Born Pretty Gel, Foils and Oil!

Well, this was a fun package I received in the mail today. Some gorgeous gel polishes, shimmers and Cat Eye, a dozen metallic foils and some tropical scented cuticle oil. Every single item is a winner. Let’s take a look!

First, a denim blue frosty Magnetic Cat Eye gel polish, BP 05. I thought it was going to be more of a midnight blue, but this works for me! Applied over black gel polish to really make it stand out. It is item #41515

BP 05 Magnetic Cat Eye Gel is a gorgeous deep denim blue, here I used a round magnet for this special effect. Cure after applying magnet and voila!

How about a lovely golden shimmer and red shimmer duo from Born Pretty’s Soak Off Gel Polish line?! Perfect together at a great price. This is item BP Soak Off Gel polish set #41492.

A 2-pack of BORN PRETTY Red Sparkle Gel and Gold Holographic Glitter Soak Off Nail Gel Polish. A beautiful duo!

I am SO loving these super thin, easy to apply nail foil, gold leaf variations, gold, silver, and two oil slick variations. 12 pots and a tiny bit goes a LONG way! I applied them over BP 05 Cat Eye gel! Item #3966

Set pf 12 Nail Art Foil in Gold, Silver, oil slick red/orange/gold/teal and oil slick gold/red/orange/fuscia Set! Easy to apply over nail polish then top coat, or over any stick layer then top coat with gel as I did here over BP Cat Eye Gel BP 05. Item # 3966

And last but not least, an amazing cuticle oil pen, item #39329 in the scent of Coconut and man it smells amazing. Not fake or plasticky, but like real coconut. It isn’t overly oily, but feels just right. It also comes in Pineapple, Peach, Lavender and Almond.

An amazing Nail Cuticle Oil 2ml Fruit or Flower scented, in a handy metallic pen. I used Coconut here and it smells amazing, not too shiny either so great for photographing nail swatches. I am loving this stuff!

Tahitian Sun polishes adds sparkle to your fingers and toes!

Two sparkling summertime metallics from Tahitian Sun. Metallic Silver and Metallic Gold. Those bottles!!!!

Okay, I’m a sucker for flashy polish bottles and Tahitian Sun custom polishes really hit home with my beach lovin’ heart with their sandy bottle tops with real starfish embellishments. Wow!

Tahitian Sun went full on with creativity and the beachy tropical theme reflects as well with the bottles and caps. I love the sandy lids with a real mini starfish on top!

And now for the fun part. Here are two of their sparkling metallics. Metallic Silver and Gold. And a luscious berry shade, Raspberry.

Tahitian Sun Metallic Silver is a silver glitter metallic Nail Polish in a super opaque metallic finish, 0.5 fl oz / 15ml bottle with flat brush and 2 inch sand-like cap topped with a mini starfish. 1-2 coats of this sparkler!

Tahitian Sun Metallic Gold is a sparkly gold Nail Polish in a glitter metallic finish, 0.5 fl oz / 15ml bottle with flat brush and 2 inch sand-like cap topped with a mini starfish. I used 3 smooth coats here.

Gorgeous Tahitian Sun Raspberry! 2-3 coats, here is two. I also added a gel-like top coat. There is a slightly textured glossy finish due to the ton of holo within. A good heavy duty topcoat will smooth that right out.

Tahitian Sun Raspberry is a heavy holo raspberry red in a jelly-like raspberry base.

Toxic Free Ingredients (5-FREE)
All of our products contain “No Toluene, Dibutyl Phthalat, Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin, or Camphor”. We take pride in being a toxic 5-Free alternative.
Toluene. The least harmful of the toxic trio, toluene is a volatile organic compound (VOC) that is found in paints, thinners, and inks. Despite giving nail polish its ability to dry quickly, toluene is still a harmful chemical. The ingredient is also classified by the California Department Of Public Health Occupational Health Branch California Safe Cosmetics Program as cancer-causing.
Dibutyl phthalate (DBP). DBP is a carcinogen found in paints, plastics, and pesticides that stops nail polish from being brittle. It is classified by the European Union as a suspected endocrine disrupter and Health Canada has linked it to liver and kidney failure in children.
Formaldehyde. Similar to DBP, formaldehyde is also classified as a known human carcinogen by The International Agency for Research on Cancer. It allows nail polish to harden and chip less, but can lead to fatigue, skin irritation, and immune dysfunction in users.
Formaldehyde resin. While similar to formaldehyde, no link between cancer and formaldehyde resin has been found. The resin helps strengthen nails, but is a skin allergen and immune system toxicant that can cause dermatitis.
Camphor. Camphor is created by distilling the bark of a camphor tree. Although natural, inhaling or having large exposure to camphor can be toxic, create irritation, and cause seizures in children.

Madam Glam Chrome Mirror Pigments for shine that is Out-of-This-World

Madam Glam Chrome Mirror Pigment powders aptly named after planets and other heavenly bodies sparkle and shine! This cast of characters come in seven shades and I have four to share with you today. And as a bonus, I will also share with you a shiny red gel polish that will make heads turn! Let’s take a look.

I am loving Pluto Chrome Mirror Pigment Powder by Madam Glam, swatched here over white for a pearly finish that glows pale green in different angles along with pale pink. But over black as seen on the accent nail, boom! An emerald foil finish!

Pluto is one of 7 of the newest Chrome Mirror pigment powders by Madam Glam. Each pot is a generous 5 grams and comes with instructions and a nice pink metallic applicator. Pluto is described as, “…green with blue undertone” and suggested to go over a black gel polish cured with a no wipe top coat, but you may also use it over regular polish with a water based top coat over and under the powder!

Venus Chrome Mirror Pigment Powder by Madam Glad over black. The MG store describes it as a light blue but on me at least seemed a darker blue over black gel polish. I think if it was swatched over a white or pale blue it would be a lot lighter but it’s gorgeous here!

Madam Glam’s Chrome Mirror Powder in Jupiter. Here it is swatched over a nude gel polish which gives it a soft golden glow! Can be swatched over any color though, black will give a dramatic effect while pale shades result in anything from a white gold to rosy gold mirror shine.

Here is the bonus swatch of Quite Olive gel polish! She’s a fabulous red gel polish with tons of shimmer. I wore it all Christmas weekend!

Quite Olive by Madam Glam is described as, “Sparkly red with a hint of orange.
This color was inspired by the gorgeous Kalamata olives. Nothing makes red wine more delicious than some good olives and a gorgeous manicure.” Here she is in 3 coats. It’s a perfect pimento shimmer for a holiday mani!

Quite Olive is a red jelly like shiner and as a soak-off gel polish, I recommend 3 coats for full coverage. But wow, it’s shiny and stunning.

CONCLUSION: All three formulas are royally perfect. My favorite is Single Ladies, because well, I’m a sucker for rich red cremes. Formula is a bit thin but manageable. For a truly gilded nail, Crowning Moment is supreme. I am not normally drawn to pearly polishes, but I do love me some fancy rose gold, offered up by Chalice in the Palace. Three stunning lacquers from Mosi Mei

Indie polishes by Mosi Mei are quickly becoming one of my favorites. The formulas have consistently been top-notch in application and wearability. There are so many shades to choose from, fabulous packaging and even the clean, easy to navigate website is so professional. Now with that out-of-the-way, let’s check out three more MM shades!

Zoya MatteVelvet Winter/Holiday collection

Today I’ll be reviewing the new (and available now) Zoya MatteVelvet Winter/Holiday 2015 collection. Let me preface by saying that these shades are completely different than the last collection…in case you were wondering! Zoya says, “The best-selling, MATTEVELVET finish returns this holiday season with six new shades. Each nail polish perfectly opaque, matte color with that extra special ZOYA MATTEVELVET fleck finish everyone loves.” Let’s take a look at what you’ll be wanting!

The Zoya MatteVelvet nail colors to slip into this Winter/Holiday season. From left: Aspen, Amal, Honor, Iris, Sue and Yves.

I’ll start with Aspen. She’s a clean, crisp, snowy white with the prettiest diamond pearl fleck. So hard to capture but believe me, she’s gorgeous!

Aspen, 2 coats, is described as: Aspen (ZP814) – a sparkling artic white with a micronized diamond pearl fleck.

Next is Amal, a classic crimson ruby-red. So perfect for the holidays!

Amal, 2 coats, is described as: Amal (ZP816) – a classic crimson red with a ruby red pearl fleck.

Honor is one of those essential greens for your holiday nailwear!

Honor, 2 coats, is described as: Honor (ZP819) – a true emerald green with a tone on tone emerald pearl fleck.

Iris is the perfect name for this regal amethyst purple.

Iris, 2 coats, is described as: Iris (ZP817) – a deep amethyst with a fuchsia pearl fleck.

Sue, she’s a delicate champagne gold with oyster pearl fleck. The sheerest of the bunch, so 2-3 coats will do the trick.

Sue, 2 coats, is described as: Sue (ZP815) – a soft champagne gold with a multi-hued oyster shell pearl fleck.

And last is Yves. A deep sapphire blue.

Yves, 1-2 coats, is described as: Yves (ZP818) – a deep sapphire that’s midway in between indigo and royal blue with a blue pearl fleck.

Conclusion: I always love the MatteVelvets and these shades for 2015 are all gorgeous. I can’t pick a favorite! But I DO love how Yves and Iris look on me. I want you to know they are all easy to apply and fairly quick drying. You can (although Zoya advises against it, see below) apply a gloss topcoat for a shiny look and it really brings out the hidden treasures of sparkle within. They suggest to apply a thin coat of the Matte Velvet Topcoat to retain the velvety appearance. They also suggest no base coat is needed. I will have to mention that I did leave Yves (the deep blue) on my bare nails overnight and experienced slight staining. That will go away, but I think a base coat on this one would have not allowed stains. Do not let this minor issue steer you away from experiencing lovely Yves!

NOTE: MATTEVELVET nail color by Zoya is not intended to be worn with a base coat, glossy top coat or speed dryer. Due to the unique matte formulation, color is not as long-wearing as traditional nail color. A completely clean, dry surface yields the best results for matte nail color wear. I love the range in this collection…from earthy to glitzy, you can’t go wrong with any of them. Let’s take a peek!

She Wolf isn’t as shy as you might think for a taupe natural polish. She’s glossy and so easy to apply, you’ll think your cheating!

She Wolf is a dreamy creamy 2-coat formula. A gorgeous taupe for fall!

SHE WOLF, full coverage taupe (crème).

Respect demands all eyes on her. Nothing beats a great red and this one has an edge.

You have to give props to Respect! It’s a sexy red, but this 2-coater is highly pigmented and buttery smooth to apply.

RESPECT, full coverage brick red (crème).

Miss Independent is outstanding and stands up to be noticed.

I love a great berry shade and Miss Independent is perfect in every way. 2 coats.

MISS INDEPENDENT, full coverage berry wine (crème).

Can’t Be Tamed is a wild one with its gold glitter and sweet honey base.

Can’t Be Tamed is gorgeous with its tiny gold and bits of holo glitters in a honey jelly base. One coat is great as a gradient topper (here over Miss Independent) or only 2 coats for a full coverage mani.

CAN’T BE TAMED, full coverage honey gold (glitter).

Conclusion: I’ve never been disappointed with any DL polish I’ve used. I highly recommend each one of these. The cremes are a joy to apply, highly pigmented and all 2-coaters. The glitter, Can’t Be Tamed may seem timid upon the first coat, but totally becomes opaque with the 2nd. Love all four of these!
