It may still be the dog days of summer in your neck of the woods, well, here too. But these hot temps have us dreaming of cozy fall polish collections, sweaters, and football games. Zoya hits it out of the park with the new Urban Grunge collection for Fall 2016. Twelve polishes in all with six cremes so rich and pigmented you’ll have to pinch yourself. And a mix of six sparklers, including two scattered holos, one linear holo, and three metallics. Be sure to order now, they ship on 8/19/2016. Let’s take a look!
Here are the swatches, starting with the metallics/holos!
And the cremes…
CONCLUSION: Every formula was perfect. The thinnest of the thicker cremes was August. My favorite shades of the cremes…a tossup between the deep reds of Tara and Courtney. In regards to the formulas of the metallics and holos, every single one was perfect. My faves were Merida, Finley and Ash. But don’t back me into a corner, I love them all!
Each of these are $10ea or $60 per set of 6.

Now that Spring is fully on deck, our nail lacquer lovers are seeking all things shiny and new. I can’t think of a better way to celebrate Spring than freshly painted nails. One of my fave indie nail brands, ILNP has two 2016 polish collection you’ll crave. A couple of weeks ago I posted my review on the ILNP Spring Jellies and today I’ll present the Spring Collection. Let’s start with a somewhat nude but fully holographic stunner, Apricot Cream.
Deja Vu is an intense linear holo, the best kind!
Rolling Hills, ahh, you can almost smell the dew on fresh-cut grass!
Sweet, petite and oh so feminine, Daisy Jane!
Major sparkle and long wearing Bulletproof Symphony.
Drop dead gorgeous over any nail color or alone, Mayfield.
Yes, big cities enjoy spring too! Here is Skyscraper.
Conclusion: Not to sound like a broken record. But I don’t know any more words I can say but this collection is a dream. From formula, to application, great wear and gorgeous shades and sparkle, ILNP Spring Collection is drop dead gorgeous!
What is your vegan/cruelty free policy? ILNP absolutely does not test our products on animals nor do we purchase materials from suppliers that do. We make a conscious effort to avoid purchasing animal/insect derived materials like carmine and guanine/pearl, etc. as there are plenty of synthetic alternatives that perform the same or even better.
Are your nail polishes 3-Free? Yes! All ILNP nail polishes are 3 free! They DO NOT contain Toluene, Formaldehyde, or Dibutyl Phthalate.
What does 3-Free mean? 3-Free means that our nail polishes do not contain Toluene, Formaldehyde, or Dibutyl Phthalate. These 3 ingredients were previously used in most nail polish formulations until recent studies found them to be potentially harmful or irritable to humans. While these chemicals aren’t illegal to use in nail polish (although California law requires special labeling if used), most large brands have already moved to 3-Free formulas at the urge of educated consumers as well as organizations that campaign for safe cosmetics.”

I’m telling you, Spell Polish never ceases to amaze me! Heather continues to create fabulous polishes and I’m so excited to share three of the Charlie Loves Bella collection for Spring 2015 with you…and now available for purchase. These magical polishes are all have different personalities, full of holographic goodness along with shimmer, flakies, duochrome casts and well, they’re magical!
What a wonderful collection to kick start your spring polish collections! Here is Bianca’s Whiskers:
I asked Heather to share the inspiration of how Charlie Loves Bella came to be. It’s inspired by a true story and written by Spell Polish owner/creator herself, Heather. She told me, “It’ based on a true story about my cat, Charlie and his love for rabbits.” Heather says that This collection is based on a true story about a cat that falls in love with a rabbit. All polishes come with a corresponding trade card- all 10 cards together tell the whole story of Charlie and Bella.
Here is the story of Charlie Loves Bella:
~Charlie Loves Bella~
Bella was a bunny and Charlie was a cat,
but Charlie didn’t know love doesn’t work like that.
So Charlie donned his slippers and sneaked away at night
looking for his Bella by the goldenrod moonlight.
He thought he’d bring her flowers- a hyacinth or two-
and serenade his Bella with a melody he knew.
When out of her small warren, he saw her whiskers peeking,
he knew he’d finally found the love that he was always seeking.
This was the radiant rabbit he spotted a few days before,
and followed through the woods, right to her bunny door.
Her fur was smooth and silken; her nose a velvet pink.
Her eyes were bright as stars, more lovely with each blink.
But Bella’s mother chided from inside that darkened hole,
and warned her lovely bunny not to stray and not to stroll.
“Cats can be quite dangerous with very dreadful habits,”
she reminded her sweet Bella that kitties aren’t for rabbits.
Who was this singing kitty who courted under the moon,
who made her heartbeat skip, and made her nearly swoon?
So early the next morning, Bella dressed for the affair
and followed Charlie’s footprints back to his secret lair.
She hid behind an oak tree in hopes of a better view,
then spied her star-crossed lover sitting under boughs of yew.
Delightful was his posture and flaxen were his locks.
Charlie was a kitty but he also was a fox!
She hip-hopped to her homestead, with extra bounce in her step.
She had to tell her sister about the kitty she had met.
But Bianca twitched her whiskers and crumpled up her nose,
“Bunnies cannot fall in love with kitties—everyone knows!”
But later that same evening, with daisies in his hat,
Charlie showed Bianca he was not an average cat.
He scampered through the forest, and shimmied up a tree,
courting the whole family by dropping daisies on all three.
Bella’s mom was startled and Bianca was confused
but Bella’s heart was tickled and her spirit was amused.
She loved a cat named Charlie and she didn’t care who knew.
So she blew him bunny kisses and she knew her love was true.
He jumped down from that pine tree and gave his Bella a wink,
then offered her his paw, their arms a furry link.
They took a springtime ramble off into the setting sun,
the story of Charlie and Bella was a tale that had just begun…

I have begun to notice that I have a pretty decent collection of holographic topcoats and polishes. Not tons, but a truckload! Reflecting on the brand families on my shelves, I have noticed I have quite a leaning towards the silver holo family. Recently I bought a lovely little number called Masked Affair from the Dark Sides of Grey collection by L’Oreal. I posted swatches yesterday on my Instagram feed. I pulled out all my holos (mainly linear) in the silver family and figured you might be interested in a comparison of the brands I personally own…or not 😉 But just for fun here they are. I might mention, I have linears in greens, gold, lavenders, purples and pinks. At some point I might do a smackdown of those too. First, here are the bottles shot in artificial light. It was cloudy, what can I say?! Then when I was almost done the sun came out but I did a comparison and they all looked the same in both types of light. I did not use my camera’s flash because honestly although it makes for a stunning effect on the nail, it doesn’t always represent a true to life image of what you and others see. We don’t go about using flashes of light to view someone’s polish. And…it makes my skin look like crap! LOL
Here are images I took of each polish (except for the Orly topcoat). The description and grading system is in the caption of each image.
I’d love to hear what you think about the holographic explosion. I love them, but I’m not always in love with the application. I’ve been pretty fortunate to find polishes that weren’t that challenging. Believe me, if I was bothered by a couple of them, I wouldn’t have purchased their sister colors. Have you tried any of these and what was your experience? I don’t often do comparison’s…because I’m a bit lazy and I’ll leave that to the more ambitious bloggers! 😉 I’d love to hear from you! In retrospect, to be a great holo, linear or otherwise, does not have to have an “in-yo-face” linear effect. It can be glossy (however it seems some glossy finishes can degrade the effect, some of them do). I like the ones that shout, “I’m here I’m here I’m here!” And I like the more timid ones that say, “Yeah, I’m shiny, so?” I just love the lil twinklers! Oh, and the prop under the finger! I almost forgot this but it’s an amazing nail balm by Sweet Baby. Link is below.
*The ILNP Mega was provided at an earlier date by the company for review. The Mentality and Sweet Baby nail balm were giveaway gifts. All the rest of the polishes mentioned were purchased by me. All opinions are my own from my own findings and I was not compensated in any way.
I’m so jazzed that I won blogger Kirby Hartline’s KBShimmer Giveaway. Thank you so much Kirby, aka The Mercurial Magpie. Yay, my first KBShimmer polish by owner Christy Rose! Her indie polishes are a legend.
I tried all week to capture the linear holo via the sunshine, but the weather would not cooperate. I’ll be editing this post at some point, after a ton of upcoming swatching I’m committed to, with an updated sunshiny photo. 😉 I apologize for this poorly lit photo, it doesn’t do it justice using only artificial light.
Goldie Rocks is described as a yellow gold metallic polish that in the sun or strong line has a linear holo sparkle that pops through. In the shade, this shimmery gold offers rich color with coverage in 2-3 coats. Retails for $8.75 and is part of KB Shimmer’s newly released Early Summer 2014 Collection.
This Linear Holographic is strong in the sun, blindingly so! It recommend 2-3 coats but I did fine with 2!
