Born Pretty Store swatches to share!

I have received a few items from the Born Pretty Store, and since they were arriving separately in my mailbox, I wanted to wait until they all arrived and post them all together. So I have quite a selection of items for nail art so grab a coffee and have a seat. Here we go!

I’ll start with the best…and work down 😉 Yeah, some were what I call “close” but no cigar. At least not for me. I think my favorite item from this menagerie was the Cat Eye Gel polish. It came with a special magnet that you hold over the polish before its cured, creating a mesmerizing cat eye effect. Now I want it in every color! I give this one 5 stars because the magnet was easy to use, the gel had a good strong amount of magnetics to create a stunning look. Color is BP-08 Jade Cat Eye.

Here is Born Pretty Professional UV & LED Soak Off Color Coat gel polish, Cat Eye in the color Jade. 2 coats.

And to follow-up, here is the same Cat Eye Gel BP-08 Jade with a BP gel holo flakes top coat #03 on top! Love this!

BP gel topper 03 over Jade cat eye gel, BP-08.

You know I absolutely love flakies and powder pigments. They are so transforming and really perk up a mani. First, here some holo flakies in BP 39677, a silver holo.

BP 39677 holo flakies are easy to work with. Can be used over regular polish, mixed into a sheer color, topped with water base top coat or used with gel polish.

And a great silver flakies powder, not to be confused with the super fine metallic chrome pigments, but a bit chunkier. These can be used loose, or burnished in (rubbed into a waterbase top coat or gel no wipe top coat) You’re only limited by your imagination. Go chunky and sparse or rub in a lot! BP silver flakies powder BP 39745.

Her is another pretty gel top coat with holo flakies in color #BP 01 over a rusty red!

This one gets an A for what it could have been. The gradient from red to purple/pink is gorgeous! Nail Foil papers are not for the faint of heart. It takes patience, and I have to admit I’ve worked with better. This one gave me a run for my money and would NOT rub in smoothly, but rather created more of a burnished metallic look. Still pretty, but I have hope for a more fluid look. BP nail foil redpink 38895.

BP nail foil redpink 38895 over a burgundy nail polish.

I had such high hopes for this nail art stamping plate. (BP stamping plate L015) You know of love cats, and this one definitely needs more practice, or maybe the etched images are not etched deep enough. I tried several different polishes that I KNOW have worked great in the past with other plates. Nope, none of them worked right and only gave me partial stamped images. I think this is one of those plates that really does need stamping polish to perform. And those cats are so dang cute! I seriously wanted to sling this plate across the room! LOL But I mushed on. Finally I decided to try a black gel polish and that worked but looked somewhat blurry. But hey. I’m not here to sing the praises of every product I test. This one, cute but I’d give it’s performance 2 stars out of 5. That makes me sad. I’m not finished with it yet. I’ll keep trying because hey, it’s full of cats! LOL

A silvery trio from SquareHue Decades Collection

The silvery trio from SquareHue’s Decades Collection, 2000 for 11.15. From left: Never Forget 2001, Idol 2002, Hurricane 2005.

I especially love this month’s installment of the Decades collection from polish subscription company, SquareHue. The collection focuses on the decade of 2000s, and this silvery trio commemorates a couple of key memories the whole world shares in one way or another. Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and the terrorist attacks of 9/11/01. A bright light that helped ease the pain of those times was Idol, a program that allowed us to keep our mind off a changing world. And as I pen this entry tonite, the world has been put on alert once again. Unfolding as we speak, terrorist attacks have occurred all around Paris, France. Never Forget is still on our tongues. But I don’t write this to bring you down and rekindle painful memories. I mention it because we can’t forget we don’t live in a perfect world and we can’t bury our heads in the sand. And we must continue on and hold our heads up high. We can be positive and be kind, helpful, hopeful. There is still a lot of beauty in this world. We appreciate companies like SquareHue. Not only do they bring beauty and color into the world. They contribute daily to the rescue of trafficked and kidnapped individuals. That is hope my friends.

Let’s take a look at this month’s polishes!

Never Forget 2002, is a silver foil metallic one-coater. It dries to a satiny finish. I applied two lines of Hurricane to represent the Twin Towers.

Two more NEW additions to the ILNP Ultra Chrome Flaky line!

Well, I’m down to six ILNP Ultra Chrome Flakies to review for you, and they are available for pre-order now as of this date, 3/13/15. Today I’ll share a pair of new flakies to tempt you. Paradox and Paradox (H)! ILNP Ultra Chrome Flakies are fully opaque and can be worn alone or over any color without affecting the intense color shifting properties. Here is a sneak peak (I previously posted) of the new lineup of polishes from ILNP for spring 2015.

Ultra Chrome Flakies (H) You know ILNP (I Love Nail Polish) LOVES polish when they can create such massive collections! Each one a winner.

Ultra Chrome Flakies (H) You know ILNP (I Love Nail Polish) LOVES polish when they can create such massive collections! Each one a winner.

First up is Paradox. ILNP says, “Paradox is an absolute jaw-dropping beauty of a nail polish!” I agree!

Brand new in the lineup is Paradox.

Brand new in the lineup is Paradox.

ILNP describes Paradox like this. "If Supernova was a little bit too green for you, Paradox is the answer! Just like Supernova, Paradox has an extreme color shift that travels through teal, blue, violet, pink, and fuchsia. Of course, you'll definitely catch glimpses of other colors at extreme angles and under different lighting conditions. You'll love it, guaranteed!" This is three thin coats with no undies.

Can’t have too many views, but here’s another.

This is three thin coats over the bare nail. Honestly, I'd have to show you a dozen shots to convey how many shades are possible with this amazing new flaky polish.

And its even blingier sister, Paradox (H). Paradox (H) is a holographic version of the original Paradox Ultra Chrome Flakie nail polish!

Brand new to the UCF (H) lineup is Paradox (H).

The new Paradox (H) contains just the right amount of holographic splendor to add a beautiful rainbow sparkle to the polish. All without ruining the intense color shift effect!

Don’t be left out of the new 2015 lineup of polishes from ILNP! You’ll want these in your hot little hands asap.

What is your vegan/cruelty free policy?
ILNP absolutely does not test our products on animals nor do we purchase materials from suppliers that do. We make a conscious effort to avoid purchasing animal/insect derived materials like carmine and guanine/pearl, etc. as there are plenty of synthetic alternatives that perform the same or even better.

Are your nail polishes 3-Free?
Yes! All ILNP nail polishes are 3 free! They DO NOT contain Toluene, Formaldehyde, or Dibutyl Phthalate.

What does 3-Free mean?
3-Free means that our nail polishes do not contain Toluene, Formaldehyde, or Dibutyl Phthalate. These 3 ingredients were previously used in most nail polish formulations until recent studies found them to be potentially harmful or irritable to humans. While these chemicals aren’t illegal to use in nail polish (although California law requires special labeling if used), most large brands have already moved to 3-Free formulas at the urge of educated consumers as well as organizations that campaign for safe cosmetics.”

More gorgeous swatches from Madam Glam

I am so excited to share these next four lovely polishes from the indie brand, Madam Glam. As I was pondering our next season’s color trends, I figured why not set my sights in that direction with some of the more autumn-like shades.

Madam glam polishes from left: Silver Sands, More Wine Please, Over Glam and Family Secret.

Madam glam polishes from left: Silver Sands, More Wine Please, Over Glam and Family Secret.

First is Silver Sand…Silver Sand is very much the same kind of formula as Family Secret/ Pretty much mistake proof. A shimmery pewter heavily flecked with tons of super micro silver shimmer.

Silver Sand is described as, "A glittery metal."

Silver Sand is described as, “A glittery metal.”

Next we have More Wine Please…More Wine Please is a gorgeous glossy red that has vamp written all over it. Slightly on the thin side but highly pigmented. Just avoid flooding the brush and you’ll do just fine. Two coats and you’ll be on your way to a mani that looks like you dipped your digits in a fine bordeaux.

More Wine Please is described as, "A rich red cherry. Forever stylish and devilish, a very luxurious dark red that creates an outstanding sexy mani."

I am smitten with Over Glam…I will never get over this stunner and from the first coat I was in love with this nearly foil like finish. It’s a pretty pink micro glitter (but all these are a breeze to remove, not like regular glitters) that shines like nobody’s business in the sun. So I included a photo here to show you how this sparkles.

Over Glam is described as, "A glittery purple. This lacquer has it all: sparkles, shimmer and shine."

And I just had to show you Over Glam in the sun!

Over Glam shines in the sun! Isn't she glorious?!

And this oh-so-fall-like warm and fuzzy, Family Secret…Family Secret is nearly a one coater, great formula, highly pigmented, dream to apply. just the right sparkle in what looks like menlted chocolate sauce with gold shimmer.

Family Secret is described as, "A dark brown with hints of purple. This is a bold dark red with tiny sparkles..." It's one of those borderline browns that makes you think of a burnt red.

Verdict. I LOVE these four polishes! I normally prefer shorter, wider brushes, but since these formulas were all so exceptional, I had no problems with application. All took two coats. The wine shade is luxurious, and the metallics are perfect!

Madam Glad offers a myriad of shades in Neons, Pastels, Glitters and Golds. Price is currently $8.95 ea and all are full size .5 oz beautifully packaged bottles. All Madam Glam products are “five-free”: Product does not contain Formaldehyde, Toluene, DiButyl Phthalate (DBP), Formaldehyde Resin Or Camphor.

Emerald & Ash, where no indie lacquer has gone before. Globular Cluster M15 and Hubble!

Hubble and Globular Cluster M15, available April 24th at www.EmeraldandAsh.com

Hubble and Globular Cluster M15, available April 24th at http://www.EmeraldandAsh.com

This indie polish company, Emerald & Ash of Colorado Springs, CO, is one of the most creative I’ve seen. It’s owners, Nate and Ashley, a husband and wife team, are the ones who make all this glorious lacquer happen. Hubby Nate, a physics teacher, claims to be the brains behind everything and Ashley lends her creativity and insight to form and color. A great team indeed! It must be a blast at their house. I’d love to be a fly on their wall.

Before I begin singing my praises about these two new additions to the Hubble family, Globular Cluster M15 and Hubble, I’d like to list the other polishes in the collection. I’m pretty sure the whole set is a must have! They are: Dark Matter, Deep Field, Helix Nebula, Hourglass Nebula and Red Shift. All drool-worthy shades and formulas.

In this post I’m featuring two of the newest additions to the Hubble Collection. Globular Cluster M15 is a black jelly based lacquer filled with silver, gold and blue glitters along with blue and white micro flakies.

Globular Cluster M15 sparkles day and night!

Look deeper into space and you’ll find silver and gold holographic micro glitter. Like space itself, the deeper you look the more you’ll find.

The formula glides on smooth and requires two to three coats for full coverage. I think maybe you could try a pure black base and then add two coats, but I did just fine with two. You can wear it with or without topcoat.
It sparkles like the night sky, like the real globular Cluster M15!

Hubble is an amazing metallic foil polish. The formula slips smoothly onto the nail like skipping stones on the moon. It’s literally mistake proof!

Hubble mani with the Eye of Jupiter!

Hubble mani with the Eye of Jupiter!

I would describe it as a white gold foil but could also be described as a silver foil. It depends how you look at it and the lighting. Inspired by the Hubble Space Telescope, this foil was created to look like the outside of the Hubble. The polish also contains tiny gold and black flakies.
Gorgeous Hubble. So complex!

Gorgeous Hubble. So complex!

It’s like having the telescope’s outer shell on your nails! It’s very reflective and classy. I think it will really look great with a summer tan, but suitable for all seasons.
Here's a macro shot of Hubble in the bottle.

Here’s a macro shot of Hubble in the bottle.

You can wear Hubble with or without a topcoat, although wearing a good topcoat does extend the life of any polish. I used Gelous topcoat here.

It has been well over a year since I tried my hand at painting a galaxy nail. But I thought in honor of the collection I’d take another stab at it. This one is called “The Eye of God”, or “Eye of Jupiter” if you’re a Battlestar Galactica fan as I am! It is also known as the Helix Nebula. Would Starbuck be proud of my nail art? Lol I really don’t think she’d care. She’s not a fru fru girl, but I love her character!

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that I LOVE these bottles! Square bottles are so easy to store or display and the beautiful Emerald & Ash logo is very professionally printed on the medium size 11 ml and regular size 15 ml bottles. I found the brushes on the 11 ml bottles very easy to maneuver. I understand the larger bottles have a rubberized handle and even flatter brush. They’ve thought of everything. They sent along a cool transparent plastic business card and felt squares for easy glitter polish removal. I had no trouble at all removing these two but they will be nice to have for larger glitter polishes.

April 24th, 1990, is the 24th anniversary of the Hubble Space Telescope’s space launch. Since then is has been capturing stunning photos of space, welcoming us to gaze upon nebulas, galaxies, deep space and more. In honor of the 24 years of service since its launch, Emerald & Ash will be having a sale on April 24th. All polishes from the Hubble collection, including Globular Cluster M15 and Hubble, will be 24% off. This sale will only be on 4/24 so you better act fast!

Factoids! Ashley sent me this link that shows an image of the Globular Cluster M15 and I was amazed at how they captured the cluster in this polish. Even more reason to say wow! And What got my attention was that this cluster of over 100,000 stars is one of the few easily seen through mere binoculars. Read more here: http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap131119.html

The Hubble Space Telescope has now been gliding over earth for 24 years. It has proved to be one of NASA’s most worthwhile achievements with it’s high resolution images. Read more about the Hubble here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hubble_Space_Telescope

You'll love the whole collection, and you can order your Hubble and Globular Cluster M15 April 24th!
