A Zoya Candy Corn mani

Happy October 1st! Bring on the candy! 😉 And speaking of candy…I’ve been wanting to create a candy corn mani this month but unsure which polishes I’d use. So there I sat this morning in front of my polish shelves (yes shelves, don’t judge) and pondered. My eyes fell upon a row of Zoya Pixie Dusts and the light came on. It’s almost like those bottles of Pixie goodness glowed to get my attention. Okay, that might be a little dramatic, but I was pretty excited with my vision 😉

Halloween worthy mani, candy corn, just not the edible kind.

I settled on using Solange for the yellow, Dhara for the orange and a coat of Cosmo over white for the candy corn nails.

Solange is as described as a gold metal foil sparkle featuring a Zoya EXCLUSIVE GOLD PIGMENT in the best-selling Zoya PixieDust Textured, Matte, Foil Twinkle formula. Dahra is described as a firey orange copper with a matte, textured, sparkling metal finish. Cosmo, a Magical Pixie Dust, is described as a silver crystal sparkle, textured PixieDust with mega hex iridescent particles.

A little history about candy corn you may not know! Candy corn, the little yellow, orange, and white treat has it’s root dating back more than a century. It is said that a candy maker, George Renninger, of the renowned Wunderlee Candy Company in Philadelphia, invented the tri-color confection in the 1880s. The Goelitz Confectionery Company brought the candy to the everyone at the turn of the 20th century. The Jelly Belly Candy Co., now owns that company and has the longest history in the industry of making candy corn, and it still uses the original recipe. There are of course other companies who make candy cone, but with varied ingredients.

Get your Pixie dusts at Zoya.com or Ulta Stores and see what you can create!

The products used were all purchased by me and all opinions are my own.

Frighteningly fun collection “Fall for FLL” from Finger Lickin’ Lacquer!

WARNING: Image heavy! 😉 When the owner/creator of the indie polish company, Finger Lickin’ Lacquer, shared the names and descriptions of the soon-to-be-released Fall collection, Fall for FLL, I was already conjuring up ideas for how I would photograph all nine. I have to tell you, the fragrance descriptions are spot on and there are six of the nine in this set that will make you crave those Autumn flavors.

The Fall for FLL Collection, from left: Apple Tart, Bonfire Night, Cranberry Cosmos, Fair Enchantress, Harvest Moon; Mauvelous, Dahling!, Poison Apple, Pumpking, in front Spoopy.

First up is Apple Tart. Two easy coats, awesome formula, smells so good, seriously good!

I love the scattered Holo in this. Gorgeous in the sunlight!

Apple Tart is descibed as "a bright red scattered holographic polish that brings to mind chilly nights at the carnival with candied apples, or brisk fall days spent up at the local apple orchard picking apples and stopping in for some warm apple cider and maybe an apple cider doughnut too. It is scented with an apple tart fragrance."

Next is Bonfire Night. Two coats, great formula, glossy like the rest. Very holographic!

Bonfire Night smells sooo yummy! And I guarantee it's a sparkler!

Bonfire Night is descibed as "a navy blue intensely holographic polish with a mulled cider fragrance. This polish was intended to mimic a clear night sky with all the stars twinkling – a perfect night to have a bonfire and spend time with friends and family, drinking from mugs of cider and keeping warm by the fire."

I LOVE this juicy Cranberry Cosmos. Sounds like a sparkling drink doesn’t it? The scent is delish.

Juicy and a great formula as well.

Cranberry Cosmos is descibed as "a cranberry intensely holographic polish with the sweet and tart fragrance of cranberry relish. This polish has all of the sparkle and shimmer of the cosmos packed into a beautiful cranberry red that is perfect for Thanksgiving dinner."

I’m so smitten with Fair Enchantress. Two coats is all you need and it even looks great with a matte topcoat like I did here on the ring finger.

I think it's FAIR to say this stunner is my fave in this beautiful collection!

Fair Enchantress is descibed as "a plum crelly with copper and gold hex glitters that started off as a custom for a dear friend. She and I fell so in love with this polish that we agreed to release it with the fall collection. Fair Enchantress is one of three unscented polishes in the fall collection."

Here is a bottle macro of Fair Enchantress to tempt you even more.

Fair Enchantress is enchanting!

Harvest Moon is a warm yellow…and it’s the sheerest of the set. I used three coats here and tested it with one coat over white on the ring finger. That brightens it up but if you want the warmer look, try 3-4 coats over the bare nail. It’s easy to apply, and really sparkles in the sun.

Harvest Moon is a nice transitional yellow. Not too bright, but still sparkles.

Harvest Moon is descibed as "a brilliant mustard yellow scattered holographic polish. Its color is perfect for fall – it’s a match for the changing leaves and it’s perfect for going to hay rides and corn mazes. Harvest Moon is the second of three unscented polishes in the fall collection."

This is not your granny’s mauve…no ma’am! Mauvelous, Dahling! is sultry yet has enough sparkle for the party.

A smoky and sexy mauve, Mauvelous, Dahling! is a feisty winner!

No need to be afraid of this Poison Apple! It smells divine, and even has some spooky fun black skulls and crossbones within.

This sparkler is also sheer. 3 coats on the bare nail as I did here. 2 if you paint it on thicker but I prefer to layer it on thin.

Poison Apple is descibed as "a granny smith green polish with red-to-gold flakes and a spooky surprise – skull and crossbone glitters lurking just beneath the surface. Poison Apple has a tart green apple fragrance."

This Pumking is a glorious pumpkin shade and a great formula. Misused two coats here.

Pumking is one of those orange shades I can wear with or without a tan!

And last is the party polish of the bunch, Spoopy! And oh my gosh, it smells like a bag of Halloween candy! Opaque in 2-3 coats, or one over black. I used one coat over a coat of Bonfire Night.

This glitter filled party in a bottle of black crelly screams Halloween!

Spoopy is descibed as "a fun black crelly with hex glitters in orange, purple, yellow, and green. Spoopy is so named because of a fun post on Tumblr featuring misspelled Halloween decorations. It was silly and took on a life of its own, and this polish is very much the same – Spoopy’s the perfect fun Halloween polish, especially with its sweet candy corn fragrance."

Yup, you have to see it closeup! 😉
