Deborah Lippmann gift sets are perfect last-minute choices

First, I’d like to tell you all Merry Christmas and happy holidays! It’s been a busy time for us here at the Duncan household. We just moved in to our new house a week before Thanksgiving, had holiday company, then poor little ole me, been sick ever since. Good news is, I’m getting better and I managed somehow to decorate for Christmas. My strength is returning just in time!

Allow me to show you the Deborah Lippmann Undressed Collection LE (available now). I did a full review in October of the Undressed Collection and I can’t emphasize enough that these six perfect little bottles of naked nail nirvana are LE (Limited Edition). You’ll definitely want to get your hands on this cute gift pack for your polish loving friend, and get one for yourself while you are at it! SRP only $34 (a $72 value) Available online at http://www.deborahlippmann.com, and at Barney’s New York, Bloomingdale’s, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom and Sephora stores nationwide while supplies last. BONUS if you act now, purchase the Undressed Set at Deborahlippmann.com and receive a FREE ($12 value) Smooth Operator 4-way nail buffer. Shape, smooth, buff, shine—this multi-tasking buffer lays the groundwork for a perfect manicure and is also a tool for a quick fix for high-shine on the go without nail color. The extra gentle, micro fiber material is easy on the nails. Use the numbered sides of Smooth Operator as follows: 1. Gently shape nail tip. 2. Gently buff ridges on top of nail. 3. Smooth nail surface before applying base coat. 4. Buff to high-shine when you don’t want to wear nail polish. Do not buff to high-shine if you intend to paint your nails.

I love the festive and elegant packaging. This Undressed gift set includes: Flesh For Fantasy, Totally Nude, Born This Way, Bare It All, Natural Woman and Skin Deep.

I’d also like to share this fabulous trio that is, “Dependable. Gentle. Trustworthy.”! It’s the Deborah Lippmann Treat Me Right gift set (LE). Also available in same places as stated above, this SRP is $24 (a $36 value). More on that following the Undressed collection. So let’s revisit this adorable naked creme ensemble. Create the perfect canvas with this limited-edition set. These three must-have, best-selling treatments in fashion sizes give any at-home manicure a salon-professional look. Fashion sizes are 8 ml ea.

Here is a recap of swatches!

Flesh For Fantasy is described as alabaster nude. Naturally, it's gorgeous on any skin tone but I am loving it for my neutral pale skin tone!

Skin Deep is described as sable nude. A statement shade for we who are palefaces, and simply perfect for gorgeous darker skinned beauties.

The set is described as: “The perfect nude nail is at your fingertips…in six all new elegant shades. Our set of 6 full coverage fashion shades flatter any skin tone, creating a graceful, polished (no pun intended) look. From work to weekend, looking natural has never been so glam.” DL also states, “…Contrary to the nudes of the past, there is no one-shade fits all proposition; Deborah expertly developed each color to flatter any skin tone for a graceful, polished look.”

The Treat Me Right gift set includes 3 fashion size bottles for your nail treatments. They include from left: All About That Base CC Base Coat, Cuticle Oil and Addicted to Speed Super Quick-Drying Top Coat.
The Treat Me Right gift set includes 3 fashion size bottles for your nail treatments. They include from left: All About That Base CC Base Coat, Cuticle Oil and Addicted to Speed Super Quick-Drying Top Coat.

I can tell you, All About That Base (is 7-free) not only acts as a corrector and concealer (great for yellowed nails), it provides an amazing base to keep your painted nails looking their tip-top best longer. The Cuticle Oil is a necessity for all well-groomed fingertips and the Addicted to Speed Super Quick-Drying Top Coat provides a high shine option while protecting your mani from smears, smudges and scratches. Everything you need at home for a salon-pro look.

I still hold the same Conclusion! I love the shades and finish of this set. I found a slight difference in the formulas. Although all are fully pigmented and each shade took 2 coats, I found the darker 3 polishes formulas to be better than the paler 3. I don’t think it’s my imagination as I’ve swatched many collections and sometimes because of the shade, it’s just going to HAVE to be different in application due to pigments. The first three shades, Flesh For Fantasy, Totally Nude and Born This Way were thicker and took a bit more finesse to apply without streaks on first coat, let fully dry then apply second. Second coats self levels and dried fully opaque and glossy. The last three (darker shades), Bare It All, Natural Woman and Skin Deep, were thinner (not thin) and struck a perfect balance of opacity and smooth application. Glossy on finish and great to apply. I had no trouble with the brushes in these petites, as they are full size brushes. Favorite shades were Bare It All and Skin Deep.

Zoya MatteVelvet Winter/Holiday collection

Today I’ll be reviewing the new (and available now) Zoya MatteVelvet Winter/Holiday 2015 collection. Let me preface by saying that these shades are completely different than the last collection…in case you were wondering! Zoya says, “The best-selling, MATTEVELVET finish returns this holiday season with six new shades. Each nail polish perfectly opaque, matte color with that extra special ZOYA MATTEVELVET fleck finish everyone loves.” Let’s take a look at what you’ll be wanting!

The Zoya MatteVelvet nail colors to slip into this Winter/Holiday season. From left: Aspen, Amal, Honor, Iris, Sue and Yves.
The Zoya MatteVelvet nail colors to slip into this Winter/Holiday season. From left: Aspen, Amal, Honor, Iris, Sue and Yves.

I’ll start with Aspen. She’s a clean, crisp, snowy white with the prettiest diamond pearl fleck. So hard to capture but believe me, she’s gorgeous!

Aspen, 2 coats, is described as: Aspen (ZP814) - a sparkling arctic white with a micronized diamond pearl fleck.

Next is Amal, a classic crimson ruby-red. So perfect for the holidays!

Amal, 2 coats, is described as: Amal (ZP816) – a classic crimson red with a ruby-red pearl fleck.

Honor is one of those essential greens for your holiday nailwear!

Honor, 2 coats, is described as: Honor (ZP819) - a true emerald-green with a tone on tone emerald pearl fleck.

Iris is the perfect name for this regal amethyst purple.

Iris, 2 coats, is described as: Iris (ZP817) - a deep amethyst with a fuchsia pearl fleck.
Iris, 2 coats, is described as: Iris (ZP817) – a deep amethyst with a fuchsia pearl fleck.

Sue, she’s a delicate champagne gold with oyster pearl fleck. The sheerest of the bunch, so 2-3 coats will do the trick.

Sue, 2 coats, is described as: Sue (ZP815) - a soft champagne gold with a multi-hued oyster shell pearl fleck.
Sue, 2 coats, is described as: Sue (ZP815) – a soft champagne gold with a multi-hued oyster shell pearl fleck.

And last is Yves. A deep sapphire blue.

Yves, 1-2 coats, is described as: Yves (ZP818) - a deep sapphire that's midway in between indigo and royal blue with a blue pearl fleck.
Yves, 1-2 coats, is described as: Yves (ZP818) – a deep sapphire that’s midway in between indigo and royal blue with a blue pearl fleck.

Conclusion: I always love the MatteVelvets and these shades for 2015 are all gorgeous. I can’t pick a favorite! But I DO love how Yves and Iris look on me. I want you to know they are all easy to apply and fairly quick drying. You can (although Zoya advises against it, see below) apply a gloss topcoat for a shiny look and it really brings out the hidden treasures of sparkle within. They suggest to apply a thin coat of the Matte Velvet Topcoat to retain the velvety appearance. They also suggest no base coat is needed. I will have to mention that I did leave Yves (the deep blue) on my bare nails overnight and experienced slight staining. That will go away, but I think a base coat on this one would have not allowed stains. Do not let this minor issue steer you away from experiencing lovely Yves!

NOTE: MATTEVELVET nail color by Zoya is not intended to be worn with a base coat, glossy top coat or speed dryer. Due to the unique matte formulation, color is not as long-wearing as traditional nail color. A completely clean, dry surface yields the best results for matte nail color wear. To extend wear, apply one coat of the Zoya Matte Velvet Topcoat over your favorite matte shades after polish is completely dry. AVAILABLE NOW!

CND Vinylux Holiday 2015 AURORA Collection

I have the good fortune of blogging for RPR Marketing. They promote CND salon products including their long-wearing Weekly Polish System and even longer-wearing Shellac. I’m rarely disappointed in Vinylux collections and always welcome their arrival! Today I’ll be sharing the new CND Vinylux Holiday 2015 Aurora collection.

As CND so eloquently states, “Discover the beauty of the Arctic tundra with the NEW Holiday 2015 Aurora collection from CND. Colors crystallize into shimmering frozen pastels and surreal glacial hues. This holiday season, nail trends capture a crystalline essence with icy, glistening finishes,” says CND Co-founder and Style Director Jan Arnold. “Shapes range from the elegantly slender almond to a naturally subtle square, with shimmer that evokes the glint of sun setting across the snow.”

Let’s take a look at these four frozen beauties! First up is Winter Glow.

Winter Glow, a cream pastel pink in a perfect creamy formula. 3 coats for full opacity. Now this is a perfect blushing pink!

And from that glisteny spectrum of colors in the night, Nordic Lights.

This pink is a throwback to my younger days of frosty pastel pinks, Tundra.

Tundra, a delicate dusty rose metallic. Not too bad for streaking as some metallics will do. 2 coats here. Not my favorite, beautiful polish, great formula. But I wore so many polishes like this in my teens. Did I just date myself?!

And no winter collection is complete without a frost cool blue stunner, Glacial Mist.

Conclusion: I really like this collection. My favorite of the collection is Nordic Lights. I’m a sucker for plumy purples, jelly bases and holo! And frosty pale pinks are pretty, but sort of old school. I’d have like to have seen a near black/blue jelly with tiny holo sparkles instead. Sort of like the midnight sky with lights twinkling. But that’s just me. All the formulas were great! Just a little hiccup and I’m sure a very rare anomaly, I did have one funky brush…and a solution should you encounter one with any polish.

Had a bit of an issue with the brush from Glacial Mist. Very rare finding in CND brushes. You see here I wiped off most of the wet polish from the brush, but even fully loaded with polish those little buggers wanted to poke out everywhere. Easy fix, cuticle scissors are better used to fix wonky brushes than cutting precious cuticles!

This mani is Shamrockin’ using shades from Cult Cosmetics!

St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner and what better way to celebrate than with a bit ‘o the Irish feel than with a Shamrockin’ mani?! Now, I have to admit, I don’t have a drop of Irish in me. Not that I know of. But most of us have grown up celebrating the day anyway. I did some simple nail art using a dotting tool for some rudimentary shamrocks. I used a fine lining brush for the rainbow and added a few dots of gold to complete the look. No blarney, I did it in 15 minutes! Let’s take a look.

The mani at the end of the rainbow! Here is a cute nail art idea for you for your St. Patrick's Day mani. I used 2 coats of that pale minty green Venice Beach, 2 coats of Palos Verde and the gold accents I used the gold micro glitter bomb polish (not a glitter topper, a polish, called Whiskey A Go Go by Cult Cosmetics.
