SquareHue Adventure Collection takes us to Skydive Interlaken!

Diving right into the April polish subscription box from SquareHue, the moment I opened it I was out of breath! The April Adventure Collection brings us Skydive Interlaken. Three finishes, three knockout shades. Let’s suit up and take a look!

Eye popping shades for April! From Left, Monch...an eye-searing matte yellow. Eiger...a pink duochrome gloss (I'd consider it more of a pink with flashes of blue). And a glitter within a purple crelly, Jungfrau.

Monch is so brilliant, not even the sun can compete with this shade. Wear it matte or shine it up even more with a topcoat. I don’t know why but yellow this shade screams for black! So I had fun with some dots and dry marble.

Monch in 2 coats. I read that some folks had some streaking and stringy formula issues. I had NO issues at all. Dried fast and very matte and I didn't even need a 3rd coat.

Eiger is a super glossy pink with flashes of blue shimmer. I don’t seem to get a duochrome effect, but it’s sure gorgeous!

It took 3 thin coats and was easy to apply. I love pinks like this with that hint of shimmer.

Last but no way least, a super surprise this month is a pale purple crelly/glitter, Jungfrau. Hey, did you know that Jungfrau is a group of mountain peaks in Switzerland? Me neither. I really must get out more! lol

Jungfrau in 3 easy coats gives you great depth and dimension.

Conclusion. I read a couple mini reviews and a couple of reviewers had a couple of problems with Jungfrau and Monch. I had 0 problems, 0 defects! the Eiger took a bit longer to dry but the glossiness is worth it. Jungfrau is exactly how I like my crelly/glitters. And Monch, well. She’s a standout as far as yellow polishes are concerned. I’m super pleased!

SquareHue 07.15 1960s box review…It’s really hip to be square!

I’m slowly getting back into the swing of things with my swatching and blogging. I managed to grab a few hours before the big move to swatch these and a few others. For some reason, my swatch “non-dominate” hand’s middle digit wants to keep chipping, just millimeters at a time, still frustrating! But now that all the packing, painting, etc is done for now and we are in Texas, my nails can breathe a sigh of relief and I can allow them to regain their original length. Sorry for the odd lengths. I couldn’t bare to trim them any further. 😉

I’m excited I got the Decades Collection July box, 1960, before we left. These three polish colors are wonderful for summertime. Let’s get right to the groovy images!

This month's The Decades Collection box featuring the 1960s is far out! The in-your-face fuscia Tune In is a satiny fuscia neon. It dries matte but looks amazing alone or with topcoat. Same with the highlighter neon Turn On. It's a brilliant 2-coater matte, and no white undies required. The purple/blue duochrome with brilliant blue flash shimmer makes this set complete, and oh, so glossy!

Let’s start with Tune In, a neon pink matte.

Tune In is one of those brilliant deep neon pinks that make you love, well, pink! Hard to tell by my photo here, but I put a coat of clear topcoat on the ring finger, but even matte, this color jumps off the nail.

Turn On is also matte, but it’s a brilliant neon yellow/green and I LOVE it! The photo makes it look more yellow, but on the nail it has a bit of green cast.

Turn On is a matte SUPER highlighter yellow/green that can make the most pale look tan! Wow, my camera couldn't even handle the brightness. Great formula, no white undies needed.

And last but not least, Drop Out. This glossy duochrome is opaque in 2-3 coats, and oh my, that blue flash is crazy!

Lovely Bunny certainly is lovely!

Lovely Bunny was the sheerest of these 3 requiring 3 coats for me with my long nails to not see the free edge when in full light. But the effect is a mesmerizing green/blue duochrome shimmer.

I asked Heather to share the inspiration of how Charlie Loves Bella came to be. It’s inspired by a true story and written by Spell Polish owner/creator herself, Heather. She told me, “It’ based on a true story about my cat, Charlie and his love for rabbits.” Heather says that This collection is based on a true story about a cat that falls in love with a rabbit. All polishes come with a corresponding trade card- all 10 cards together tell the whole story of Charlie and Bella.

Here is the story of Charlie Loves Bella:

~Charlie Loves Bella~

Bella was a bunny and Charlie was a cat,
but Charlie didn’t know love doesn’t work like that.

So Charlie donned his slippers and sneaked away at night

looking for his Bella by the goldenrod moonlight.

He thought he’d bring her flowers- a hyacinth or two-

and serenade his Bella with a melody he knew.

When out of her small warren, he saw her whiskers peeking,

he knew he’d finally found the love that he was always seeking.

This was the radiant rabbit he spotted a few days before,
and followed through the woods, right to her bunny door.
Her fur was smooth and silken; her nose a velvet pink.
Her eyes were bright as stars, more lovely with each blink.
But Bella’s mother chided from inside that darkened hole,
and warned her lovely bunny not to stray and not to stroll.
“Cats can be quite dangerous with very dreadful habits,”
she reminded her sweet Bella that kitties aren’t for rabbits.

Who was this singing kitty who courted under the moon,
who made her heartbeat skip, and made her nearly swoon?

So early the next morning, Bella dressed for the affair
and followed Charlie’s footprints back to his secret lair.
She hid behind an oak tree in hopes of a better view,
then spied her star-crossed lover sitting under boughs of yew.
Delightful was his posture and flaxen were his locks.
Charlie was a kitty but he also was a fox!
She hip-hopped to her homestead, with extra bounce in her step.
She had to tell her sister about the kitty she had met.
But Bianca twitched her whiskers and crumpled up her nose,
“Bunnies cannot fall in love with kitties—everyone knows!”

But later that same evening, with daisies in his hat,
Charlie showed Bianca he was not an average cat.
He scampered through the forest, and shimmied up a tree,
courting the whole family by dropping daisies on all three.
Bella’s mom was startled and Bianca was confused
but Bella’s heart was tickled and her spirit was amused.
She loved a cat named Charlie and she didn’t care who knew.
So she blew him bunny kisses and she knew her love was true.
He jumped down from that pine tree and gave his Bella a wink,
then offered her his paw, their arms a furry link.
They took a springtime ramble off into the setting sun,
the story of Charlie and Bella was a tale that had just begun…

In the pink with Spell Polishes…Including War Paint from the Threads of Pangaea collection, release tomorrow, Nov. 7th!

Spell polishes are very complex and there is never a dull collection. From A to Z, every collection stands on it’s own and it seems Heather never runs out of unique combinations to keep us reeling! I love pink polishes and maybe it’s because they just love my skin tone whether I’m tan, pale as a ghost or anything in between. I was sent two lovely pinks and I’ll start off with a brand spanking new polish from the newest collection, Threads of Pangaea, “War Paint”, (releasing tomorrow, November 7, 2014).

UPDATE! War Paint is available TODAY, Nov. 7th! Yay 🙂

War Paint is all the holo goodness you love, and oh so feminine. So many times when I think of holographic, scattered or linear, I don't think of pinks, but this totally works!

Application was glorious as expected…I used only two coats and it’s easy to apply. Sometimes holos can be a bit of a diva, but there was no pulling or dragging. Perfect!

I just HAD to take a shot in sunshine to show off that marvelous holo shine!

Finish is Shiny, linear holographic chrome with Coverage: 2-3 coats for full opacity. Special Characteristics: Magenta Pink chrome in muted lighting, linear holographic in bright sunlight.”

Still sparkly in regular light and it's such a luxurious pink. War Paint from tomorrow's release will have you saying, "Charge!"

Next is “My Heart Keeps Skipping” from “It Was Written in the Stars” collection, it is heavenly!

My Heart Keeps Skipping is a pretty pastel duochrome, flashing between blue and pink.

Verdict on these two blushing beauties is 200 percent thumbs up! Love them and if you’re a pink polish fantatic, you’ll want to add these to your collection. Hip to be Square…Hue that is!

Square Hue's Amsterdam 4.14 from the Passport Collection.

Square Hue’s Amsterdam 4.14 from the Passport Collection.

After seeing many of my Youtube friends giving love on their Square Hue nail polish subscription service, I decided it was high time to give a go. I’m always a bit nervous about getting monthly subscriptions on beauty products. My apprehension is mainly, what if I don’t like anything in the current box? Then it’s a hassle and wasted money. But, No. 1, with high quality products, that’s less of an issue. No. 2, you won’t receive a lot of fluff ‘n stuff with Square Hue, no ma’am! You get polishes, that’s it! Everything is guaranteed and returnable if you’re not satisfied. Plus they give to good causes from some of their proceeds. What’s not to like? Well, on with my review of 4.14 Passport Collection, Amsterdam!

Masterpieces! From left, Kalverstraat, P.C. Hooftstraat and Beethovenstraat. I should mention that each collection comes with a reference card with the names and color blocks. Awesome idea!

I was anxiously waiting for my little box to arrive. Oh, and they mail your order on the first of each corresponding month and it’s fast delivery. You get a tracking # by the way. I really wanted to be surprised and the only peek of what “might” arrive was the colored watercolor or pencil drawing from SH. I was imagining perhaps the shades found in the drawing, but I also imagined maybe shades from paintings in a museum there from the colorful 19th century painter, Vincent Van Gogh. Yellows and blues and reds. I cheated and let myself seek out any other subbies that received their packages before me. I was delighted to see the colors were so bright and cheery and of course I’m always drawn in to duochromes…yesssss! Since Amsterdam just makes me think of the art community (and unfortunately I’m not in that elite group) I still attempted to at least try a French dotting design to honor this collection. Best I could do! LOL

Kalverstraat is the reddish/pinkish, coral (sorry, it seems to change depending on the light) and it’s a creme with lots of gloss! It is so wearable because it does seem to go with everything! It has the most opaque formula of the three. Two coats does the trick. Very easy to work with and the brush is easy to handle, not too big or skinny.

Beethoverstraat is a brilliant neon green and what surprised me with this shade being a neon, it dries high gloss! I find most neons dry to a matte or semi matte finish. It is sheer so three coats is necessary but, that being said, as thin as it is it didn’t try to pool, easily buildable and self corrects quite nicely. Easily my fave neon green in my collection.

Last but not least is the GORGEOUS purple duochrome of P.C. Hooftstraat. It is a super glossy medium opacity purple with beautiful shimmers of deep blue. It’s not a strong duochrome in comparison to others I own. But holy moly, it’s glossy! Love it!

The perfect size box. Very conservative!

The perfect size box. Very conservative!

The shades offered monthly by SH are particular to each month of it’s release. There are no permanent collections so if you miss out, you’ll have to find someone to buy your lemming from or check eBay or Amazon. Just thought I’d throw that in free of charge 😉

I LOVE the square bottles, so easy to store or display. The whole packaging is very convenient from the clearview design on every side, to the name and month of the collection’s arrival.

Rio is the Passort Collection for 5.14. Will you join the Carnival?!

I Love my Sugar Daddy!

I Love my Sugar Daddy!

Well, I do! Ok, so after the 100s of bottles (you heard me…don’t judge 😉 I’ve acquired, I’m just now experiencing my first Deborah Lippmanns and I’m pretty excited about it.

I bought three last month at a HUGE discount from a wonderful online shop called Beauty Brands, http://www.beautybrands.com. In fact I believe they have brick and mortars too but you’ll have to see if they have any located near you. I was alerted thanks to Gianna at http://nouveaucheap.blogspot.com. Her “sightings” enable the bargain hunter in all of us! Lol she had posted an amazing sale for Lippmann polishes for an average price of about $4.50 a bottle and I knew this was the only way to grab a few. Watch for future reviews here as I get them swatched!

Shown here, Sugar Daddy’s formula is glorious! That is the word I quite audibly uttered as I began painting my nails. This stunning duochrome transforms from a Rose fold to yellow gold depending on the light and direction. It’s a beautiful color-shifting lacquer.

Sugar Daddy in full sunlight

Sugar Daddy in full sunlight

I’m pretty sure it would have great staying power but I may never get a chance to test that out since I paint a new color every day or two. I have two more shades to feature and I’m seriously thinking about getting a deep purple I spied on beautybrands.com. I’d check them out from time to time if you’re looking for an affordable way to pick up some of these luxury polishes.
