’ll start with Aspen. She’s a clean, crisp, snowy white with the prettiest diamond pearl fleck. So hard to capture but believe me, she’s gorgeous!
Aspen, 2 coats, is described as: Aspen (ZP814) – a sparkling artic white with a micronized diamond pearl fleck.
Next is Amal, a classic crimson ruby-red. So perfect for the holidays!
Amal, 2 coats, is described as: Amal (ZP816) – a classic crimson red with a ruby red pearl fleck.
Honor is one of those essential greens for your holiday nailwear!
Honor, 2 coats, is described as: Honor (ZP819) – a true emerald green with a tone on tone emerald pearl fleck.
Iris is the perfect name for this regal amethyst purple.
Iris, 2 coats, is described as: Iris (ZP817) – a deep amethyst with a fuchsia pearl fleck.
Sue, she’s a delicate champagne gold with oyster pearl fleck. The sheerest of the bunch, so 2-3 coats will do the trick.
Sue, 2 coats, is described as: Sue (ZP815) – a soft champagne gold with a multi-hued oyster shell pearl fleck.
And last is Yves. A deep sapphire blue.
Yves, 1-2 coats, is described as: Yves (ZP818) – a deep sapphire that’s midway in between indigo and royal blue with a blue pearl fleck.
Conclusion: I always love the MatteVelvets and these shades for 2015 are all gorgeous. I can’t pick a favorite! But I DO love how Yves and Iris look on me. I want you to know they are all easy to apply and fairly quick drying. You can (although Zoya advises against it, see below) apply a gloss topcoat for a shiny look and it really brings out the hidden treasures of sparkle within. They suggest to apply a thin coat of the Matte Velvet Topcoat to retain the velvety appearance. They also suggest no base coat is needed. I will have to mention that I did leave Yves (the deep blue) on my bare nails overnight and experienced slight staining. That will go away, but I think a base coat on this one would have not allowed stains. Do not let this minor issue steer you away from experiencing lovely Yves!
NOTE: MATTEVELVET nail color by Zoya is not intended to be worn with a base coat, glossy top coat or speed dryer. Due to the unique matte formulation, color is not as long-wearing as traditional nail color. A completely clean, dry surface yields the best results for matte nail color wear. To extend wear, apply one coat of the Zoya Matte Velvet Topcoat over your favorite matte shades after polish is completely dry. AVAILABLE NOW!

I was recently contacted by Candace, founder and ceo of the indie polish maker, Mosi Mei in regards to reviewing their products. I am so thrilled she did! I was immediately delighted to see the square-shaped bottles, high-end packaging and attention to detail. The company has a lot to offer and that’s including nail treatments such as base coat, top coats and matte which I tested along with the first four shades. I have many more coming so stay tuned. For today I’ll be sharing some fall appropriate shades. I’m going to preface the first four shades with a rundown of the basic nail treatments. Let’s take a look!
Mosi Mei offers four nail treatments. From left: Base Coat, Shine topcoat, Glass topcoat and Matte topcoat.
Descriptions of the treatments: SHINE – A high shine finish.
I am the perfect top coat to add strength and a chip resistant top layer to any nail hue. I dry quickly and help keep MOSI MEI nail hues on 2x3X longer. You only need to apply 1 coat of SHINE top coat and you are ready to go!
formula: créme finish: high shine type: clear
GLASS – A ultra high shine, gel-like wet look finish. I am the perfect top coat to any nail hue for a mega unique wet look effect. Formulated to be used with nail hues for a 2-3X longer lasting and chip resistant finish. Quick drying and lush looking. Look no further for your perfect top coat. Oh, and I do dry clear – don’t be fooled by my pink tone. You only need to apply 1 coat of GLASS top coat and you are ready to go!
formula: créme finish: ultra shine type: clear
BASE – A solid and grounding base for all nail hues. I am the perfect foundation to add strength and long-lasting staying power that help nail hues last 2-3X longer.
You only need to apply 1 coat of BASE base coat and you are ready for your favorite nail hue!
formula: créme finish: satin type: sheer
MATTE – A velvety luxe finish.
I am the perfect top coat to any nail hue if you want a matte, sleek and urban luxe look to your nail hue. You can apply me to metallic, satin, and gloss nail hues and I will change their appearance to a smooth velvet finish. Formulated to be used with nail hues for a 2-3X longer lasting and chip resistant lifespan. Quick drying and sleek. You only need to apply 1 coat of MATTE top coat and you are ready to go!
formula: créme finish: matte type: sheer
Now for the fun part! Here are the first four shades in this series:
Perfect fall shades, from left: Feisty, Tough, Creative and Edgy.
First up is Feisty. And this red wonder is so glossy, it’s blinding!
Feisty is a blood red creme bordering on a crelly. Only needs two coats, highly pigmented and glides on like a dream. She’s seriously breathtaking!
Next up is Creative. If you love purple with shimmer, this one’s for you!
Creative is the perfect name for this shimmery purple with it’s satiny finish. Note: I wanted you to see how nicely the Matte topcoat works and it’s on the pointer finger. The Shine topcoat is on the ring finger while the middle and pinky show you how it looks alone.
Want the perfect patent leather black? Here is Tough!
Tough is so shiny, I giggled! Love this perfect black.
Last is Edgy… a shimmery brown.
Edgy is a coffee bean brown with shimmer. Yum!
Mosi Mei says, “Mosi Mei is whoever you are, wherever you are, never defined by one style and always inspired by color, we think everyone is a Mosi Mei!” And MM lacquers come in a wide range of formulas and finishes including cremes, glitters, satins, metallics and effects. They “…make what we love, with love…because passion and creation are what we live for, no exceptions.” MM says they exist “to share our love for color and everything it does for the spirit.” I can’t agree more. Imagine a black and white world with no texture and color. Indeed, that my dears, is why we paint!
Some cool facts Candace told me about Mosi Mei! “Although we are fairly new we have been featured on Hautelook, and in Wantable boxes for a few different months, and have some press coming out in the coming months as well. We will be in quite a few subscription boxes next year and are excited about some retail locations we will soon announce.” I see big things for this amazing company. Indies rock!
Conclusion: I am thoroughly pleased so far with not only the nail treatments, but the range of shades, finishes, packaging and high quality formulas. The cremes are glossy as heck, and the formulas are excellent in every way. Easy to apply and fast to medium drying, 1-2 coats. What more can you as for?!

Today I’m sharing with you the first half of the Fall 2015 collection, “As a MATTEr of Fall” by indie cosmetics company, Jior Couture! It is a collection of 6 matte lacquers, all containing flakies. These perfect matte polishes I have today are: Scenic, Harvest and Frost. The whole collection will be available for purchase on Sept. 25th!
This is half of the “As a MATTEr of Fall” Collection by Jior Couture. Gorgeous velvety mattes that are easy to apply, perfect formulas! From left: Scenic, a dark blue matte with multicolored holo flakes. Harvest, a greenish leaning mustard yellow with holographic flakes. And Frost, a dark grey with holographic flakes, seem mostly aqua.
Let’s get a closer look at these beauties. Note, I swatched these using the 9 ml bottles. No problems with the minis (I’m not sure at this point if they will be released in this size but I had no issues with either the formulas or the full size brushes).
Scenic by Jior Couture is a beautiful dark blue denim shade with tiny holo flakes. Totally in love with this one, 2 coats. These dry fast and matte perfectly.Harvest is a greenish mustard yellow and frankly, I was worried about this shade with my complextion. But after applying it, I was really impressed! 1 coat!Frost is a gorgeous dark felt grey with holo flakes. The flakes don’t show up as much as the other two. Still gorgeous though. Perfect for sweater weather! 2 coats.
The remaining three shades that will be available in the As a MATTEr of Fall collex are: -Bonfire
-Foliage
-Migration
*The release date for The fall 2015 collection is Sept 25.
Conclusion: I’m seriously impressed with these matte polishes. Sometimes mattes can come off as a more satiny finish and not quite matte enough. These are full on mattes with a really velvety finish. So perfect for fall. Fast drying and sturdy.

I’m slowly getting back into the swing of things with my swatching and blogging. I managed to grab a few hours before the big move to swatch these and a few others. For some reason, my swatch “non-dominate” hand’s middle digit wants to keep chipping, just millimeters at a time, still frustrating! But now that all the packing, painting, etc is done for now and we are in Texas, my nails can breathe a sigh of relief and I can allow them to regain their original length. Sorry for the odd lengths. I couldn’t bare to trim them any further. 😉
I’m excited I got the Decades Collection July box, 1960, before we left. These three polish colors are wonderful for summertime. Let’s get right to the groovy images!
This month’s The Decades Collection box featuring the 1960s is far out! The in-your-face fuscia Tune In is a satiny fuscia neon. It dries matte but looks amazing alone or with topcoat. Same with the highlighter neon Turn On. It’s a brilliant 2-coater matte, and no white undies required. The purple/blue duochrome with brilliant blue flash shimmer makes this set complete, and oh, so glossy!
Let’s start with Tune In, a neon pink matte.
Tune In is one of those brilliant deep neon pinks that make you love, well, pink! Hard to tell by my photo here, but I put a coat of clear topcoat on the ring finger, but even matte, this color jumps off the nail.
Turn On is also matte, but it’s a brilliant neon yellow/green and I LOVE it! The photo makes it look more yellow, but on the nail it has a bit of green cast.
Turn On is a matte SUPER highlighter yellow/green that can make the most pale look tan! Wow, my camera couldn’t even handle the brightness. Great formula, no white undies needed.
And last but not least, Drop Out. This glossy duochrome is opaque in 2-3 coats, and oh my, that blue flash is crazy!
Drop Out is a fab duochrome purple/blue glossy with brilliant blue flashes. Two coats here!
Come back in August for my next SH post on the 08.15 collection, 1970s. They will most surely be trippy! They ship out on the 1st of the month!

When I chatted with indie polish brand Virago Varnish‘s owner/creator, Adrienne about her upcoming collection, I kept getting more and more excited. One, because her formulas and colors are awesome. Two, I knew ahead of time the glitters in this set would be beyond belief. I was right! I will add to that and echo her excitement that one of the glitters in the set came with an honor every indie polish maker dreams about. She says, “Virago is excited to announce this stunning lacquer Radiance. It will be gifted at GBK’s Celebrity Gift Lounge honoring the 2015 MTV Movie Awards Nominees and Presenters!” How cool is that?! I will start there after I show you the bottles! 🙂
4 fab glitter polishes. On top is Radiance and from L-R: Stellar, Allure and Glamorous.
I shot all the glitter polishes in full sun (and thank you Sun for appearing yesterday when I shot these!). Just for fun I did a gradient over a pale blue on the accent nail. This baby sure shines!I LOVE Radiance! It glows on your nail is sun or regular lighting. Radiance is described as, “Radiance couldn’t be a better fitting name for this lacquer. The holographic effect is so compelling that you’ll be staring at your nails all day. The holographic glitter in this lacquer is nostalgic of a 1960’s jacquard dinner dress.”
Who can resist a polish like Allure? Seriously smooth, like Glamorous and although no topcoat is require over these two coats, you could use that if you’re wanting to do stamping over this GORGEOUS holo glitter. I didn’t want to take it off!Allure is one of those holos you don’t want to take off. Did I mention it’s smooth as a baby’s “you-know-what”? Allure is described as, “Inspired by 1940s Old Hollywood, Allure does not disappoint. It’s like having a vintage sliver sequenced chiffon dress in a bottle. The holo in this lacquer is so intense that all eyes will be on your nails.” Opacity: Fully opaque in approximately 2-3 coats.
Ok, as I painted this one on I was seriously and immediately in love. Then it dried smooth and I was like, “whaaaa?” All that glitzyness and smooth as silk. I did a gradient over Majestic.Glamorous, all I can say is “WOW”! Also super smooth! Glamorous is described as, “Like a vintage 1950s black tulle Chantilly lace dress. Glamorous is a classy holographic micro-glitter lacquer in a black jelly base. The holo effect in this lacquer is mesmerizing.” Finish: Semi Matte, Micro-Glitter Opacity: Fully opaque in approximately 2-3 coats.
Stellar is right! And look at her over black, wow! It’s like holographic blue sugar!Stellar is such a gorgeous glitter and I love those little hints of purple. Stellar is described as, “Inspired by a 1950s flocked Chiffon dress, Stellar is a dazzling lacquer with various holographic micro-glitters in a clear base. As with all glitter lacquers from the Hollywood Glamour collection, Stellar also possesses intense holographic display.” Opacity: Fully opaque in approximately 2-3 coats.
Now on to the rest of the Hollywood Glamour collection with the other five elegant polishes. Each one destined to be award winning!
Five glorious formulas, from left: Elegance, Luxurious, Charisma, Majestic and Exclusive (which is a limited quantity you want to get your hands on!)
I will start with one that is very limited so you’re going to want to get your hands on this stunner Exclusive (maybe two?) before they are gone.
Well, Exclusive is named this for a reason. It’s a LTD polish, so you may want to order a couple!Exclusive is, oh my gosh, perfection! I can see why it’s name that. ONE COATER! Totally! Exclusive is described as, “Reminiscent of a 1940s champagne evening gown worn by old Hollywood’s best, Exclusive is a beautiful pearlescent lacquer. Only limited quantities of this lacquer are available. This lacquer will not be restocked.” Finish: Pearlescent, Semi-matte Opacity: Opaque in 1-2 coats
1-coater Charisma is satiny blue that is so classy. Pretty darn amazing! One of my faves of the bunch. Amazing on my nails! Charisma is described as, “If a vintage navy blue mesh silk chiffon dress was poured into a bottle it would be Charisma. Charisma is a gorgeous deep-navy blue nail lacquer that has glamour written all over it.” Finish: Metallic, Semi-matte Opacity: Opaque in 1-2 coats
Majestic is a shimmery metallic eggplant and opaque in 2 thin coats. It’s sure to be your next lemming!Majestic is a classic eggplant with a fab formula! Majestic is described as, “1939 has been known as Hollywood’s majestic year. Some of the most successful known films of all time were released in 1939. Majestic is an eggplant color nail lacquer inspired for a time when Hollywood was at its best. Majestic has a slight blue, pink, and light purple shimmer.” Finish: Metallic, Shimmer Opacity: Opaque in 1-2 coats
What a gorgeous transitional plum. Great for any season. This metallic only took 2 coats for me.Elegance in a bottle, oh yes, yes it is! Elegance is described as, “Inspired by the 1950s A-line swing dresses, Elegance is vivid plum colored lacquer that is graceful yet tantalizing.” Finish: Metallic Opacity: Opaque in 1-2 coats
Aptly named, Luxurious is also a 1-coater! This type of gold is a must have. And for that feel of the Golden Age of Luxurious living, this is not to be missed. Luxurious is described as, “Seeing that one gold satin dress on the red carpet screams luxury. Luxurious is a stunning metallic gold-bronze lacquer with a hint of sliver shimmer that is truly captivating.” Finish: Metallic, Shimmer Opacity: Opaque in 1-2 coats
The Hollywood Glamour collection will be released on March 6, 2015, just a few days away, so go start picking out your faves! Virago should be proud of this amazing collection.
I’d also add that the .45 oz bottles are great to display in their square bottles with matte caps. Easy to handle and the brushes are just perfect!

Things are finally settling down around here! We’ve already had our family Christmas party and all the family has gone home. So now I’m back to swatching and posting! You already know I love Squarehue, but this particular collection gets straight As.
Rovaniemi 12.14 collection from is a great Collection. Well done Squarehue! From the left, Joulupukin Pajakyla, Sampokeskus and Revontuli. This gorgeous shimmery red is Joulupukin Pajakyla from the Squarehue 12.14 Collection, Rovaniemi! The formula is perfect, two smooth buttery coats! Nail art on my ring finger was done using the two other shades from the collection, golden textured Sampokeskus and the evergreen shimmer matte is Revontuli.Another mani from the Squarehue 12.14 Collection, Rovaniemi! This golden textured polish is easy to use, and it’s called Sampokeskus. The formula is perfect, two very opaque, quick drying coats! Nail art on my ring finger was done using the two other shades from the collection, golden textured Sampokeskus and the evergreen shimmer matte is Revontuli. This matte green has a slight shimmer and it’s called Revontuli. The formula is again, perfect, one very opaque, quick drying coat!
I am over the moon happy with this collection. I can’t wait to see what’s coming our way in 2015 with the Decades Collections beginning in January.
