Happy Days ahead with Deborah Lippmann Gel Lab Pro Color

I was so excited to be able to test the new Deborah Lippmann Gel Lab Pro Colors, in the Happy Days Collection for summer 2016. The New Healthy Alternative to Gel Polish. There are four shades for your reminiscing pleasure. I want to start with a disclaimer, not a bad one. But I didn’t get the Gel Lab Pro Base and Top coats with this set. I’ll explain shortly. I think I would have had different results, but for the sake of these gorgeous colors, let’s get to it!

For best results use Gel Lab Pro base and top coat. Bottles are full size, .5 Fl. Oz. 15 mL with new contour brush, 45% more bristles for a streak-free finish. Rounded tip follows nail shape for precise application.

I want to start off saying the new brushes are phenomenal. I’d like to see DL polishes all feature these dense, contoured brushes in fact! They make application a breeze. Ok, on with the show.

Combining the technology of Gel Lab Pro with nail color, this dual-patented formula with 10 active ingredients helps deliver Health, Wear & Shine. From top and clockwise: Happy Days, Splish Splash, Beauty School Dropout and My Boyfriend's Back.

Combining the technology of Gel Lab Pro with nail color, this dual-patented formula with 10 active ingredients helps deliver Health, Wear & Shine. From top and clockwise: Happy Days, Splish Splash, Beauty School Dropout and My Boyfriend’s Back.

Let’s start with Beauty School Dropout. Such a pleasing pink. You’ll be blowing bubbles in no time with this quick drying highly pigmented formula. All four of these by the way are so pigmented they almost seem chalky in application. Which again, is why I would recommend using the base and top coat.

Beauty School Dropout is a bubblegum pink creme. It's glossy and very opaque. I used 2 coats but with the Gel Lab Pro base coat you might get away with 1 coat.

Splish Splash is a green leaning aqua. One of my fave summer colors.

Splish Splash was my favorite of this Happy Days Collection. I love aqua green cremes. 2 coats here.

Everyone loves a happy coral! Happy Days.

Happy Days is a coral creme, a pinky coral that appears to have a tiny bit of shimmer, but that doesn't show on the nail. 2-3 coats with the GLP base coat.

Finally, here is My Boyfriend’s Back. Not literally, that’s the name of the shade. LOL I’m married. 😉

My Boyfriend's Back is a denim, deep cerulean blue creme. 2 coats and very shiny on it's own as are all of these.

Conclusion: I love the colors and the brush. I like how pigmented these are. I feel the application would be a bit less streaky with the Gel Lab Pro base coat and the length of wear would be longer with the GLP top coat. Much like the OPI Infinite Shine system, to truly reap the full benefits of the GLP system, I highly recommend you purchase the base and top as well. So excited to see Deborah Lippmann introducing this safe alternative to gel colour! This brush is perfection. Virtually no cleanup. Note: I didn’t receive the Gel Lab Pro Base and Top Coats which I’m assuming are pretty essential for this product to make a GLP mani last. Without it I found no difference in wear compared to the other polishes without the GLP ingredients. I’ll try to see if they can send the base and top to see how application and extended wear changes and update this post!

How I refreshed the ugliest pillows in the world!

After we moved into our new home last fall, we bought a beautiful sofa sleeper for the guest room. You know…for when the kids come and visit. 😉 It is so comfy and although the garnet red micro suede corduroy intrigued me, I felt my future plans were to accent it beach style, so I chose the only other available shade, a coffee brown sofa. If you’ve seen my Pinterest or read any of my nail blog, you know I’m all about the beach.

Before and after! You can choose to sew on one large button in center, or several up and down front fold. It's just decoration!

Before and after! You can choose to sew on one large button in center, or several up and down front fold. It’s just decoration!

I’m sure you’ve seen a myriad of tutorials and Pinterest posts of DIYs for re-covering pillows. So many methods, so little time! LOL Here is my method. Buying heavy cotton fabric by Waverly (at Walmart), $3.97/yd, my cost for recovering two pillows came to only $5.67. I found some gorgeous buttons to finish the look, $2 ea. Not cheap, but I figured since it was so inexpensive for fabric, I could splurge on just the right button accents! 😉 I’m not a seamstress and these photos are just to give you an idea how to recover a pillow with nearly 0 needlework! Let’s take a look.

Here is the ugly pillow, 1 of 2, to be recovered. Like I said, this is a brand new pillow with a zippered end. It's filled with loose batting so I am leaving this ugly duckling in tact.

You know how exciting it is to pick out a brand new sofa, then you get it home and they all (ALL) come with the ugliest accent pillows? Yeah. You know what I’m talking about. Seriously! Why do furniture manufacturers go to all that trouble to create beautiful pieces, then choose hideous pillows to finish the look? Every. Single. Time! Here is how I fixed it. Sorry, just phone snaps here but you’ll get the idea.

Start with one ugly pillow you want to cover. If it contains loose fill or batting, I'd suggest you leave the original cover on. Unless it's stinky. LOL This one unzips but it's never been used, so I left it in place. Measure width and height to be covered. If you use a cloth seamstress measuring tape you can wrap the tape around it. Fabrics come in different widths on the bolt, ie., 45", 60", etc. I don't do math, which is why I ended up with twice the amount of fabric that I needed for two pillows! Duh, but that's ok. I have plans for the extra material.

Firmly wrap the piece of fabric around the pillow to determine placement and size. Fold over a generous amount 2-4" of fabric in center. This will become the front (or back if you wish) of the pillow. Pin in place. I like the fold on the front where I plan to sew on a decorative button(s).

Place web piece between underside of fabric as close to the edge as possible before ironing. To fuse, per package instructions, cover area to be ironed with damp cloth (I use the thin cotton dish towels), set steam iron to Wool and press for 10 seconds per section. Don't slide the iron. Allow to cool, check bond, repeat if necessary.

I’ve been working on several projects since our move. I’ve taken a few images on some of them, which I posted to my Pinterest page. So since I’ve been doing some DIY projects, I figured why not share them here on my WordPress home. Check here occasionally for my new projects, from distressing new(ish) furniture to older pieces in need of some love. Also, any other repurposing of objects that are just too boring. 😉

Thanks so much for reading and be sure to check out and “Pin” my other projects if they interest you! Comment and if you have suggestions to make my life easier on any projects, I heartily welcome them.

One of my fave indie nail brands, ILNP has two 2016 polish collection you’ll crave. A couple of weeks ago I posted my review on the ILNP Spring Jellies and today I’ll present the Spring Collection. These babies all scream for the sun (which is why I shot most of the photos in the sun!). Let’s take a look!

Available NOW for $72/set or $10ea, except for the one on top left, Mayfield (an Ultra Chrome Flaky!) From top left and down: Mayfield, Daisy Jane, Deja Vu, Apricot Cream, Bulletproof Symphony, Skyscraper and Rolling Hills.

What is your vegan/cruelty free policy?
ILNP absolutely does not test our products on animals nor do we purchase materials from suppliers that do. We make a conscious effort to avoid purchasing animal/insect derived materials like carmine and guanine/pearl, etc. as there are plenty of synthetic alternatives that perform the same or even better.

Are your nail polishes 3-Free?
Yes! All ILNP nail polishes are 3 free! They DO NOT contain Toluene, Formaldehyde, or Dibutyl Phthalate.

What does 3-Free mean?
3-Free means that our nail polishes do not contain Toluene, Formaldehyde, or Dibutyl Phthalate. These 3 ingredients were previously used in most nail polish formulations until recent studies found them to be potentially harmful or irritable to humans. While these chemicals aren’t illegal to use in nail polish (although California law requires special labeling if used), most large brands have already moved to 3-Free formulas at the urge of educated consumers as well as organizations that campaign for safe cosmetics.”

Before first treatment, my heels were cracking and peeling and annoying dry. But they were even worse this winter before using the rest of the CND Spa treatments, my review here a few weeks back. Sorry the photo is a crazy angle. It’s really really hard to photograph the bottom of one’s own foot. LOL

My heel before treatment. This is actually better than normal because I had just started using the CND Spa lotions, scrubs and soaks. For a few years now my heels pretty much stay cracked and peeling. Ugh!

And after first treatment! No editing but I probably should have gotten someone else to take the photo with my big girl camera, my Canon DSLR, instead of with my smartphone. But I couldn’t hold the giant camera and take a photo of the bottom of my foot. 😉

Immediately after first treatment using the Cucumber Heel Therapy and the Callus Smoother. I'd imagine by the next treatment they should be smooth as silk. I tried the nylon test and no snaggies!

Conclusion: I am highly satisfied with how immediate the smoothing results. I have always been on the hunt for a good and permanent heel exfoliating solution. I’ve tried DIY concoctions but they smell funky sometimes. I would highly recommend if your salon or spa doesn’t have this treatment, just ask, plead even! SquareHue Adventure Collection takes us to Skydive Interlaken!

Diving right into the April polish subscription box from SquareHue, the moment I opened it I was out of breath! The April Adventure Collection brings us Skydive Interlaken. Three finishes, three knockout shades. Let’s suit up and take a look!

Eye popping shades for April! From Left, Monch...an eye-searing matte yellow. Eiger...a pink duochrome gloss (I'd consider it more of a pink with flashes of blue). And a glitter within a purple crelly, Jungfrau.

Monch is so brilliant, not even the sun can compete with this shade. Wear it matte or shine it up even more with a topcoat. I don’t know why but yellow this shade screams for black! So I had fun with some dots and dry marble.

Monch in 2 coats. I read that some folks had some streaking and stringy formula issues. I had NO issues at all. Dried fast and very matte and I didn't even need a 3rd coat.

Eiger is a super glossy pink with flashes of blue shimmer. I don’t seem to get a duochrome effect, but it’s sure gorgeous!

It took 3 thin coats and was easy to apply. I love pinks like this with that hint of shimmer.

Last but no way least, a super surprise this month is a pale purple crelly/glitter, Jungfrau. Hey, did you know that Jungfrau is a group of mountain peaks in Switzerland? Me neither. I really must get out more! lol

Jungfrau in 3 easy coats gives you great depth and dimension.

Conclusion. I read a couple mini reviews and a couple of reviewers had a couple of problems with Jungfrau and Monch. I had 0 problems, 0 defects! the Eiger took a bit longer to dry but the glossiness is worth it. Jungfrau is exactly how I like my crelly/glitters. And Monch, well. She’s a standout as far as yellow polishes are concerned. I’m super pleased!
