What is your vegan/cruelty free policy?
ILNP absolutely does not test our products on animals nor do we purchase materials from suppliers that do. We make a conscious effort to avoid purchasing animal/insect derived materials like carmine and guanine/pearl, etc. as there are plenty of synthetic alternatives that perform the same or even better.

Are your nail polishes 3-Free?
Yes! All ILNP nail polishes are 3 free! They DO NOT contain Toluene, Formaldehyde, or Dibutyl Phthalate.

What does 3-Free mean?
3-Free means that our nail polishes do not contain Toluene, Formaldehyde, or Dibutyl Phthalate. These 3 ingredients were previously used in most nail polish formulations until recent studies found them to be potentially harmful or irritable to humans. While these chemicals aren’t illegal to use in nail polish (although California law requires special labeling if used), most large brands have already moved to 3-Free formulas at the urge of educated consumers as well as organizations that campaign for safe cosmetics.”

Desert Tears ~for a great cause~ by Emerald & Ash

When Ashley from Emerald & Ash contacted me about swatching this new polish and described the great cause associated with “Desert Tears”, I told her YES right away! First, here is a swatch, then I’ll give you the background info!

Desert Tears has an extraordinary formulas that make you just gasp as you apply it! 2 coats, perfect consistency and glossy! I was sort of expecting a bit of grit, but it's super smooth, fast drying and shiny! A perfect sandy beige nude and even on my winter weary complexion, it doesn't wash me out. That is a fab nude in my book!

That is a fab nude in my book!

• And oh by the way, the release date is Friday March 6th at 5pm MST.

Quoting Ashley, “The reason this is such a special polish for both Nate and I is because it was created to help our amazing and dear friend Mark. Mark will be walking across the Sahara Desert in April as a part of The Marathon Des Sables, which is a 6 day endurance race. He’s doing this in partnership with Walking with the Wounded as a way to raise money and awareness for wounded vets. This isn’t his first first grueling trek as he was partnered with Walking with the Wounded, winter of 2013, in a race across Antarctica to reach the South Pole.”

Desert Tears may be an office friendly neutral but I totally see me wearing this on my fingers and toes at the beach! I mean, it's the color of sand, with little micro holo shimmers and specs of teal blue. LOVE it!

#‎marksdeserttears.  @emeraldandash  Shout out to Mark Wise who leaves for the Sahara Desert 156 mile foot race, Marathon Des Sables April 1, with the official start of the race on April 6th. This sandy desert mani I used Desert Tears from Emerald & Ash. Mark’s charity of choice is the Bob Woodruff Foundation. The Woodruff Foundation’s mission is to ensure injured veterans and their families are thriving long after they return home by funding innovative programs in communities where veterans, their families and caregivers live and work. Sunset shades used are Sally Hansen Mellow Yellow, Zoya Wendy and Ling. Palm Trees are water decals from Born Pretty Store.

Mark’s Remarks (pun intended):

Nate and Ashley of Emerald & Ash have long been friends of a participant in the upcoming Marathon des Sables (MdS). This race is a challenging 150 mile foot race across parts of the Sahara completed in 5 days of running. Participants carry all of their own equipment and food with the exception of water being provided every 5-10 miles.”

Their friend, Mark Wise, is taking on this challenge as a representative of the US military wounded veteran community. Mark was wounded in Afghanistan in October 2009 by an IED, while losing his soldier and friend Pfc. Devin Michel. Mark has made it his mission to continue to support other veterans through advocacy, public speaking, and completing various challenges to demonstrate the capabilities of wounded veterans and disabled persons following their life changing events.

This year Mark will complete the MdS with a team of British wounded service members, all running independently, but united as a team in supporting charitable causes for veterans. We at Emerald & Ash are supporting Mark’s fundraising effort by donating 50% of all Desert Tears polish sales to the Bob Woodruff Foundation.

The Woodruff Foundation’s mission is to ensure injured veterans and their families are thriving long after they return home by funding innovative programs in communities where veterans, their families and caregivers live and work.

If interesting in donating directly to Mark’s MdS race efforts, please visit the link below and make sure to include a note (per Mark’s request) stating you found his efforts through our page.

http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/team/MarkWise

Mark further explains, “Throughout my journey of injury, recovery, and advocacy I have been blessed to have Nate and Ashley as close personal friends. They have always been giving in their time, thoughts, and energy. Veterans returning from conflict today are all in need of similar friends and family to care for them and help them continue to grow as an individual and friend. Thank you both again for your friendship.”

About Desert Tears from Ashley:

“Desert Tears came about when we asked Mark if we could help him fundraise by creating a polish for his adventure. When offered to pick a color he joked that it should be sand colored for all of the sand he’ll be looking at. He went on to joke that, no, maybe it should be water colored because that’s all he’ll be thinking about wanting. Thus a polish idea was born. Mark humorously and aptly named the polish Desert Tears.”

Desert Tears is a sandy taupe crelly-ish base with scattered holo. It’s filled with flecks of bright blue micro flakes and a touch of blue shimmer. Depending on the light the color can pull a true sand color, a taupe and even a greige. Perfect in 2-3 coats depending on your application. I applied two quick drying coats!

Virago’s Hollywood Glamour collection and swatches!

When I chatted with indie polish brand Virago Varnish‘s owner/creator, Adrienne about her upcoming collection, I kept getting more and more excited. One, because her formulas and colors are awesome. Two, I knew ahead of time the glitters in this set would be beyond belief. I was right! I will add to that and echo her excitement that one of the glitters in the set came with an honor every indie polish maker dreams about. She says, “Virago is excited to announce this stunning lacquer Radiance. It will be gifted at GBK’s Celebrity Gift Lounge honoring the 2015 MTV Movie Awards Nominees and Presenters!” How cool is that?! I will start there after I show you the bottles! 🙂

4 fab glitter polishes. On top is Radiance and from L-R: Stellar, Allure and Glamorous.

Radiance!

I shot all the glitter polishes in full sun (and thank you Sun for appearing yesterday when I shot these!). Just for fun I did a gradient over a pale blue on the accent nail. This baby sure shines!

Allure!

Who can resist a polish like Allure? Seriously smooth, like Glamorous and although no topcoat is require over these two coats, you could use that if you're wanting to do stamping over this GORGEOUS holo glitter. I didn't want to take it off!

This mani is Shamrockin’ using shades from Cult Cosmetics!

St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner and what better way to celebrate than with a bit ‘o the Irish feel than with a Shamrockin’ mani?! Now, I have to admit, I don’t have a drop of Irish in me. Not that I know of. But most of us have grown up celebrating the day anyway. I did some simple nail art using a dotting tool for some rudimentary shamrocks. I used a fine lining brush for the rainbow and added a few dots of gold to complete the look. No blarney, I did it in 15 minutes! Let’s take a look.

The mani at the end of the rainbow! Here is a cute nail art idea for you for your St. Patrick's Day mani. I used 2 coats of that pale minty green Venice Beach, 2 coats of Palos Verde and the gold accents I used the gold micro glitter bomb polish (not a glitter topper, a polish, called Whiskey A Go Go by Cult Cosmetics.

A simple Mardi Gras inspired mani with 3 ILNP Ultra Chrome Flakies!

Actually, although I am a day late for the actual Mardi Gras day, folks in New Orleans and most likely beyond are still celebrating. So I thought I’d share with you my super simple Mardi Gras nails using ILNP’s Ultra Chrome Flakies. Of course the three mainstay colors of MG are purple, gold and green. Granted, Mardi Gras is all about celebrating, excess, thinking outside the box and blingy overkill in fashion. But after all that preparation, a simple nail art that still delivers the shine and looks amazing is just the ticket!

Well, I may be a day late and a dollar short, since the true Mardi Gras was technically yesterday. But folks are still celebrating, you can bet on it! I used three MG shaded flakies from the Ultra Chrome Flakies from ILNP. The green one is Open Fields, the gold is Rapture and the purple is Metropolis. All are available in the ILNP.COM store! The accent nail used all three over black. 2 coats on the others over a bare nail, followed by a clear topcoat.

I’m finally getting caught up with my blog posts after a short hiatus. I still posted while on vacation in Texas but boy did the work pile up for me while I was gone! It’s my pleasure to show you the February 2015 box from SquareHue. I’m loving this Decades Collection boxes so far. This box brings us to the 1910s, with Tunic 1910, Kewpies 1912 and War Crinoline 1915. The War Crinoline style was the thing and Kewpie dolls came from the creative mind of Rose O’Neil. Kewpie dolls, that little naked, cherub faced baby doll made it’s way onto the scene in comic strips in 1909. Eventually the dolls would be coveted by little children everywhere, usually found as small prizes at carnivals and boardwalks. I have a small collection packed away somewhere. Not that I’m that old, but my mom started me collecting them as antiques. And the popular tunic style dress was all the rage during the Great War. More of a tubular shape dress, they seemed to create an illusion of whispier figures, and less pronounced curviness of the previous decades of fashion. It was also a way to cut back the extravagant dressing which helped the war effort. Enough of the history lesson and onto the polishes!

Tunic is a gorgeous color. It’s a soft peach creme and great on just about every skin tone.

Tunic is a gorgeous peach creme, that although I love the color and the outcome, it took 4 surprisingly sheer coats to get here. Well worth it though!

Kewpie is that soft pink that goes great any time of year. I wasn’t sure with my pale winter skin how it would look, but I think it looks pretty nice!

Kewpie was nearly as sheer at Tunic, but this only took 3 coats. I love this kind of gently pink.

Keeping with the wartime theme, War Crinoline is a very versatile green, on the cool side and goes perfectly with the other shades in this ensemble.

Here is War Crinoline, a cool army green creme. 2 smooth coats, the best formula of this trio. I used both Kewpie and Tunic on the accent nail.

Chloe & Bella, 4 more indie stunners you MUST have!

I’m telling you, this has been a fabulous swatching week for me and every polish I’ve used have been out of this world. I especially love the care and attention to detail my indie girls put into their fabulous products. Chloe & Bella polishes are amazing and these four I have to share with you speak for themselves. So I will just load you up with photos, starting now!

From left to right: Jasper, Dragon's Skin, Tiger's Eye and Peacock. All are perfection!

Wet your appetite? Here we go! Starting with Dragon’s Skin! It’s a gorgeous multi colored metallic flakie polish, and be sure to check out it’s sister polish Dragon’s Breath!

Dragon's Skin is the second in a pair of chrome flakie polishes from Chloe & Bella. Gorgeous flakies in a clear base can be used alone 2-3 coats (I used 2) or over a base color like I did here. I used Chloe & Bella's black creme, Black Out, also available on the web site!

Dragon's Skin is described as, "an astonishingly gorgeous nail polish that shifts through green to gold to copper, and contains an electrifying platinum colored sparkle. This is not a glitter polish! Dragon's Skin is colored by chameleon flakes and infused with super-shiny silver covered flakes that give it a shine that will knock your socks off!" Color: Green/Copper/Gold with platinum/silver sparks. Texture: Dragon's Skin will dry completely smooth on the nail. Coverage: Dragon's Skin has light coverage with one coat, and full coverage with two coats.

Next up are three stunning multichrome polishes (see descriptions in the photos), Jasper, Tiger’s Eye and Peacock!

Jasper is a lovely multichromatic polish and the formula is FABULOUS! Shimmery Color shifts from bronze to wine, to green, gold and probably even more! I used only one coat, but I think they suggest 1-2 depending on your technique.

Jasper, how I love thee! This multichrome shimmery color shifter is total genius!

Tiger's Eye is another huge hit with me, not only is the formula amazing, but the color shifts in this gem are mesmerizing. From bronze to forest green, gold to garnet and beyond. I tried to mimic the effect of the gem Tiger's Eye on my accent nail. I used to have a ring with one in it but I couldn't find it. :-( Sad face, so sad. LOL

Tiger's Eye is the same great formula as the other two multichrome shimmers. So amazing!

Oh my goodness, get this one! You can't stop staring at your nails, seriously. I used a few pieces of peacock feathers on my accent nail.

Peacock is described as, "Peacock is a gorgeous multichrome that features flashes of green, blue, and violet. Depending on the light source and viewing angle, this polish appears completely different! Texture: Peaccok will dry smooth on the nail. Coverage: Peacock  has medium coverage with one coat, and full coverage with three coats.  We recommend using a black base coat because it brings out the various flashes of color." The formula is supreme!
