Fresh from the Madam Glam Smoothie Gel Collection…and a nude!

Today I will be sharing 2 of the 36 Madam Glam Smoothie Gel Collection polish, plus a blushing nude gel polish! I want to mention right away, that my first encounter applying the thicker gel polishes (with glitters) was a bit of a learning experience. For years I’ve developed a method of applying non-gel glitter toppers and polishes in a certain way, thin first then thick and dobbed on. It is not recommended to do it this way with gel because of the way you cure them, you cannot apply thick layers, ever! Although not especially damaging, your curing light will create a chemical heat reaction that is somewhat uncomfortable. Now I know this doesn’t have to happen at all and that applying 2-3 THIN coats cured after each coat does the trick nicely without any discomfort. This even applies to regular gel polishes that lean to the thicker side. Apply thin even coats curing after each. You end up with a smooth, saturated finish. The Smoothies look amazing! Also, I’ll be sharing with you a delicate nude with a hint of peachy pink. Lovely!

Here are two of the Madam Glam Smoothie Gel Collection. Fizzy Laguna and Girly & Creamy, are delicate and creamy. All of the Smoothies come in full size 15 ml bottles with adorable and individually themed labels for extra fun. Note: Madam Glam recommends, "Consistency is thick, thus Smoothie Gels cure much faster! To avoid gel overheating: 1) Apply VERY THIN LAYERS 2) Reduce your regular curing time (3sec/coat for powerful lamp, 15sec/coat for others) Consistency can be sticky - to shake before applying!"

Fall 2015, Contradictions Collection by CND Vinylux coming your way!

I know, I know. It’s 90 degrees out, the sun is shining…not even dog days yet. But still, we all love taking a peek at fall collections right about this time. And the new CND Vinylux fall collection for 2015, Contradictions, will not disappoint. This warm and cozy bunch features 8 polishes in the Weekly Polish System lineup. The Shellac version contains six. I will be bringing you 2-3 shades at a time, just to tempt your autumn appetite.

CND says, "Turn up the contrast with the new Fall 2015 Contradictions collection from CND. Textures and tones collide for an unexpected elegance: leather and lace, street and chic, metal and pearl." Image from CND; From left: Safety Pin, Naked Naiveté, Tartan Punk, Rouge Rite, Couture Covet, Peacock Plume, Poison Plum and Grommet.

For starters, today I chose a light and a dark shade from the Weekly Polish collection with a little block color nail art thrown in. Naked Naivete and Couture Covet.

I LOVE this blushing nude Naked Naiveté on its own, but to kick it up a notch, I paired it with this luscious teal cream called Couture Covet from the fall collection Contradictions. Color blocking is always fun with contradicting shades!

The Naked Naiveté recquired 3 coats for this look. You might get away with two and it’s super creamy and self-leveling. Couture Covet is a smooth 1-coater.

Keep watching here as I bring you more combos from the collection. “This season’s trends celebrate an unexpected clash between gritty street elements and elegant details for a dynamic combination of glamour and grunge,” says CND Co-founder and Style Director Jan Arnold. “Nails evoke an edgy narrative with blackened pigments and heraldic ornaments. Enhanced almonds in purple and red are deepened and oxidized with smoked pearl and steel finishes.”

I'll be bringing this beautiful fall collection from CND Vinylux called Contradictions to you a couple at a time. Stay tuned!

Spring 2015 Flora & Fauna Collection by Vinylux

Wake up to these soft and easy-on-the-eyes shades from Vinylux Spring 2015 Flora & Fauna Weekly Polish Collection from CND. Colors and styles are inspired by watercolor impressions of luminous landscapes. I have to disclose immediately that every single one of these formulas are jaw-droppingly gorgeous. I’m not kidding! I would consider this collection sent to me by RPR Marketing a spring essential for salons everywhere and avid polish collectors in general.

Introducing CND Vinylux Weekly Polish (also available in Shellac) Spring 2015 Flora & Fauna Collection. This set of eight polishes include 4 creams, 2 glass fleck shimmers, and 2 pearly shimmers. Back row: Wild Moss (glass fleck), Salmon Run (cream), Thistle Thicket (cream) and Field Fox (cream). Front row: Creekside (cream), Blush Teddy (shimmer), Dandelion (pearl shimmer) and Fragrant Freesia (glass fleck).

Back row: Wild Moss (glass fleck), Salmon Run (cream), Thistle Thicket (cream) and Field Fox (cream). Front row: Creekside (cream), Blush Teddy (shimmer), Dandelion (pearl shimmer) and Fragrant Freesia (glass fleck).

CND describes this collection, available in these Weekly Polishes as well as Shellac as: “Moments of reflection as wildflowers sway in the soft morning breeze. Untouched meadows, nature’s retreat, sigh with tranquility.” They are available now.

“This season’s trends are all about unplugging from today’s digital world and embracing the simpler things. Sun-bleached tones and dreamy watercolor paintings emerge from the perfection of nature,” says CND Co-founder and Style Director Jan Arnold. “Nails are easy and softly squared – as wearable and simple as a barefoot stroll through the grass while finishes play with matte and shiny effects.”

I’d say that pretty much nails it! I couldn’t be happier with this breath of fresh air. Let’s take a look.

First up is Blush Teddy. I’m not sure what that implies 😉 But its gorgeous.

Blush Teddy is a cream with a super subtle shimmer.

I’m in love with Creekside! I guess because I love the water. But it’s a stunning pale blue.

I wasn’t sure if I’d care much for Dandelion on my skin tone, but I think it’s one of my faves of the bunch.

Dandelion is a pale peachy pearly shimmer.

What a glorious neutral is Field Fox!

Field Fox is a beautiful taupey nude cream that reminds me of a milk chocolate drink.

Fragrant Freesia has a wonderful glass fleck effect that I love in polishes!

Fragrant Freesia is a gorgeous glass fleck shimmer polish with a superb formula, just like Wild Moss, two coats.

Even though Salmon Run was streakier in application on the 1st coat, it nicely corrected itself on the second, and still needed a third. But it turned out nice and I love this shade!

Salmon run is the only 3-coater in the set of creams but the gorgeously peachy payoff is worth it.

Thistle Thicket is one of those must-have greys that tend to go with everything! This would be a wonderful polish for the workplace, but also as a base for nail art. It’s got a touch of blue/lavender to it which makes it adaptable.

Thistle Thicket is another fabulous formula. A pale neutral, a greyed out blue/lilac is opaque in two coats.

I LOVE this Wild Moss with it’s glass flecks and shimmer!

And just for fun, I played around with a bit of springtime nail art of Wild Moss.

Here is a little nail art, a spring tree in bloom, using four of the Flora & Fauna collection, Wild Moss, Salmon Run, Field Fox and Creekside.

Introducing the Chloe & Bella 2015 Spring collection

Mark your calendars for March 21st! This oh-so-spring collection from indie brand Chloe & Bella, the 2015 Spring Collection, will go on sale and you don’t want to miss any of the six mix ‘n match set. Here they are!

Here they are! The stunning Chloe & Bella 2015 Spring Collection. They are, from left, "Strawberry Cream, Strawberry Twinkle, Tangerine Cream, Tangerine Twinkle, Aubergine Twinkle and Aubergine Cream.

Here they are! The stunning Chloe & Bella 2015 Spring Collection. They are, from left, “Strawberry Cream, Strawberry Twinkle, Tangerine Cream, Tangerine Twinkle, Aubergine Twinkle and Aubergine Cream.

The formulas of the creams were consistent and easy to work with. No flooding and not overly thick with a nicely splaying brush. Although it’s hard to capture the iridescent flashes within each of the creams, believe me, they are there in full sun and well lit rooms. The glitter toppers are great formulas as well, each in clear bases. No fishing here as these formulas have plenty of multi-sized glitters without being chunky on the nail. I found that they applied so smoothly you really don’t need a glitter filling top coat for any of them.

Let’s start off with the Tangerines! Tangerine Cream

Tangerine Cream is a smooth 2-coater with flashes of purple iridescent shimmer. Hard to capture in the photo but believe me, it's breathtaking!

Tangerine Twinkle, her outspoken sister!

Tangerine Twinkle is perfectly paired up to it's sister, Tangerine Cream, but I'm tempted to think outside the box and pair her over Strawberry Cream! Ohh, ahh!

Tangerine Twinkle is described as, "Tangerine Twinkle is a sparkling glitter-filled topper that begins with a clear base and is filled to the top with delicious glitters and is then amped up to the next level with holographic glitters that give it an extra shiny spark. Everyone needs a dreamy pink in their springtime collection. Here we have Strawberry Cream.

Strawberry Cream is a luscious 2-coater with a shimmer to take it from a beautiful cream to a fabulous pink stunner!

And finally, the Aubergines! Now, I had to look up this word because frankly, I didn’t know what it meant! 😉 Aubergine is actually another word for eggplant! Now, although this could be a pastel version of that deep purple squash, you’ll see the true eggplant shade in it’s sister’s glitter. Here is Aubergine Cream.

Aubergine Cream is a great 2-coat polish with a bit of iridescent flash. I accented her with a light layer of Aubergine Twinkle.

And paired with the cream this glitter is too gorgeous. Here is the last of the collection Aubergine Twinkle.

Aubergine Twinkle is a gorgeous mixed purple glitter topper in a smooth clear base. Perfect to pair over Aubergine Cream!

Reminiscent of Easter egg colors and springtime blooms, you’ll definitely want this collection. I highly recommend them!

The polishes go live for sale on the Chloe & Bella website beginning March 21, 2015 and will retail for $7.50 each.

I can’t say enough about this amazing collection! Chloe & Bella polishes have never disappointed me and they are a great value! This is why indie brands flat out rock. They are always innovating. Let me know which ones you will be buying. I love hearing from you.

Reverie Nail Lacquer Summer 2014 Collection

Reverie Nail Lacquer Summer 2014 Collection

Reverie Nail Lacquer Summer 2014 Collection

I’m pretty excited to present to you a sampling of the beauty that is the Reverie Nail Lacquer (formerly known as Two Gypsies Nail Lacquer) Summer 2014 Collection! Owner/creator, Michelle Hill, is releasing the set today at her shop on Etsy. Details below.

First on deck we have Agave.

Agave is a gorgeous formula. Wearable any season.

Agave is described as a blue/grey crelly polish with tiny copper and golden flakies. I used two coats and it dries to a smooth finish, almost glossy. Nice formula. Don’t let the first thin coat fool you. By the time you’re back to the second coat you realize that’s all you need, is two!

Then we have Orchid.

Orchid is so delicate yet just the right amount of sparkle.

I LOVE holos and Orchid is so delicate. It is described as a pale purple/pink base with a slight golden shimmer and subtle holographic sheen in the sunlight. I noticed it as also in my well lit room. I added a shot in sunlight so you can see how marvelously it sparkles! I used two medium coats, no top coat. Great formula!

Next we have Seascape.

Seascape is super summery. You'll need a bit of patience with this one as it is thicker, but the result is fun!

Seascape is described as cream colored crelly polish featuring a gold shimmer and hex and dot glitters in various shades of peach, yellow and blue. Very beachy! It is thick so glide it on as thin as you can, let dry then add your second coat. Top with a good top coat. I used Gelous.

Mermaid Scales is super glitzy and mysterious!

Mermaid Scales is blingy!

I painted Mermaid Scales over a thin base coat of a sheer blurple here. I love the effect. You can also build it up on it’s own. I only needed one coat over the blurple. It is described as a super sparkly micro glitter bomb with both holo and iridescent glitters. The result is smooth and shiny.

Andromeda is SO stunning!

Andromeda is drop dead gorgeous!

Andromeda is described as a blue/purple jelly base packed with hex and dot glitters, as well as two different sizes of colorful stars and tiny iridescent bar glitters. The effect is amazing. You can build it up with 2-3 coats. Or for fun layer it over a plain base color or jelly.

Summer Wine is our last selection and oh is she juicy!

Summer Wine is one of my faves in this collection.

Summer Wine is a bright red jelly polish loaded with pink, red, orange, yellow and iridescent hex and dot glitters. It really reminds me of Sangria! Like Andromeda, use thin coats and it builds up quickly.

That’s it for now. Overall I love this collection. I’m partial to holos and these jelly glitter mixes are amazing. Head on over to Michelle’s store and grab a set!

I am way behind getting things ready for vacation. I may pop on here while we are out of town, just so you know I’m still breathing and didn’t get injured shooting of fireworks! LOL Be safe everyone and have a great 4th of July holiday.

Reverie (formerly Two Gypsies Nail Lacquer) is having a 30% off sale right now AND she just released a Limited Edition color to go with her Summer 2014 collection.

Breakwater, the perfect purple

Breakwater, the perfect purple

I have to admit, I’m a sucker for purple. I’m not a sucker for cream polishes. They…challenge me! I’ve gotten spoiled with shimmers, textures, glitters and holos. They cover a multitude of mistakes. Heaven knows with my old eyes I have to use glasses meant for Mr. Magoo. You see, he’s blind and…never mind. The point is, Cult Cosmetics polishes are amazingly user friendly!

Seriously, if you haven’t tried their polishes, rush over to https://www.cultcosmetics.com and see what all the fuss is about. They have a very doable monthly subscription service where you get their “Blackbox” bundles. They come with at least two bottles of amazing polishes, plus art tools or other cosmetics. They also have mini boxes, which contain just two full size bottles, no extras. California based Cult cosmetics has everything from creams to metallics to glitters. Every one I’ve tried is perfection and I’m not being paid to say that. I’ve bought mine with my own money, just FYI. Oh and I apologize for my so-so photo! I’m on vacation without my beloved light box.

But getting back to the featured shade, Breakwater, it goes on like a dream. It is true, one coat and done as they say, but I’m normally a two coat gal just because. But it’s not necessary, and I used no topcoat…doesn’t need it! So glossy, I just didn’t see the need.

Also, check out their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/CultCosmetics. Hint: they constantly have contests and flash giveaways. In fact I’m awaiting arrival of a cute little set myself!

I highly recommend these polishes. The brushes are just right, formula is as easy as pie, and I love the easy-to-store square bottles.

An Ode to Odette

An Ode to Odette

I never thought I’d like these neutrals with my current complexion…winter blah. When I finally got over to my local Ulta store I found Zoya’s Naturel Collection in force. Luckily they had a “color spoon” set there with the whole collection painted on plastic nails. That way shoppers can hold them to their fingers to see if they like them. Admitedly, I knew the first two pale shades, Chantal and Taylor, were going to be a no-go for me. Not until at least I have a tan! It just made me look, sort of dead! LOL I am interested in Rue and Brigitte however and plan to pick them up at some point. The darkest sister, Normani? I just don’t see that one on me at all. Not even with a tan. So for starters, Odette won me over.

I’ve been neglecting buying plain Jane creams for some time but I’m branching out. I am smitten by glitters, shimmers, glass flecks, holos, duochromes, multichromes. Well you get the idea. I’m easily hypnotized by all that sparkly! But there are times a girl just wants something soft and smooth and delicate on the eyes. Zoya’s Naturel Collection fills that bill and all within the Pantone 2014 arena. I think beautiful was a perfect one to get me back on the neutral cream track.

She's a beauty!

She’s a beauty!

Odette had me a tad worried on the first coat. I wasn’t expecting, or I’m not used to thinner formulas, but she evened out nicely. As is typical for Zoya brushes, they are amazing and splay perfectly for even distribution. For best effect and full coverage you’ll want two coats. Zoya claims color intensity is a 5 on a scale of 1-5 for opacity. I’m confused about the claim of being in the color family of Mauve, because in the description Zoya notes this shade to be a “sultry orchid maroon”. I’m going to go with that! 😉 I just have to say, I love it and oh by the way, she dries glossy enough to almost see yourself. An extra feather in her cap. So this is my ode to Odette. You pulled me in, you won my heart, and that my friend is just the start.
