Chloe & Bella 3-Part Series! Part I

Indie polish makers are an awesome kind of special people. Number one, they are so creative out the wazoo…and number two, they inspire us as nail bloggers and shoppers. I recently discovered Chloe & Bella via some Instagram posts by a phenominal blogger, Kirby, “The Mercurial Magpie”. Kirby is the kind of blogger we all aspire to be. Honest, talented and oh so blessed. When she’s impressed with a polish, my ears perk up!

Barbara is the owner/creator of Chloe & Bella and I received nine polishes to swatch and review. Of course when I open my swatch mail I immediately check my bottles and open each one to make sure they are okay. I could tell these were going to be great formulas even before they went on the nail. The first three I’ll be posting today are:

Christmas in July with Evergreen, Crimson and Snow.

Christmas in July with Evergreen, Crimson and Snow.

I love how these three remind me of Christmas! I know, it’s the end of July, but I figured you might want to shop early 😉 Here is a swatch of gorgeous Evergreen. Barbara describes Evergreen like this. “Evergreen is a cool green duochrome with a bright shift between green and silver. Thrown in for good measure is a healthy heaping of shimmering white flakies.  The flakies add just a touch of sparkle when hit with direct lighting.” I used one coat over a blackened deep green and it’s stunning! I just wanted to be different, and she suggests using it over black to bring out the strongest flashes of color. Either way, you’ll be impressed with this one. It’s sheer in one coat and suggested to use three coats when used on it’s own with no undies. The formula is smooth and perfect. No flooding.

I'm not the best artist, but I try. What could be simpler than an evergreen twig?!

I’m not the best artist, but I try. What could be simpler than an evergreen twig?!

Next we have Crimson. Such a perfect, classy, true red!

To me, this is perfect for a Christmas red. It's glossy too!

To me, this is perfect for a Christmas red. It’s glossy too!

Barbara describes Crimson like this. “Crimson is the classic, romantic, deep red that evokes passion and love…a true red…a semi-sheer at one coat (almost a hot pink) and opaque (deep gorgeous red) at two coats.” I would have to say this glossy sexy red dress red is almost jelly like in texture. Very pigmented for  a jelly though! Love this perfect red.

And the last for this post (stay tuned I have six more to go!), Snow. Now, if you live in a part if the country where you’re dreaming of the white stuff, this may cool you off!

Snow may be used alone or a coat over white. I managed one coat over white undies, but my pinky nail has three coats alone over the bare nail. You can better see this way that it is a winter white and oh so shimmery. Snow may be used alone or a coat over white.

Barbara describes Snow like this. “Snow is a light and feminine, slightly off-white, cream polish. Tons of micro small white, opalescent, and rainbow pearl glitters create that same shimmer that you see in snow on a sunny day.” On my pinky you can see I used three coats on the bare nail, where I used one coat over single white undies for a more pronounced look. It’s medium coverage, a bit thicker than the other two. It’s a slightly off-white shimmery cream. Sort of winter white I’d say!

Grabbing a quote from Barbara’s “about” page on her site, she says this about her inspiration behind the business, “Nail polish is an obsession that started a little later in life for me than it does for most ladies, but that does not make the obsession any less heartfelt or passionate. Glitter (or ANYTHING sparkly) has always been a huge draw for me from the earliest days of childhood. That draw never lessened as life moved along. One day while surfing the internet, I discovered a new-to-me trend: nail art. Wow…this was something that I could really dig into and enjoy!” I think even polish enthusiasts, bloggers and polish hoarders can relate.

Beach Bum by Super Nails is SO me!

When owner/creator KC, of Super Nails told me she was sending me her beach themed glitter topper, Beach Bum, my heart lept. She said she knew I was a beach girl and it would be perfect for me. She nailed it! I tell everyone I think I have sea water running through my veins and I may even be part mermaid. When I’m around the water I just feel complete. I love blues, aquas, greens and iridescent shimmers and shades. So let’s take a look at a beach bum’s Beach Bum!

Beach Bum is as mermaidy as a glitter topper can get.

Look at this glitter packed beauty. It’s like the inside of a treasure chest!

Lovely blues, aquas, stars and iridescents.

KC describes Beach Bum as ” a Clear polish base with dense tiny holographic and metallic blue, teal, aqua and gold starfishes, and blue circles.”

If you’re going to the beach or just want a fun summery mani, look no further! Ooh, it would be gorgeous over a deep ocean blue for a salty sultry evening look. Yes, I’ll have to try that next time.

These come in two sizes, mini and full.

Imagine it on your tanned tootsies!

So grab yourself a bottle of Beach Bum and head to your own spit of sand. The formula is smooth and loaded…no fishing! Excuse that pun, I couldn’t help myself. 😉

Super Nails Birthstone Collection Pt. 2!

They just keep impressing me! The Birthstone collection by creator/owner of Super Nails has been a delight to swatch for you. As I pulled out the other three KC sent me my brain came up with so many ideas on how to present them to you. Here are August Peridot, September Sapphire and October Opal. Enjoy!

August Peridot is so sparkly and blingy. Sort of a greenish gold!

KC describes August Peridot as “Clear polish base with tiny olivine hexes, green dots, and chartreuse transparent hexes.”

A cool twist on gold!

I used Zoya Logan and a gold underneath. It turned out rather elegant!

One of my faves of the bunch!

Next we have a glorious blue glitter topper in September Sapphire. I will remind you that all the formulas are typical of glitter toppers, a bit on the thick side but these are very smooth and no stringiness. They are packed and go on very nicely. Using a clear topcoat is recommended.

September Sapphire is stunning!

See how packed this is?!

Gorgeous blue!

KC describes September Sapphire as “Shimmering blue-gold duochrome micro flake polish with blue hex, iridescent hex, and holographic blue glitters.”

And last I give you October Opal. Well, I’m not giving it away today but you can get it in two sizes at the Super Nails store, link below. She carries these in minis and full .50 sizes. I love this mani! I thought it would be fitting to do a watercolor mani with Opal colors.

Love Opal!

Even glorious in the bottle!

Just for fun I wanted you to see how cool this topper is over black. I used Zoya Storm.

You may find a few larger flakies in this so you’ll have to tame with a good clear topcoat. But I topcoat all my glitter manis anyway. I like Gelous for heavier glitters.

Well that’s it for this series. I highly recommend KC’s Birthstone Collection. Have you picked up yours yet?

Gilded Raspberry Smoothie, my delicious custom lacquer from Super Nails!

My first custom polish from Super Nails is exactly what I envisioned. Raspberries, one of my favorite fruits! And I’m always drawn to pinks and gold together. It’s just a stunning combination so when KC told me I could come up with a custom polish, I knew right then what I wanted. She really delivered!

I got to name her. So Gilded Raspberry Smoothie it is! I wish my own smoothie I made for the photo looked more like it.

I got to name her. So Gilded Raspberry Smoothie it is! I wish my own smoothie I made for the photo looked more like it.

Obviously from the photo as you can see my smoothie didn’t have the glorious pink shade as my polish. Maybe if I’d used raspberry sherbet. 😉 This polish had just the right amount of gold flakies I asked for. The results were spot on.

Amazingly opaque.

Amazingly opaque.

As you can see, the gold was just enough to let the beautiful raspberry cream sing. Only one coat! I used Gelous Top Coat to smooth out the finish, although this creation is glossy on it's own.

As it goes with flakey loaded lacquers…say THAT ten times fast, I dare you! Lol there will always be the tiniest bit of bumpiness, so I added Gelous as a top coat. I’m going to hate to take this stunning polish off today but I’ve got more swatching to do. Super opaque in one coat, the formula is slightly thick but easy to apply. Flaky dispersion is perfect! This gilded beauty is a treasure! Here’s a closeup.

I’m not sure how it works with KC’s customs whether she replicates them in mass, or by request. But she has the formula now and if you’d like a bottle of your own, ask her! KC’s indie polish business based in Michigan, is fairly new, 2013, but she knows what she’s doing. She majored in Business and Entrepreneurship in college. Her polish blends are made up fresh to order and she does customs on request. Her polishes are human and environmentally friendly. As she states on her stores web site, “All Super Nails polishes are 5-FREE, vegan, and free of formaldehyde, toluene, dibutyl phthalate (DBP), formaldehyde-resin, camphor, and carmine. So… beautiful nail polish, no cancer, or abused animals = win for everyone!” That’s what we like to hear.

Remember, I soon will be posting the other three Birthstone polishes she sent me, and a glitter topper she knew would be close to my heart and it’s AMAZING! Here is where you can shop for your Super Nail products.

Super Nails Birthstone Collection Pt. 1

This is my first experience swatching for Super Nails. I’m no stranger to glitter toppers. I’ve reviewed plenty. Although I have swatched my share of minis, I truthfully admit I hate trying to hold these lil stinkers with one hand and holding my big ole DSLR camera in the other. It’s tough! No, it’s sometimes painful. But owner KC said most of her sales are her minis and that’s what she likes to advertise. Far be it from me to change her business model. I am telling you, whether you pick up full size or minis, you will love the quality of her polishes.

Prepare yourself and grab some coffee or tea…tons of photos coming right up. I will be reviewing 6 birthstone polishes from, the collection. Three in this post and three in the next. In between I’ll delight you with a gorgeous custom KC created for me for which I’m over the moon about! First up is April Diamond.

April Diamond is spelled BLING!

April Diamond is spelled BLING!

Great even if you weren't born in April!

Great even if you weren’t born in April!

KC describes April Diamond as “Clear polish base with dense silver metallic glitters of all sizes. Would be a great glitter topper for use in a glitter gradient manicure, or simply on top of any color.”

Diamonds really are a girl's best friend!

This glitter topper is loaded, seriously loaded! And it goes on smooth, never clumpy or stringy.

Next is June Pearl. So soft and delicate. This will be a great topper for some Christmas mani because it reminds me of snow!

June Pearl is so elegant.

Pearls may be old school but that's what makes them so special.

Again, the formula was quite pleasing. Not quite as densely packed as Diamond, but I found it perfect for dispersion because I’m planning a great lil winter scene when it turns cold again!

Gorgeous placed over any base shade.

As you can see in this macro shot, the delicate matte pearl glitters are so soft looking. A great glitter if you want to wear it to the office without blinding your boss!

And the last of the three for today’s post, July Ruby! Remember to come back in a couple of days for the follow up with the other three I’m reviewing: August Peridot, September Sapphire and October Opal.

July Ruby is a true Ruby red. A perfect red!

July Ruby is a true Ruby red. A perfect red!

Makes me wish I was born in July, but I was born in January (Garnet). Close!

Makes me wish I was born in July, but I was born in January (Garnet). Close and I can’t wait to see what my birthstone polish will look like!

There were so many ways I could have swatched this beauty for you. Even with the mini size bottle, the size of the glitters were not difficult to apply. I decided on this holo filled blue, sort of patriotic, called Dream, by Zoya for my base coat.

This will be great to use for your holiday nail art as well!

KC describes July Ruby as “Clear polish base with holographic and metallic red glitters, and tiny hexes.”

July Ruby is simply gorgeous. Imagine it in a jelly sandwich!

That’s it for today. I should have the other toppers swatched in a couple of days.

I’ve found that using little squares of felt does an amazing job and way better than cotton balls. I had no problem removing any of these glitters at all. But, back to Super Nails!

Here is the backstory KC sent me about why she chose to produce birthstone polishes! “Birthstone polishes! I used to manage a bead and jewelry shop, so birthstones were a very common material for me to work with. I wanted to put both of my hobbies (of making jewelry and making nail polish) together, by creating gemstone inspired nail polishes. I began with the basic and most popular gemstones, because everyone has a birthday!”

Makes sense to me. 🙂 One would think you’d see more birthstone polishes out there dedicated to the gem of your month. This is a great idea and would make great birthday gifts for those polish lovin’ gals in your life.

A couple Dollish Polishes revisited!

A few months ago I got lucky and won a giveaway sponsored by Gloss48 and Accio Lacquer. I won three full size bottles of gorgeousness by Dollish Polish. I noticed they are going to be available for purchase tomorrow, July 24th. Since they are going to be available, I thought I’d remind you how gorgeous these girls are! I painted two of them in this mani. First photo indoors…

Easy to sparkle even indoors!

Ooh lala...très chic c'est magnifique!

Ooh lala…très chic c’est magnifique!

Très Chic! Great formula, brushes and I LOVE these square bottles. This aquamarine crelly has black hexes, large and medium Fuscia rounds, teal hexes and squares, teal glitters small black matte glitters. I used two coats here. I believe now this includes donut glitters too!

And of course gorgeous out in the sunshine!

Spectacular!

Spectacular!

Both formulas are perfection. I love how opaque and smooth Wild Orchid is on the nail.

Wild Orchid, a force of nature.

Wild Orchid, a force of nature.

Wild Orchid! This formula was astounding! I mean seriously, I had no doubts and I was so excited to see the holographic shimmer. It’s scattered but just on the cusp of being linear. But the orchid shade would be overtaken I think with too much holo, so I’m glad they left this one as is. One coat will do, but why not two?
