Desert Tears ~for a great cause~ by Emerald & Ash

When Ashley from Emerald & Ash contacted me about swatching this new polish and described the great cause associated with “Desert Tears”, I told her YES right away! First, here is a swatch, then I’ll give you the background info!

Desert Tears has an extraordinary formulas that make you just gasp as you apply it! 2 coats, perfect consistency and glossy! I was sort of expecting a bit of grit, but it's super smooth, fast drying and shiny! A perfect sandy beige nude and even on my winter weary complexion, it doesn't wash me out. That is a fab nude in my book!

• And oh by the way, the release date is Friday March 6th at 5pm MST.

Quoting Ashley, “The reason this is such a special polish for both Nate and I is because it was created to help our amazing and dear friend Mark. Mark will be walking across the Sahara Desert in April as a part of The Marathon Des Sables, which is a 6 day endurance race. He’s doing this in partnership with Walking with the Wounded as a way to raise money and awareness for wounded vets. This isn’t his first first grueling trek as he was partnered with Walking with the Wounded, winter of 2013, in a race across Antarctica to reach the South Pole.”

Desert Tears may be an office friendly neutral but I totally see me wearing this on my fingers and toes at the beach! I mean, it's the color of sand, with little micro holo shimmers and specs of teal blue. LOVE it!

This sandy desert mani I used Desert Tears from Emerald & Ash. Mark’s charity of choice is the Bob Woodruff Foundation. The Woodruff Foundation’s mission is to ensure injured veterans and their families are thriving long after they return home by funding innovative programs in communities where veterans, their families and caregivers live and work. Sunset shades used are Sally Hansen Mellow Yellow, Zoya Wendy and Ling. Palm Trees are water decals from Born Pretty Store.

Mark’s Remarks (pun intended):

Nate and Ashley of Emerald & Ash have long been friends of a participant in the upcoming Marathon des Sables (MdS). This race is a challenging 150 mile foot race across parts of the Sahara completed in 5 days of running. Participants carry all of their own equipment and food with the exception of water being provided every 5-10 miles.”

Their friend, Mark Wise, is taking on this challenge as a representative of the US military wounded veteran community. Mark was wounded in Afghanistan in October 2009 by an IED, while losing his soldier and friend Pfc. Devin Michel. Mark has made it his mission to continue to support other veterans through advocacy, public speaking, and completing various challenges to demonstrate the capabilities of wounded veterans and disabled persons following their life changing events.

This year Mark will complete the MdS with a team of British wounded service members, all running independently, but united as a team in supporting charitable causes for veterans. We at Emerald & Ash are supporting Mark’s fundraising effort by donating 50% of all Desert Tears polish sales to the Bob Woodruff Foundation.

The Woodruff Foundation’s mission is to ensure injured veterans and their families are thriving long after they return home by funding innovative programs in communities where veterans, their families and caregivers live and work.

Mark further explains, “Throughout my journey of injury, recovery, and advocacy I have been blessed to have Nate and Ashley as close personal friends. They have always been giving in their time, thoughts, and energy. Veterans returning from conflict today are all in need of similar friends and family to care for them and help them continue to grow as an individual and friend. Thank you both again for your friendship.”

About Desert Tears from Ashley:

“Desert Tears came about when we asked Mark if we could help him fundraise by creating a polish for his adventure. When offered to pick a color he joked that it should be sand colored for all of the sand he’ll be looking at. He went on to joke that, no, maybe it should be water colored because that’s all he’ll be thinking about wanting. Thus a polish idea was born. Mark humorously and aptly named the polish Desert Tears.”

Desert Tears is a sandy taupe crelly-ish base with scattered holo. It’s filled with flecks of bright blue micro flakes and a touch of blue shimmer. Depending on the light the color can pull a true sand color, a taupe and even a greige. Perfect in 2-3 coats depending on your application. I applied two quick drying coats!

A few jewels from Emerald & Ash Nail Lacquer Life in Color Collection

When I first caught a glimpse of the new collection for this summer from Emerald & Ash, I about fell out of my chair. Every single one of the 14 new polishes will knock your socks off. This collection launched July 10th!

So sunny and bright!

So sunny and bright!

Nate and Ashley are so very detailed oriented they are even reformulating one of the shades they sent me. So I won’t be reviewing that one quite yet. They love color, obviously, so they said, “…So everything about this collection is based on colors that we are absolutely in love with. We also went with names that make both of us crack up when we hear them. Though there is a small mix in of meaningful names as well.”

I’m head over heels for “You Sun of a Beach”! It’s described by E & A as, “An eye-searing bright neon leaning coral crelly that hits you with a dose of scattered holo, just in case you already haven’t been blinded. Due to the nature of neon pigments this will dry to a semi-matte look. Leave it as is or gloss it up with a top coat, your choice! You can always layer it over a base coat of white polish to make the color pop even more! Without a base color you can get full coverage in 2-3 coats.” I used 2 coats, no top coat in these photos. I’m telling you, I see no reason to use a white base. This sucker is bright!

Next I present a glorious shimmery teal called Stubble Jumper!

Stubble Jumper is a stunner!

Stubble Jumper is a stunner!

E & A describe it like this. “A stunning polish that was created for Courtney over at Swatcher, Polish Ranger, and she was kind enough to let us include it in our collection. Stubble Jumper refers to a person or farmer who has to jump over the wheat “stubble” as they walk across the fields. This blue-ish teal crelly is flecked with blue shimmer as well as yellow and green/gold micro flakies. It is a stunner that gives full coverage in 2-3 coats depending on your application.”

They aren’t just whistling Dixie! Look at it in the sun!

Here’s an indoor shot. The application is awesome. I only used two coats and it sparkles even without the sun!

And now for the 3rd selection, Confusion With a K. It’s a crazy mixed up glitter topper!

Confusion with a K is loaded with a kaleidoscope of colors.

Confusion with a K is loaded with a kaleidoscope of colors.

Nate and Ashley describe it like this. “Once upon a time we found an ottoman that had beautiful bright colors and it needed to come home with us. It also needed to be made into a polish. After many trials and errors it decided to be a fun, festive glitter topper. Because it said so. And so, Confusion with a K was born. A glitter topper full of neon pink, neon green, metallic navy blue, grey and white glitters of all sizes. It wants to go on top of ALL of your polishes and maybe even be sandwiched between them as well. You’re good to go with one to two coats, depending on how glitter-hungry you are!”

Confusion With a K indoor shot. I used the bright orange You Sun of a Beach, also from their Life in Color collection, underneath a gradient of this amazing glitter topper.

Emerald & Ash Cuticle and Nail Oils, let’s get this ball rollin’!

Emerald & Ash Cuticle and Nail Oils, let's get this ball rollin'!

Emerald & Ash just recently introduced 30 new scents into their scent line up for their nail oil line. This brings the grand total for scents up to 85! 87 if you include Seller’s Choice and Unscented. On top of that they offer blends of all of the scents as well! They say there are millions of options just waiting to be made! That’s PHENOMINAL folks!

I received a 3 pack of our 4mL oils for review. I chose Moonlight Tuberose, Kulu Bay and Vanilla Champagne.

I started with these delicious samplings. Vanilla Champagne, Kulu Bay and Moonlit Tuberose.

Their nail oils are hand blended and mixed to order. None of the oils sit with scents premixed into them. E & A use a unique blend of oils that include Fractionated coconut oil, grapeseed oil, jojoba oil, meadowfoam seed oil, tea tree oil, vitamin A oil and vitamin E oil.

They created a nail oil that they love and use themselves. They wanted something that was fast absorbing, moisturizing and that didn’t leave a greasy feeling behind. It’s a cuticle oil that can be used as often as needed, while also using it frequently to help get your nails and cuticles into better shape. And I can tell you, I put my own cuticles through the ringer as a swatcher/blogger! I can almost hear my cuticles screaming, “call 911, she’s got the acetone again!”

Here is the condition of my skin and cuticles during a very busy week of swatching, and before starting my regimen of E & A's Cuticle oil!

BEFORE: Here is the condition of my skin and cuticles during a very busy week of swatching, and before starting my regimen of E & A’s Cuticle oil!

AFTER: as you can see, after 5 days of 2-3 times daily applying the oil, my skin no longer looks like the Mojave desert. Imagine if you had worse looking cuticles? And I swatched a ton this week. I imagine in a normal week, or for the average user, the result would be stupendous! I definitely can see and feel the improvement.

I received the oils on Monday, and it’s now Friday as I post this review. From the moment I unpacked these gorgeous little bottles, mine are the 4 ml size, I could smell the delicious oils immediately. But they aren’t in-your-face, so not to worry. They won’t interfere with your perfumes.

I LOVE this roller ball applicator!

I LOVE this roller ball applicator!

I’m pretty stoked about the application…roller balls! Love it! No worries about tipping or spilling. I am not the most graceful chick on the block. Plus you can carry one in your purse and apply on-the-go. No, you can’t do it while you’re driving! 😉

Emerald & Ash offer 85 scents in both essential oils and fragrance oils. Those 85 scents can also be blended into an even larger selection of scents. Along with that they offer unscented, sellers choice where they choose the scent and a scent of the month that is offered at a discounted price.

Prices range from $3.25 singles to $6.50/3 pc set, sizes are 4, 7 and 10 ml. It only takes a little so these will last a long time! The bottles are solid and so classy too. I immediately put one in my purse. Remember, a good manicure involves more than just the nails.
